Facebook is the most important. How can it maintain its lead? Or not? The most likely maintain its dominant position is to develop and Liberation dazzling new features or remove portions of the service that the world does not like.

I'm confused, I had just gotten used to the "Like" function and now it's "Become a Fan" again. Both have good and bad points, but I just wish facebook could live by the whole "if it ain't broke don't fix it" practicality, and realise that once people build something up, like a fan page, it really sucks when it is all changed by higher powers.
What I like about "Like" is that they were pushing you to say "connect with [page name]" instead of "become a fan of [page name]" which I think is a nice concept. It sounds more casual than "become a fan" yet still professional, unlike "Like my page" which is just a horrible concept. But the thing is, no one is ever going to say that when you are blatantly "Liking" it. Which is just lame.
But "become a fan" has become a bit of a facebook icon and we're used to it, and the concept of "becoming a fan" has become a lot less daunting, and it still sounds better, simpler, more catchy than "Like" or "Connect with"

I think what we have to do is post STUPID or NOT STUPID buttons on idiots at firms like FB. This is ridiculous. I'll make a nice $40,000 investment right now into the company that can develop this.

Facebook is making a huge mistake on this. Yes I know LIKE or DISLIKE might be more popular that the Become a Fan button, but the Genie is out of the bottle and having FB come along and change it after the fact that so many people HAVE Facebook Fan pages is just a great way to sour the reason why so many people used to LIKE Facebook.

Well , I DIS-LIKE the “Like” button.. As a designer, I do marketing designs, and I’m not going to tell people on a post card mailer to “Like” my clients fan page. What is this grade school. ” Like me hee hee”… Asking people to “Become a Fan” sounded more professional. Any one have any ideas on how to sound more professional than “Like Our Fan Page”?

To me it looks like they're just trying to make my private profile more public by turning me into a 'Fan' of everything I said I previously liked on my profile. I don't like it one bit.

As a small business I much preferred the 'Like' button to 'Fans', as it adds a touch of modesty. Askinf people to become your 'fan' I think is slightly ridiculous.

I do hope that Facebook will fix the tweeks with the 'Like' button and return it as soon as possible.

it also means you can't comment on a friend becoming a 'fan' of something – something me and my friends often did….. meanwhile, i can't understand why they've added the option to like/comment when someone adds a new friend. barmy!

I think going back to Fan Pages instead of like was maybe a small temporary glitch. As of this morning “Like” was still there for the Fan Pages I visted.

Thank you Facebook for, yet again, screwing up a good thing! I never would have taken the major effort of building a FAN PAGE if it was ever going to become a LIKE PAGE. That is the most repugnant feature change that they have done to their site to date!!! Even worse is that there was NEVER an open forum to discuss this before they just went and did it, as I wouldn't agreed on it.

My "FAN" pages are still all "LIKE" pages. WTF is FB thinking??? This is the dumbest stunt that they've pulled, as far as changing things. I get the reason behind it, that "Like" buttons in general get clicked on more often than "Fan" pages, but this is a major established feature on their site and can only cause more unneeded confusion.

Yes, HATED the change from fan to like. Give me a break!!!
YES, you can see your fans in a chronological manner; I always could!
When you go to View All Fans, you scroll through and the oldest is "at the bottom" of the heap.
Newest, top, or first seen, so to speak.

Well, it is back and we do not like it. When someone becomes a fan, we send them a coupon code for their next purchase. Now, we cannot. I think "Like" is a cheesy change for this.

I agree with what everyone has said regarding how the "Like" function suddenly takes away your ability to explore who your fans are and determine "why" they joined and what other things they support. I know FB originally created "pages" for businesses/organizations so they could have a beneficial presence of FB. However, the "Like" function takes this all away, and our FB page is suddenly of much less use. Bad move, FB. Or, in orther words: Dislike.
