Facebook will be having another live event today, which starts at 1 p.m. EST (10 a.m. PST). It is becoming widely expected that Facebook will announce a new web based email service.

A Facebook email service could take one of two forms:
1) An email service build off the “fb.com” domain
Last week, Facebook acquired the FB.com domain for an undisclosed amount from MarkMonitor. This was seen as a possible move to build an email platform upon the fb.com domain – so your email would be “email@fb.com”.
2) An email service built on the existing “facebook.com” domain
This would be a more realistic move in my opinion since Facebook.com email addresses would help build the “Facebook” brand, and it’s a name that 500 million users are already very used to.
