Nowadays smartphones are more than just for calling and texting, they play a huge part in ecommerce. Considering the operating system of Android, some very interesting Apps have been developed that aid you while going for shopping. Those of you who don’t want to waste their precious time in shopping malls, Android provides them with perfect Apps for shopping. I would heavily recommend using these Apps in your Smartphone.

EBAY

Perhaps the most popular shopping website in today’s world is eBay. It provides the wide range of items from electronics to clothing. The APP provides you with the searching option and hence you can easily find your desired items. You can compare prices and specifications. The images of products from various angles are provided that helps analyzing the product before buying. You are provided with the option to add the items to your chart and buy them.

AMAZON

This App provides great convenience to search for desired items in store, compare their prices and take their snapshots. The availability of the product in the market is also visible. This App is free for worldwide users for shopping.

GROUPON

Google play store provides this wonderful App that gives you the precious information about the discounted offers. You just sit back and get amazed at this App which searches for wonderful discount offers in shops from 50% to 90% on items of dining, spa and fitness. This App is completely free for all users.

SHOPSVVY

This cool App lets you compare the price of certain items on online shops with similar things nearby your home or on other online stores. This is possible by scanning the bar code of the item with your camera and determining whether the deal is good or not. This App will let you know the price range in which the certain items lie so that you may have idea of cost when you go out for purchasing them from your nearby stores.

ETSY

This App is very much similar to eBay as it searches for plenty of items from millions of online stores. This App is totally free and you have the provision of setting up your own shop and see the response of your customers.

Groupon is actually losing more money than it’s making. And because Groupon’s business model is such that is takes in revenue and accounts for it on their books instantly, but delays paying merchants, some have even called Groupon one big ponzy scheme.

The business model that Groupon employs is, in my opinion, the equivalent of leveraged debt. Basically, in order to keep your business afloat, and growing even, is to have a continual stream in upfront cash. But the payment to the debt is then spread out over time, years even – pay me now, and I’ll pay you back over the next 20 years.

And this Ponzi scheme, or leveraged debt scenario looks even more scary when you consider the fact that in 2010, Groupon’s expenses were two and a half times its gross profits.

And just like the real estate market showed us in 2007 and 2008, it doesn’t matter how big of a company you are, you’re never too big to fail. And if money stops flowing into Groupon, or Groupon’s revenues continue to decline, then that upfront money it relies on heavily will dry up. And no company is too big to fail.

Oh wait… the U.S. Government could come in and bailout Groupon, but something tells me the U.S. economy doesn’t hinge on the success of daily deals.

Here’s a chart from BI showing Groupon’s revenue growth over the past 12 months in Boston. And as you can see, the daily deal site might find that it’s toughest neighborhood to close a deal in might just be Wall Street:

According to DailySocial, the company has moved to purchase DealKeren (operational in Indonesia), its parent company Ensogo (which offers daily deals in Thailand and the Philippines) as well as GoNabit (which operates in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Lebanon, Jordan and Kuwait).

You probably know by now that Google Offers has launched in Portland, Oregon.

Google Offers is the Groupon competitor that Google initiated after Groupon turned down a $6 billion offer from the search engine giant (which is different story all together…).

Anyway, as Google Offers picks up steam in Portland, Oregon, Google is looking to expand next into San Francisco and New York City.

Well apparently in NYC, one particularly aggressive sales person has promised merchants “SEO benefits” if they sign up to run deals with Google Offers.

According BusinessInsider, the Google salesperson promised that merchants who sign up for the program will become “No. 1 in Google.”

This is a huge… exponentially huge… no – no!!!

After hearing about the salesperson and their offer of “SEO benefits”, Google immediately released a statement stating, “Google Offers has no influence whatsoever on the ranking of Google search results.”

Google went on to say that they offer no direct help to merchants in figuring out how to rank #1 in the organic search results.

Now what happened to that salesperson I’m not 100% sure, but my guess is that he or she is no longer on the beat selling Google Offers.

Groupon ran a Super Bowl ad during the second half of the game that has stirred up quite a bit of controversy.

The ad seems to, at face value, insult the Tibet people, culture, and country.

Something that has not gone over well for the daily deals site.

However, according to Groupon CEO Andrew Mason, the intent was to actually raise awareness and bring attention to Groupon’s charity efforts in Tibet.

So to silence the critics, Andrew Mason wrote up a lengthy blog post explaining the reason and purpose behind the commercial.

Without further a’ do – here’s the Groupon Super Bowl commercial:

And here’s Andrew Mason’s blog post in response to the criticism from the commercial:

I’ve been spending the day listening to the negative feedback about our Tibet Super Bowl commercial, and want to take a crack at explaining why we created this campaign.

We take the causes we highlighted extremely seriously – that’s why we created this campaign in partnership with many hallmark community organizations, for whom we’re raising money at SaveTheMoney.org. Groupon’s roots are in social activism – we actually began as cause-based website called The Point, and we continue to use Groupon to support local causes with our G-Team initiative. In our two short years as a business, we’ve already raised millions of dollars for national charities like Donors Choose and Kiva.

When we think about commercials that offend us, we think of those that glorify antisocial behavior – like the scores of Super Bowl ads that are built around the crass objectification of women. Unlike those ads, no one walks away from our commercials taking the causes we highlighted less seriously. Not a single person watched our ad and concluded that it’s cool to kill whales. In fact – and this is part of the reason we ran them – they have the opposite effect.

The firm that conceived the ad, Crispin Porter & Bogusky, strives to draw attention to the cultural tensions created by brands. When they created this Hulu ad, they highlighted the idea that TV rots your brain, making fun of Hulu. Our ads highlight the often trivial nature of stuff on Groupon when juxtaposed against bigger world issues, making fun of Groupon. Why make fun of ourselves? Because it’s different – ads are traditionally about shameless self promotion, and we’ve always strived to have a more honest and respectful conversation with our customers. We would never have run these ads if we thought they trivialized the causes – even if we didn’t take them as seriously as we do, what type of company would go out of their way to be so antagonistic?

We took this approach knowing that, if anything, they would bring more funding and support to the highlighted causes. That’s why organizations like Greenpeace, buildOn, The Tibet Fund, and the Rainforest Action Network all decided to throw their support behind the campaign (read Greenpeace’s blog post here). In fact, the feedback led us to make changes to the end of our ads that further encourage our fundraising. To that point, if the ads affected you, we hope you’ll head over to SaveTheMoney.org and make a donation (which we’ll match) – we’re hoping to raise a lot of money.

The last thing we wanted was to offend our customers – it’s bad business and it’s not where our hearts are.

Google announced today that the Google Places iPhone app is now available for download via iTunes.

Google is apparently left to do only one thing after being shunned by Groupon and local business review site Yelp.com, and that is make their own app.

After Google’s $6 billion offer to Groupon got shot down, the search engine giant has been trying to find a way to get a leverage in the local business market space.

Groupon would’ve been a perfect avenue for Google’s local ambitions, but $6 billion wasn’t enough to make that happen.

Here’s what Google had to say today about the Google Places iPhone app:

We recently released Google Places with Hotpot in Google Maps for Android, and starting now, you can have that same great experience as an iPhone app. We realize the importance of finding places you’ll love while you’re out and about, no matter what mobile device you use. And Places with Hotpot not only helps you find places near where you are, it gives you the best places to go for you by personalizing your search results.

Groupon has just received a $950 million round of funding that will help it move deeper into the International market space.

Based on information from Rob Solomon, Groupon president and COO, Groupon is specifically acquiring three daily sites to expand in India, Isreal, and South Africa.

The first of the three companies is SoSasta, which has only been around for 3 months has deals in 11 Indian cities.

The next acquisition is Grouper, which launched in March, is the largest deals site in Israel.

And finally there’s Twangoo, which serves more South African cities than any of its competitors.

Each of these sites will become Groupon in brand and site design over the coming months. They will serve deals in English in India and South Africa and in Hebrew in Israel.

Groupon is currently available in 40 countries and has over 4,000 employees world-wide.

It was only a mere 3 or so weeks ago that Groupon turned down a $6 billion (USD) offer from search giant Google. The offer was criticized by industry insiders because of the mass duplication of Groupon’s business model by so many other competitors.

It will definitely be interesting to see how this new market of “buying deals” unfolds.

We’ve been hearing from our community for months about how bad they’ve wanted an Android app; we’ve been hard at work creating it, and the day has finally arrived! This launch represents a major step toward our mission of ending “social rut” by opening up Whrrl to a wider set of users.

Twitter is officially launching @EarlyBird today with a special deal for tickets to The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, a film from Walt Disney Pictures. The deal offered through @EarlyBird is this – enter “APPRENTICE” at checkout on Fandago and you’ll receive two tickets for the price of one.

The @EarlyBird profile is designed to offer specials from sponsors that strike deals with Twitter directly. So this isn’t some individual trying to promote a Twitter profile that offers deals – this is coming straight from Twitter, and from direct sponsors that strike deals with Twitter.

According to TechCrunch, “we originally thought that EarlyBird woud be a competitor to deal sites like Groupon and Gilt but it turns out that it’s actually a complimentary channel. Twitter has halso posted an FAQ about the new feature. Interestingly, Twitter says it is “starting with US-wide offers but will explore location-based deals in the future.”
