Coronavirus in New York and other States

As of now, there are more than 92,743 cases in Washington State in U.S. and even more than 1500 deaths.

In Seattle, two men in their 70s and 50s both from Kirkland had died. Symptoms were reported for 27 residents and 25 staff members of the LifeCare long-term care facility.

Florida state confirmed more than 9000 cases.

A woman living in Manhattan who traveled to Iran contracted the virus and is now in home quarantine.

Interventions and Consequences

Stock markets dropped, with an index of global stock setting its largest fall since the 2008 financial crisis. More than $5 trillion wiped off the value of stocks worldwide.

The public and the media overreacted, and Trump administration officials stated that stocks would bounce back because the American economy was strong.

Oil ministers and energy firms canceled the energy conference with the organizers of CERAWeek noting that border health checks were becoming more restrictive and companies had begun barring non-essential travel to protect workers.

It is announced that travelers from countries at high risk of coronavirus would be screened before boarding and arrival.

Flights to Milan with Delta Air Lines Inc are being suspended until May, where there have been most reported cases. Flights will continue to Rome. A similar move was announced by American Airlines Group Inc.

They are making more tests to confirm cases.

Clinical trials of a coronavirus vaccine are supposed to start in six weeks, but the vaccine would likely not be available this season. Moreover, there are 75 000 test kits for coronavirus and the number will radically increase. 3M Co had been contracted to produce an extra 35 million respiratory masks a month. Americans are urged not to buy the masks since they are needed only by healthcare workers.

Trump’s administration has been criticized for downplaying the crisis and being prepared for the disease spread in the United States.

A vast majority of those who contracted the disease will recover, but Americans should be careful.

All in all, since there is only one case of coronavirus in New York, there is no need for panic and the risk remains low.
