Wondering how to choose your website keywords?

Did you know the advent of Hummingbird, Google’s newest algorithm overhaul, has changed the face of SEO? Before Google released it, keyword stuffing was still a popular technique. A lot’s changed since then.

Google has been working to combat black hat techniques, rolling out 500 to 600 algorithm updates a year. Most of those updates are small tweaks, but a few, like RankBrain, will change the landscape for years to come. With it, Google began AI to their algorithm recipe.

How does this affect you?

In all sorts of ways. The primary being your approach to keywords needs to change. With Hummingbird, Google now understands the context of keywords and links. They even understand topics.

Finding a Niche Topic

If your old approach began with you heading to Google Keyword Planner (GKP), throw it out. GKP focuses all its efforts on a single keyword, and build out from there. We’re going to expand your horizons.

Let’s say, you own an online business which sells primarily hiking boots. You head on over to GKP to see if you can find any ideas for target keywords. When you get there, you plug in the word hiking boots and come up with the following:

• Girls’ hiking boots
• Men’s hiking boots
• Brown hiking boots size 11
• Waterproof hiking boots
• And so on

Notice how each of the above builds upon the core keyword “hiking boot?” That’s the way GKP functions. But you don’t have to be limited by that narrow-minded thinking.

Yes, you’re building content to get more customers, but that’s a process. Marketing is a process. The buyer’s journey is a process.

A large part of that requires building trust. You want potential customers to read one article. Then you want them to come back and read another and another.

That’s the way you build brand recognition. It’s also the way you build trust and set yourself as an authority in your field. When you do that, customers will be flocking to you.

The best way to do that is to think non-linearly. This is where we lowly humans have the advantage over our silicon counterparts. Take a look at the list of keywords we came up with when we saw hiking boots:

• Mountain climbing
• Camping Trips
• Athletes foot
• Hiking backpacks
• And so on

We can still take these and plug these into GKP to come up with a variety of longer keywords. Even though these keywords are only indirectly related to the wares you sell, they’re directly relevant to the needs of your audience. That’s why they’ll read them.

The more you understand your audience, the better you’ll be discovering appropriate topics and keywords. Think beyond what you sell. Think about what your potential customers want.

Research Tools for Website Keywords

Please don’t think we’re suggesting you avoid using the fantastic tools that are available. No. Take advantage of those powerful resources, but don’t rely on them alone. First, take a look at the big picture.

Who is your audience? Narrow that down with laser precision. The more you know about them, the easier it’ll be to build content they actually want.

That builds trust and authority, as well as leads to higher conversions. In turn, you receive a bigger paycheck. Everyone wins.

Are there holes in your competitors’ content? If you don’t know what kind of content your competitors are dishing out, it’s time to learn. With services like those offered by Semrush, you can see the type of content your competitors are pushing out.

Then you can cheat. Look for areas they haven’t covered but are still relevant to your subject. You can also pick a few of their most popular posts and steal their core keywords.

After you’ve done that, it’s time to skip over and utilize some of those keyword research tools. Here’s our list of favorites:

• Microsoft Bing Ads Intelligence

With these tools, you can discover longer keyword phrases like those listed for GKP in the previous section. You can also discover a variety of metrics:

• Average monthly searches
• Amount of competition
• Number of clicks
• Number of Impressions
• Average cost per click
• And so on

Lesser Known Strategies

Here are a few strategies the pros use to help them through the process. Remember, the less linear your thinking, the more keywords and topics you’ll come up with.

Forums and boards

There’s no better place to start your audience research than the places they hang out. Forums and boards are where they go to complain, get advice, and share solutions. If you want to understand your audience read what they’re saying.

• Quora
• Reddit

They’ll tell you exactly what they want to read about. The above are two popular sites outside your typical social media channels.

Idea Generators

These sites are idea generators. Punch in your subject, and the site will return some inventive alternative topics and keywords.

• Answer The Public
• UberSuggest
• ScrapeBox
• Google Trends
• Keyword Tool

You can also use the following sites to discover related topics and keywords. In Wikipedia, type in the subject. Then look at the content listed by section.

For the Google Search Results, you’ll need to punch your query into Google. After you reach the search engine results page, scroll all the way to the bottom. What you’ll find is a section titled “Searches related to” your topic.

What’s Next?

Once you get the hang of this new approach to finding website keywords, you’ll never go back. Start with your audience and think non-linearly. It’ll revolutionize your process.

I can’t really decide is the Brett Favre story line or the free Whataburger is my favorite. I love watching the circus that unfolds around Brett Favre – that’s entertaining enough as it is. But I remember eating at a Whataburger once in Houston and man… just one burger made me feel ridiculously stuffed all day long!

Is Google controlling the search results subjective according to Government influence and dictation from the very highest office in the land – The White House?

The video below called The Obama Deception, although playing here in its entirety – nearly 2 hours long – the video was reportedly removed from Youtube on Friday. Not only was the video no longer found in the search results, or anywhere else on Youtube, but the search term the obama deception was also nowhere to be found, except perhaps on page 50 or greater in Google.

Here is what Prison Planet is reporting about the potential that Google is manipulating search results according to the United States government’s direction:

As we reported Friday, the term ‘Obama Deception’ had surged to number one on the Google trends rankings, above Lindsay Lohan, the BP Oil Spill or the death of George Steinbrenner. What’s more, the viewcount grew by nearly 100,000 in that same single day, demonstrating the accelerated attention the film has been receiving.

Then suddenly the version of the documentary that had 6.5 million views and was linked to from all over the Internet was deleted, presumably by someone at YouTube or Google who had overriding access to the user account.

Now, the term isn’t even in the top 500 trends –  it doesn’t even register when searching.

As a response Alex Jones asked his readers and listeners to search the term ‘obama deception censored’. Extremely quickly that term also hit the top spot, with links to Prisonplanet and Infowars articles we had written covering the news.

However, that term now also no longer registers on Google trends.

Is Google in the government’s back pocket?

This raises a very interesting question and that is, is Google in the back pocket of the government? Google is far and beyond the #1 search engine globally. And the search data would obviously be highly influential in government research (CIA, FBI, terror threats, etc…).

But is it possible that Google will alter the search results if something is showing that could be potentially damaging to the Obama administration?

Google ultimately has control over their own search engine. And they could, I suppose, control whatever they wanted since they own the search property. However, if Google begins altering the search results then the quality and reputation of Google will start to decline and ultimately, in an extreme case, Google’s relevance would be irrelevant.

Craiglist, Crag list, Craigs list… Can we not spell, people?

This is absolutely driving me crazy today. On Google Trends – the service that tracks what’s popular and what people are searching for the most right now – Craigslist is a trending topic. In fact, it’s been trending for about the last 3 hours.

However, people are spelling the site Craigslist in all sorts of weird and bizarre ways.

For example – in the top 7 currently trending phrases we have 3 of them directly relating to Craigslist, but check out how they are spelled:

1)  craiglist

2)  craigs list

7)  cragslist

So that’s #1, #2, and #7 out of the top 20 keyword phrases – all related to Craigslist, but not a single one of them spelled properly.

That’s just unbelievable to me!

And even more unbelievable is that in order for those phrases to achieve top 10 rankings in Google Trends, then a massive global audience of people are spelling these words incorrectly.

Why is Craigslist suddenly so popular?

Ok – it’s not like Craigslist hasn’t always been popular, but for some reason it is starting to dominate the top 10 Google Trends list, and that doesn’t happen unless there is a specific cause pushing it.

One of the main reasons I believe that Craigslist is hot on everyone’s mind right now is because they are about to be busted for facilitating prostitution in the United States – a place where prostitution is illegal!

But also, from what I’ve read quickly, Craigslist was used recently by the Gambino family to promote and sell off underage (some said to be 15 years old) prostitutions.

Louisiana Lottery in the news

March’s draw-style game winnings included two Lotto jackpots totaling $975,000, one Easy 5 jackpot worth $143,702, one “match-5” Powerball prize of $200,000 and seven Powerball prizes of $10,000 each. Pick 3 prizes totaled $1,680,590 and Pick 4 prizes totaled $1,143,800.

Easy 5 prizes totaled $315,076 with an additional $229,169 won in ezmatch prizes. For an additional $1, players can add ezmatch to their Easy 5 ticket for the chance to win up to $250 instantly.

Louisiana Lottery, The Louisiana Lottery paid out more than $6.6 million in January from draw-style games, while players buying scratch-off tickets collected $6.1 million, lottery officials said today.

The lottery payout in January was down from the $14.1 million in December and the $14.4 million in January 2009.

The Lottery allocates at least 50 percent of sales to fund prizes, while at least 35 percent of sales are transferred to the state treasury to fund the state’s public education. Retailers are paid at least 5 percent in commission, and the Lottery retains less than 10 percent of sales to operate.

Let me make a technical correlation here about how far the Internet has come since it’s early days.

You have another garbage website like campus gossip that is set to do anything but good to those who visit it and use it.

I mean, do you really want to be putting half naked pictures of yourself on the Internet these days?

And especially if you’re in college.

Don’t you think that those images can very easily be found when your future employer decides to turn to Google to research you?

Anyway, a reflection of how bad websites like campus gossip are, just take a look at the campus gossip Facebook Fan Page.

Campus gossip has been on the web since 2007 and they only have 904 fans.

Really….?

That’s like 3 years online, and the Fan Page only have 904 fans.

Let me tell you people, that is a reflection of a terrible website, and a terrible online concept.

Anyway, if you are in college and have any aspirations to do something worth-while when you get out of college….

Stay away from campus gossip.

The images you put up there, and things you say, can very easily come back to haunt you in a lot of different ways.

10 Year Old Boy

The planned take down of the Texas Stadium happened today and a 10 year old boy was the one that threw the switch to set off the explosions.

One flick of a switch, and that’s all it took to bring down the enormous Texas Stadium were the Dallas Cowboys used to play.

Cowboy Stadium was replaced with a brand new, state of the art stadium located in Arlington, Texas.

The Cowboys had their opening season just this past year in the new Cowboy Stadium.

Of course, to make the whole spectacle a bit more fun, the construction workers went on ahead to invite interested members of the public to watch on as they reduced the well-known landmark to rubble.

Mark Buehrle Play (Amazing Video)

Mark Buehrle of the Chicago Whitesox made an amazing play during their game against the Cleveland Indians.

Best of all, this was only the second day of the season and I think we’ve already got our play of year locked in.

The play happened when Mark Buehrle got hit with a line drive from the batter, which put the ball in play. Then, Buehrle ran over toward the baseline and with one hand, backhand tossed the ball to the first basemen for the out.

Tri Energy is at the heart of a ponzi scheme that is now ripping a family apart.

The Tri Energy scam is part of a $50 million ponzi scheme that attempted to extract investment money from mostly churchgoers and single moms. But not only has the Tri Energy scam destroyed innocent victims of their ponzi scheme, it has caused a daughter to turn her mother into the authorities.

A woman who’s mother was an active member of this ponzi scheme, could not sit by idle while her mother destroyed lives with the Tri Energy scam.

So the daughter turned her mother in to authorities.

Clearly, this action would cause a riff in the family and is another example of how greed destroys deep into the inner lives of its victims.

Tri Energy – The Heart of a Ponzi Scheme

Tri Energy is making the news today because it is at the heart of a $50 million dollar ponzi scheme.

A daughter has taking the brave steps of actually turning her mother in for the ponzi scheme that the mother was part of. The daughter just couldn’t sit by and watch her mother scam women with children out of hard earned money.

Tri Energy, Inc. sits right at the heart of this ponzi scheme.  One of two investments involved Tri Energy in the ponzi scheme.

Tri Energy claimed to own four coal mines in Kentucky. The company needed investments to put the mines on line, when huge profits would start pouring in. In reality, there were only two mines, and neither was profitable.

This accounted for $32 million of the scheme.

Anyway, onto the important news about Alex Hall:

Alex Hall, Cleveland Brown linebacker, was traded from the Cleveland to Philadelphia in exchange for Eagles’ cornerback Sheldon Brown and linebacker Chris Gocong.

Along with the deal of sending Alex Hall to Philadelphia, the Eagles got a fourth and fifth round draft pick for the 2010 NFL draft.

Another story coming up out of Philadelphia besides the Alex Hall trade is what will happen with Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb?

There are rumors spreading like wild fire that McNabb will be heading to the Oakland Raiders.

And oh yeah, did I mention that I couldn’t find a single Alex Hall video on YouTube?

Guam Tipping Over – Will Guam Really Tip Over? (Funny Video)

30 Governors, or more, within the United States are receiving threats, some in the forms of letters, from a group calling themselves Guardians of the Free Republics.

FBI Investigators fear the broad call for removing top state officials could inspire others to act out violently.

Subtle threats against dozens of US governors by a Texas-based group called Guardians of the free Republics could be enough to spark violence in a tense and polarized country, the FBI says.

Despite being sentenced to a halfway house for 30 days, Gilbert Arenas has supposedly been losing $250,000 per game based on the dollar amount of his contract.

Suspended Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas was sentenced Friday to spend 30 days in a halfway house in the wake of his conviction on gun charges resulting from a locker-room confrontation with a teammate.

Arenas, who played high school ball at Grant High in the San Fernando Valley,  was also sentenced to 400 hours of community service, which cannot be conducted at basketball clinics, and a $5,000 fine.

This is something that has never been done before in the history of tracking brackets of the NCAA college basketball tournament – otherwise known as March Madness.  But Alex Hermann, a 17 year old kid with Autism, has not yet seen a loss in his NCAA Basketball Tournament bracket that he entered only at CBSSports.com

Through the first two rounds Hermann has predicted every upset and every favorite going through to the Sweet 16. Hopefully after the Sweet 16 the autistic kid with perfect bracket will still be 100% correct with his predictions.

MediaTakeOut.com, the most visited urban website in the world, has somehow managed to gather information while confirming reports of the celebrity singer, Beyonce, of being pregnant. Beyonce Knowles is married to the famous hip hop singer Jay Z and a confirmed source reveals that they are celebrating right now. Both the couple are really happy to finally welcome a new member in the family.

Wikipedia Down – Servers Overheat

The free encyclopedia site Wikipedia went offline today due to servers overheating.  According to Wikipedia sources, the overheating issue began with their European servers and the failure of cooling mechanisms to kick in.  This caused a DNS resolution failure that brought the entire site down.

The problem started at around 11:30am eastern standard time today.

However, you can now visit Wikipedia and everything seems to be back online.

Health Care Vote (CNN Video Debate)
