Spartan failed the test for HTML5, the key factor in testing the performance of any browser. IE is far better than Spartan in HTML5, but surprisingly, FireFox wins in graphics rendering and content spacing test.

It is also reported by a number of news sources that the latest attacks on GitHub were launched by Chinese hackers. The hackers are continuing to evolve and improve their techniques, according to GitHub’s official statement. They are using redirection techniques from two of the most visited pages in China from the China’s search engine Baidu. The first page from where the traffic is being redirected is the New York Time’s Chinese news language pages, whereas the other one is Greatfire.org, an information website which tells about the government censorship in China.

The Wall Street Journal quotes some sources which are now claiming that the attacks are directly coming from the high-level official internet infrastructure within China, which points towards the speculation that the hacking attack is done by government-backed Chinese hackers. Baidu, the Chinese search engine has released a statement, denying the notion that its systems are being used in the GitHub DDos attack.

Scammers will go to great lengths to steal your information, make money or deceitfully advertise. They’ll send phishing emails to steal passwords or unleash viruses on computers to hijack Web browsers. Scamming victims on the Internet doesn’t even have to be that arduous, especially since scammers can rely on your emotions and good intentions to deceive you.

In early 2014, CNN reported on a story about a photo of a smiling 7-year-old girl without hair posing in her cheerleading uniform. The photo was posted to Facebook and asked for “likes” as messages of support and prayers for her to beat cancer. In reality, the picture was almost six years old and never once posted to Facebook. The girl’s family had no clue it was even stolen from their Photobucket account and used for that purpose. The family, along with everyone who liked or shared the picture, were victims of like-farming — acquiring “likes” for fraudulent Facebook photos, posts and pages. Deceptive Facebook posts and pages garnering mass “likes” and shares are direct threats designed to spread a malware virus or collect personal information. Once scammers have your personalized data, such as location or age, they can use it to target a more dangerous attack like identity theft.

Like-Farming

Like-farming works by sharing viral content that’s fallacious and likely to receive hundreds of thousands of “likes” and shares. The more “likes” and shares a page receives, the higher its value and social visibility.

“It’s a way to trick Facebook’s algorithm,” describes CNN. Scott Kleinberg, a Chicago Tribune contributor, calls the liking scam a “sharing trap” — when people are manipulated into liking an emotionally gripping fake post as a scamming technique.

For example, a scammer may create a page dedicated to inspirational quotes and gain a large following. Then the scammer can strip the popular page to spread a virus, phish or advertise. The new page can be used to sell products or it can be sold to a black market website that now has access to your newsfeed. A scammer can also use the page as a way to spam users to click on links to spammy sweepstakes or giveaways. Information you provide by entering a fake contest could then be used for credit card or bank fraud.

Clickjacking

The threat of viral scammers and exploiting the Facebook “like” button hasn’t just recently shocked social networking. In 2010, scammers took advantage of the “like” button’s Javascript to create clickjacking exploits. Clickjacking tricks a user into clicking on a concealed link or revealing confidential information by accessing and performing actions on a hidden page. A user who clicks on the link implemented with the “like” button basically spreads pages virally throughout the site, explains The Guardian. Clickjacking, a browser-based attack, includes targeted links and catchy display text. Attracted to a sensationalized headline, the user will follow the link to a page that entices visitors to “click here!” After clicking on the page, an invisible iframe with a Facebook “like” button launches, and the link spreads. The “like” button embedded on an iframe enables the clickjacking attack to easily go viral as its exposure grows from newsfeed to newsfeed.

Best Practices for Prevention

Awareness is the first step to protect yourself. “Like” and share on Facebook vigilantly. If something sounds too good to be true or is obviously intended to monopolize on your emotions, it’s a red flag (e.g. an unbelievable trip giveaway or a picture of an abused animal at a pet shelter). Observe low-quality posts keenly, and don’t be afraid to report suspicious posts to Facebook as well. Securing your online activity and information with anti-virus security and even identity theft protection also provides extra assurance. Identity theft protection company LifeLock’s Facebook page offers valuable security information, from preventing identity theft consumer fraud to changing passwords because of the Heartbleed bug. Ann Coulter has done quite well for herself as a conservative commentator around the many news networks in this country. But considering her latest social media blunder, she may want to stick to the news and lay off the social media quips.

Coulter became the target of some serious ridicule when she responded to a social media campaign headed by Michelle Obama with a picture of her holding a piece of paper that read #BringBackOurCountry. The original campaign called for the return of nearly 300 kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls via the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls, a prominent story that has received a great deal of media attention.

Coulter’s insensitive response caught the attention of some Twitter vigilantes and an image began circling of Ann Coulter with a blank piece of paper, urging people to mock the right-wing correspondent in the funniest way possible. And Twitter did not disappoint. In a few short minutes, a number of hilarious images were popping up of Coulter complimenting Michael Sam’s relationship or inviting the country to #BringBack3DDoritoes.

Because most people are so skilled at the art of meme-making nowadays, this image continued to circle around the Internet. Some images showed Coulter holding pictures of animals playing instruments (or worse) but many took the opportunity to make her say out of character things. Here are some of the other gems: #BringBackMySoul, Please Pay Attention to Me, #BringBackTraditionalWhiteAmerica, and even “I’m a miserable person who peddles hate to make money off dumb Republicans.” All right, that last one got a little dark.

But the mockery at Coulter’s expense seemed to mostly be lighthearted. The Twitter Universe merely seemed like they wanted to point out that not everything has to be a stand.

“This issue allows remote code execution if users visit a malicious website with an affected browser,” Microsoft said. “This would typically occur by an attacker convincing someone to click a link in an email or instant message.”

The bug affects Internet Explorer 6 – 11.

The Vulnerability enables the hackers to gain control of your system and lets them access and manipulate the data which is quite alarming considering the fact that almost 10% of all government systems still run Windows XP and perfectly vulnerable to this attack.  Microsoft has addressed the issue in a security advisory post and says “it is working on a patch” to fix the issue.

It is well known fact that there are three image formats mostly used: Jpeg that is lossy but used frequently since it lends good quality to pictures in low space, GIFs that support transparency and animation with limitations for reproduction of large range of colors, and lastly there is PNG that supports transparency but doesn’t compromise on reproducing the original picture. However, it takes perhaps too much space for ease of users.

In most of the websites, PNGs are used for most of the screenshots. The main reason for using PNGs is that it lends crisp quality to the images that are desired on web pages. However, the main drawback for using the PNG images on web pages is their large size and hence slow loading of pages. That also creates more stress on web servers. In order to solve this issue, TinyPNG comes up with their good features of having the quality of PNG images while having the smaller size also for faster browsing.

A phablet is a device that combines the note-taking ability of a tablet with the communication features of a smart phone. Phablets offer screens of 5″ or larger, which makes reading lengthy documents or watching movies easier. One example is the phablet from Samsung Galaxy Note. The Galaxy Note starting dominating the market in 2011. Their use has grown rapidly, with 2013 coined “the year of the phablet” by some pundits, as Marketing Land points out.

Pros and Cons of Phablets

Phablets are said to combine the best features of both a traditional tablet and a smart phone in one device. Typical benefits cited by phablet owners include:

• Carrying only one device instead of two
• Larger screen than a smart phone, making it easier to watch movies and read ebooks
• Note-taking ability with a stylus, similar to a tablet
• Longer battery life in phablets, compared to both tablets and smart phones, according to Price Panda

However, phablets do have some drawbacks. These include:

• Discomfort during use: The larger screens may make phablets a pleasure to use for reading, gaming or entertainment apps, but they’re uncomfortable to hold for lengthy phone calls.

When I first saw this video shared around the internet, I knew I had to see it.  I wasn’t disappointed.  I can’t believe how this guy made it past all of the critics and doubters, he didn’t listen to them.  Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman is the first deaf offensive player to ever play in the NFL.

At first, when I heard the news Sam Berns had died, I wasn’t sure if I knew who he was.  After browsing news stories I realize that I definitely had heard of him.  Sam Berns suffered from a rare disease that caused him to age extremely fast.  Although he didn’t have much time and was a lot different than most 17 year olds, he lived his life to the fullest.  He made speeches about living a happy life with what you have.  He became close friends with Robert Kraft, the New England Patriots owner, and went to games frequently.

In 2003, PEOPLE profiled Sam, then a kindergartener. “Sam was devastatingly rare: He’s among the estimated 1 in 4 million children born with progeria, an incurable genetic disorder that rapidly transforms them into wizened old men and women.

“Small for his age at 40 in. and weighing only 33 lbs., Sam has already lost all but a few wisps of his blond hair. He often moves stiffly, and because the disease melts away body fat, his skin is as translucent as an octogenarian’s. Most progeria victims die of heart disease or stroke by their early teens. But Sam’s parents, physicians Scott Berns and Leslie Gordon, refuse to accept his fate.”
