For most of us, social media has moved into our home, office, purse, pocket, and possibly even bed, if you use your smartphone as an alarm clock. Social media in the living room and on the television is nothing new, but it is about to be taken to a whole new level of inter-connectedness.

People who choose to watch television online have already been exposed to the Facebook “like” button popping up after each episode, learning who else of their online friends like the same shows they do, and much more. However, with more and more internet television sets being sold every year, the rise of the Kinect, XBOX, and other Wi-Fi enabled electronics, social media and television are about to have a whole new type of relationship.

In April 2012, Accenture released the results of a survey they conducted on how people respond to social media appearing on their television while they are viewing a show. Examples of the social media which showed up on the screen included “likes” from Facebook friends who enjoyed the same show, recommendations of similar shows which social networkers typically also enjoyed, coupon codes, contest announcements, options to learn more about promoted products, and much more.

In general, viewer’s expectations were met when asked about the interaction of social media and their television viewing experience. As to be predicted, the most receptive audience was young adults, ages 18-24 years old.

The future of social media and television isn’t set in stone yet, but signs are indicating that the two will intersect and the way television shows are promoted and gain popularity will depend more and more on their ability to be shared across social networks.

Product marketers who learn how to harness the power of advertising their products with the most successful and breakout shows will be pioneers in the field of taking product placement to a new social level of success.

New Lamborghini SUV Urus [Pictures Leaked]

If you’re not a true car enthusiast, you probably didn’t know that Lamborghini had an SUV coming up did you? Me either! Well, that’s not a surprise since Porsche came out with a beautiful SUV, the Cayenne and had great success with it. Lamborghini on the other hand hasn’t had anything different like the Cayenne SUV. They’re finally taking a stab at the SUV market with a rumored “Urus” SUV with a sloping roof-line that is similar to a Range Rover Evoque crossover. The front end of the New Lamborghini Urus SUV pictures show a sleek and low design that almost looks like a car. It’s tough to tell if it’s actually an SUV or a car from what I can see. I’m curious what the price point would be on this SUV, after all it’s doesn’t give the same feeling as a red Lamborghini in my opinion, so I would hope that it would be around the Cayenne price, but we’ll see. What do you think it would sell for?

Dick Clark, Pop-Culture Icon Mourned by Ryan Seacrest and Others

The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of Dick Clark, the famous producer, radio talkhost, “American Bandstand”, and “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” host. The cause was a heart attack at the age of 82. There are many big names in the entertainment industry who are deeply saddened, especially Ryan Seacrest, his right hand man during the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve broadcasts.

Ryan Seacrest shows his respect and life lessons from Dick Clark in his statement:

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend Dick Clark. He has truly been one of the greatest influences in my life. I idolized him from the start, and I was graced early on in my career with his generous advice and counsel. When I joined his show in 2006, it was a dream come true to work with him every New Year’s Eve for the last 6 years. He was smart, charming, funny and always a true gentleman. I learned a great deal from him, and I’ll always be indebted to him for his faith and support of me. I didn’t really even know the history of Dick Clark, and only new he was famous by being an entertainer (I’m 27 so I wasn’t around for his early history!), and obviously from hosting the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve every year. Well I did some research and found out that his career exploded when he was the host on a show called “American Bandstand, a show where boys and girls danced to new hits and singles. Many popular artists showed up on American Bandstand and when Dick moved to California so did “American Bandstand! He was popular with a variety of other shows and even the “American Music Awards.

Very sad to hear about a legend and popular host pass, but looking back at his life, you can gain knowledge and lessons from all that he accomplished. Facebook Coupons – Offer’s for your Business

Facebook is rolling out a new Facebook Offers feature, which will allow businesses to create coupons and publish them to a news feed. The offers can be distributed through your customer news feed or even promoted as a Sponsored Story.

It’s not surprising that Facebook is releasing a feature like this, especially since they’re moving towards additional ways to monetize. They tried launching Facebook Deals, but that didn’t catch on. So instead they launched FB coupons still targeted towards businesses but with a different approach. I think it’s a good idea, however I feel that Facebook is starting to get flooded with Apps, Memes (stupid pictures, quotes), Ads, and now Coupons from businesses! It’s turning into a big advertisement. I think I could write a whole post about how Facebook is actually on a downfall, but I’ll get to that later.

Google Fined $25,000 for Impeding US Street Map Investigation

The Federal Communications Commission proposed a $25,000 fine on Google Inc., accusing them of purposely obstructing their investigation. The FTC said that they were slowing down it’s investigation into whether or not Google was following the proper Federal rules for collecting and storing data fro unencrypted Wi-Fi networks back in 2010.

The FTC brought the fine forward late Friday night after being forced to take action on the case, they refer to as “Wi-Spy”.

“We worked in good faith to answer the FCC’s questions throughout the inquiry, and we are pleased that they have concluded that we complied with the law,” a Google spokeswoman said in a statement.

The $25,000 fine actually has nothing to do with Google doing anything wrong in compliance of storing the Wi-Fi data, but only because they held up the investigation.

Google issued a statement that it had turned all relevant information over to FCC and challenged the allegation that it was uncooperative. Google said, “As the FCC notes in their report, we provided all the materials the regulators felt they needed to conclude their investigation and we were not found to have violated any laws … We disagree with the FCC’s characterization of our cooperation in their investigation and will be filing a response.”

80 Year Old Woman Lands Plane – Husband Was Dying

An amazing yet sad story is sweeping the internet. An 81 year old pilot, John Collins of Sturgeon Bay, went unconscious after suffering a medical emergency. His 80 year old wife ,Helen, took over even though she isn’t a certified pilot. While her husband was dying in the seat next to her she landed the plane safely at Door County’s Cherryland Airport.

She was guided by two pilots over the radio. The following is a clip from their communication while landing the plane:

Catherine Vuksanovic, a seasoned flight instructor, communicated with her via radio from the ground.

She says Helen was ready to take control of the situation.

“I said ‘Hi Helen this is Cathy, how are you doing?’ ‘Well I’m doing ok,’ she said, but she said, ‘I’ve got three people talking to me at once, and I can only talk to one person at a time.’”

That one person became Catherine’s husband, Robert Vuksanovic, a pilot with 28,000 hours of flight experience, who coached Helen Collins from the air.

“She was confident, she wanted to know if I was confident in her confidence and I said ‘Well if you’re confident, I think we’re confident, I think we can do this,” Robert explains.

Robert Vuksanovic flew next to Collins, helping her align the plane with the runway.

He says the biggest challenge in landing is pointing the nose of the plane up. Fortunately, this was a technique Helen learned from her husband.

“I think if you will just through osmosis, just living together and flying together, they flew a lot,” explains Robert.

Helen Collins was taken to an area hospital after the incident, she has since been released without injuries.

Her husband, John Collins, was pronounced dead at the scene due to his medical condition.

This application, once you approve it, will auto-post birthday greetings to your friends on Facebook without you knowing. Not only will it post cards, but it posts them a day before so it’s the first birthday post on their wall. A lot of users of this app fall for the trap and think it’s nice that it auto posted a greeting on a friends wall, but I think it’s just downright creepy. Why do I think the “Greetings App” is spammy and borderline virus-like you ask?

Just look at what it will post on someones wall below once you give it permission. Most likely people giving the app permission don’t even notice they are because they want to actually see the greeting card. I haven’t even looked at the greeting card, but of course it’s a load of B.S. to get traffic to this greeting app. So you click on the card, give them information and it then has the permission and power to auto-post birthday cards on friends Facebook walls without you knowing!

How to remove this Birthday, Facebook application or any other annoying app!

Now click on “Apps” from the left hand menu, then click the “X” to remove any apps you do not want. It will confirm that you want to remove it, just click “remove”.

Pink Slime Free Beef List

If you haven’t heard of Pink Slime, read our original article we posted describing it. It’s an additive (in short terms) that is contained in some ground beef you buy at the supermarket or even a restaurant. This information was found on the ABC news website. ABC News emailed the top 10 grocery chains in America about Pink Slime and seven responded:

1. Safeway
“We rely on the federal government to help guide us on food safety issues. USDA has been clear in its judgment that Lean Finely Textured Ground Beef is a safe source of nutrition. However, we are reviewing the matter at this time.”

2. Ahold (Stop & Shop/Giant)
“Stores operated by the divisions of Ahold USA do carry ground beef made with Boneless Lean Beef Trimmings (BLBT), also called Finely Textured Beef (FTB). Boneless Lean Beef Trimmings (BLBT) is beef and is absolutely safe for consumption. To make the product, beef companies use beef trimmings, which are the small cuts of beef that remain when larger cuts are trimmed down. These trimmings are USDA-inspected, wholesome cuts of beef. This process has been an industry standard for almost 20 years. Alternatives to the conventional ground beef supply, in the form of Certified Angus Beef and Nature’s Promise ground beef products, are available to customers in stores across all of the divisions of Ahold USA. These products do not include the use of BLBT. Customers are being encouraged to ask any meat associate should they have any questions or would like to be directed to meat that does not include Boneless Lean Beef Trimmings. Our labeling is in compliance with USDA regulations. BLBT is USDA tested and approved ground beef and therefore does not require labeling.”

3. Costco
Does not use pink slime.
“Anything that we sell at Costco we want to explain it’s origins, and I personally don’t know how to explain trim treated with ammonia in our ground beef,” Craig Wilson, vice president of quality assurance for Costco, told ABC News. “I just don’t know how to explain that. I’m not that smart.”

4. Publix
“We have never allowed the use of LFTB (pink slime) in our meat. It’s 100 percent ground beef with no LFTB.”

5. H-E-B
“All our ground beef sold at H-E-B is 100% pure with no additives.”

6. Whole Foods
Does not use pink slime.

7. Kroger
“We do not use finely textured beef in our fresh ground beef. … We are routinely presented the finely textured beef as an option, but have always refused.”

CNN May Buy Mashable Social Media News Website

Pink Slime in Ground Beef – Goes Viral

Today if you happen to check out Google Trends, you’ll notice “Pink Slime” at the top of the list (number 11 right now). What is pink slime you ask? Oh, just a secret ingredient added to ground beef for kids school lunches, ground beef at the grocery store, and even at restaurants. The “Pink Slime” as it was nicknamed was actually purchased by the USDA for inclusion in beef. They purchased over 7 million pounds this year alone.

This Pink Slime Food Additive (that reminds me of the pink slime in ghost busters) is actually called “lean finely textured beef”, and federal law allows it to take up as much as 15 percent of ground beef – “is a mixture of leftover trimmings, sinew, and other beef parts culled from a cow once the expensive and more recognizable cuts of meat have been harvested and sent to a butcher,” reported the Blaze. “The collection of leftovers is spun in a centrifuge to remove excess fat, washed in a disinfecting solution and then minced for use in various applications.”

Yes, absolutely disgusting isn’t it? At least Jamie Oliver exposed the nasty pink beef slime during a segment from “Oliver’s Food Revolution” TV show. Check out his video below:

Here’s the description:

On the Season Premiere of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution filmed in Los Angeles and aired on April 12, 2011, Jamie demonstrates how 70% of America’s ground beef contains leftover cow parts (a.k.a. “pink slime”) containing e.coli and salmonella that has been treated with ammonia. Ammonia treated meat can be found in virtually all conventional grocery stores, fast food restaurants, many national restaurant chains, and school cafeterias. The saddest part is that the USDA allows this ammonia treated meat to enter the marketplace and with no labeling requirement on the packaging to inform the consumer that the meat they’re about to buy contains ammonia, thus hiding the truth and pulling a wool over the consumer’s eye. This is certainly a rude awakening to the majority of Americans that don’t know where the meat in their fridge, the meat in their conventional local grocery store, the meat in their fast food hamburger, and the meat in their restaurant made hamburger comes from. How do you avoid this poison? Buy beef that has come from grass fed cows, which can be found at natural and organic grocery stores and your local farmers market. News Update: Apparently McDonald’s discontinued the use of the Pink Slime since August of last year:

Todd Bacon, McDonald’s senior supply chain officer, told the Daily Mail that the decision “was not related to any particular event, but rather to support our effort to align our global beef raw material standards.”

In a statement, McDonald’s clarified that it stopped using “select lean beef trimmings” — its preferred term for scrap meat soaked in ammonium hydroxide and ground into a pink meatlike paste — at the beginning of last year.

“This product has been out of our supply chain since August of last year,” it said.

As a New England Patriot fan, I know he’s a valuable tool, however, how much more can he be a threat at age 35 with another offense change? It’s going to be an interesting pick for the 49ers and could be a good decision if he still has some juice left. A wide receiver as tall as Randy makes a huge difference towards the red-zone (within 20 yards of the end zone), especially when quarterbacks can loft the ball into the corner away from the defensive back. I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot of this pitch-and-catch this upcoming season with the 49ers.

How Picklee Uses Pinterest Pin’s to Gain Visitors

Will Pinterest soon trump Facebook, Twitter? As of last week, Pinterest was the third most popular social networking site behind Facebook and Twitter!

Pinterests exponential growth over the past year has marketing experts buzzing and companies of all sizes leaping on board. The site launched its Beta trial in March of 2010 and has not stopped growing since. By December of 2011, Pinterest was listed among the top 10 social media networking sites with more than 11 million visitors a week. Last month (February 2012) alone, Pinterest experienced over 103 million visitors.

Pinterest allows members to comment curate their own collections by “pinning” their favorite images on theme boards they’ve created. When a member posts a pin, it instantly becomes visible on the home page of the member’s “followers”. Any member can “re-pin” their favorite things either from those they follow or from Pinterest in general. Pins may get even more visibility if they turn up on Pinterest’s home page even for a minute of two. The beauty of the “pins” is that they are images with direct links to the websites they originated from. This has aided in the growth of many small and large businesses alike.

We followed one “DIY” & inspiration blog, picklee.com as they experienced tremendous growth from Pinterest in just the past couple of months. Picklee.com creator, Jordan Crompton shares her Pinterest success story:

“Picklee began in the beginning of 2012 as a place for me to share my creations and inspirations. As a home design consultant on the East Coast, I began posting my own DIY projects, furniture revival before & afters, and recipes to Picklee on a daily basis. Pinterest has become huge in terms of referral traffic. The website offers its own hints for companies that are looking for some bounce from the site, “re-pinning the picks of other users is one of the best ways to build a network of followers, and the more followers you have, the more visibility you will receive”. Pinterest also suggests that businesses spotlight “aspects of your brand that may not come to mind at first,” such as environmentally friendly characteristics.

Like the old saying, “nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd”, Pinterest is certainly drawing a massive (growing) crowd. The next few months should be telling in terms of social media trends. Are social media trends moving away from profiles and status updates and toward the sharing of creative interests? It’s certainly appearing that way!

Peyton Manning a Free Agent – Colts Release Him

On Wednesday, the Colts are going to do something expected by some but hard to imagine by others. The Colts will part their ways with 36 year old Payton Manning and will release him as a free agent. Manning was an icon in Indianapolis, especially after leading the team to win the Super Bowl in 2006. It’s hard to imagine anyone else behind the offensive line calling audibles or reading defense anywhere near as good as he did.

Manning’s free agency will provide a huge edge to anyone looking for a free agent quarterback (as long as they can afford him). On Wednesday Manning will speak at a press conference.

It’s not a complete surprise since he’s had a neck injury that forced him to miss the entire 2011 season. Well, it will be an emotional press conference for Payton Manning but we’ll see how he handles it.

Cheetah Robot Video – Set’s New 18 mph Record

Wow, this Cheetah Robot video is really cool! I think the way it moves so fluidly makes it amazing, but what’s even more amazing is the fact that it runs 18 mph, settin ga new record for legged robots. The previous record was 13.1 mph, set in 1989.

The robot’s movements are patterned after those of fast-running animals in nature. The robot increases its stride and running speed by flexing and un-flexing its back on each step, much as an actual cheetah does.

The current version of the Cheetah robot runs on a laboratory treadmill where it is powered by an off-board hydraulic pump, and uses a boom-like device to keep it running in the center of the treadmill. Testing of a free-running prototype is planned for later this year.

While the M3 program conducts basic research and is not focused on specific military missions, the technology it aims to develop could have a wide range of potential military applications.

Will Facebook Ever Request My Password?

Good question! Yes, there will be times when Facebook will ask for our password, however as Emil Protalinski from the article “Facebook will never request your password over email” mentions, they have changed their terms to read:

I got an email asking for my Facebook password.
Do not respond to this email. Facebook will never request your password over email, and we advise against providing your login information to anyone under any circumstances.

Before their terms did not include the “over email” part because they actually do ask for your password when users navigate to Facebook’s Update Your Security Information webpage. This was also explained in his handy article since it confused users. Here’s his original Facebook Password article. Basically he says it appears that it’s a major bug or flaw since it’s scaring people into thinking it could be some kind of a phishing scheme. Anyway, now you can be safe and know that Facebook does in fact ask for your password on their website. Just be sure the URL is definitely from Facebook!

Facebook Claimant Paul Ceglia hires new lawyers

The New York man, Paul Ceglia is not giving up on his attempt to prove that he owns 50% of the 100 billion dollar company, Facebook. He recently hired new lawyers to handle the case against Zuckerberg.

Ceglia made the move in filings in federal court in Buffalo on Monday. He has had a revolving door of lawyers in the long-running dispute with Facebook. Milberg is a New York firm that built its reputation representing consumers and investors in class-action litigation. It was previously known as Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes & Lerach before an investigation sent four former partners to prison.

Ceglia claims he signed a 2003 contract with Zuckerberg, then a student at Harvard, that entitles him to a large stake in the Menlo Park, Calif., firm, which is on the verge of an initial public offering that could value the company at $100 billion or more. Facebook says the partnership agreement was doctored.

Ceglia has retained multiple attorneys in his quest to win a legal judgment against Facebook.

“We took a good hard look at all of the information available, including evidence in Ceglia’s favor, and we believe he deserves to have his day in court,” Milberg attorney Sanford Dumain said in the statement.

He added, “We look forward to examining records from computers that Mr. Zuckerberg used when he was a freshman at Harvard and other records that will help answer questions about the ownership of Facebook.”

Attorneys for Facebook, which won a motion for expedited discovery last summer, won the right last week to inspect the contents of Google Inc. (GOOG) email accounts owned by Ceglia including getzuck@gmail.com, according to court filings. The email address is a reference to Zuckerberg’s nickname, Zuck.

Men are for Mars movie ‘John Carter’

When Walt Disney Co.’s “John Carter” opens in theaters this weekend, the science-fiction adventure may encounter obstacles as formidable as its hero faces on Mars.

Its sweeping scope and $250-million budget suggest director Andrew Stanton’s ambition to create a cinematic adventure on a par with movies such as “Avatar” and “Star Wars” — works that were informed by Burroughs’ original pulp fiction.

Cell Phone Jammer – Silence Mobile Phones

Eric the “cell phone jammer”, from Philidelphia has stirred up a lot of controversy when he was caught using a cell phone jammer on a public bus. Authorities were tracking him down after finding out that he was using it on multiple occasions. So what does a cell phone jammer do? If you haven’t figured out from the name, a cell phone jammer interferes with cell phones so there is basically a dead spot of service.

Eric’s reason for using the cell phone jammer on buses? He didn’t want to hear annoying phone conversations while on the bus. He said he didn’t eavesdrop and just used the jammer to quiet them down. The man, identified as Eric, told NBC reporters: “I guess I’m taking the law into my own hands, and quite frankly, I’m proud of it.”

Authorities are troubled by this situation. There’s a gray area with cell phone jammers although they are illegal. What do you think? Are they that bad?

Grumble-flick chat site exposes millions of email addresses

Email addresses and passwords of over a million users of a popular sex chat site, YouPorn, were open to all due to a coding error that was undetected since 2007. The data included customer data, including email addresses. Hopefully yours wasn’t in there! Many hackers will browse websites looking for folders in public directories that have something just like this diamond (to them).

So what if they have my email and password?

What do hackers do with millions of email addresses other than the potential embarrassment to these users? The hackers can use these emails and passwords to try and access more sensitive accounts like Facebook, PayPal, etc… Recently someone got a hold of my Gmail account, and let me tell you, it wasn’t pretty what they did. I learned a valuable lesson: If you use one password across the web, a hacker can access almost anything. For example: if you use your “myname@gmail.com” account and password “1234″ in your gmail, facebook, some random site, another random site, anther site you forgot about, then all it takes is for a hacker to gain access to one of those sites to get into all of your accounts. They can even reset passwords so you can’t access accounts. Soon I’ll explain how I got hacked and you’ll understand better!

Apple iPad’s Back on Shelves in Shanghai, China

Last week Apple had a scare as Proview Technology (Shenzhen) had filed a trademark infringement case stating that they owned the “iPad” trademark before Apple did in China. The iPad’s started to disappear from shelves because all retailers had to stop selling them for legal reasons. Some were hiding them and selling them under the table, while others had them removed by authorities.

Good news for Apple though, the Shanghai Pudong New Area People’s Court denied a request by Proview Technology (Shenzhen) for the injunction and agreed to Apple’s request that the trademark infringement case be suspended pending a ruling in a separate case in a higher court.

This means the iPad’s will be back on the shelves in Shanghai until the case is settled. It’s not yet known what will happen with the trademark issues, but Apple will now have some breathing room to deal with the case in court while their products continue to be sold.

Stepmother, Allegedly Forced Girl To Run To Death

Authorities say 9-year-old Savannah Hardin died after being forced to run for three hours as punishment for having lied to her grandmother about eating candy bars. Severely dehydrated, the girl had a seizure and died days later. Now, her grandmother and stepmother who police say meted out the punishment were taken to jail Wednesday and face murder charges.

Witnesses told deputies that Savannah was told to run and not allowed to stop for three hours on Friday, an Etowah County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said. The girl’s stepmother, 27-year-old Jessica Mae Hardin, called police at 6:45 p.m., telling them that Savannah was having a seizure and was unresponsive.

Savannah Hardin died Monday at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s release says the autopsy report showed the girl was extremely dehydrated and had a very low sodium level. A state pathologist ruled it a homicide.

What a sad story this is. Savannah’s grandmother and stepmother better go to jail for murder charges. I mean, how could you not know that a child shouldn’t be running for 3 hours straight without a break? I’m sure we all ran around for hours on end as a kid but we had the freedom to stop and grab a drink then go back out. It appears to me that these brutal people didn’t even let her drink. We’ll find out what happens to them, but in the meantime they murdered an innocent little girl by pushing it waaaaaaaay too far overboard.

Google’s New Smartphone Glasses – Will you wear them?

In case you’ve been living under a rock today… or don’t listen to the radio, news, or have a chance to check out Google News, you’ve probably heard about Google’s New Smartphone Glasses with a Heads up Display (AKA HUD). These glasses will allow you to connect to your smartphone and view a screen inside of the lens of your glasses.

Nick Bilton writes in the “Bits” blog:[T]he glasses will go on sale to the public by the end of the year. These people said they are expected “to cost around the price of current smartphones,” or $250 to $600.

The glasses would be packed with motion sensors for navigation (more on that in a minute) and GPS sensors. They would use a 3G or 4G connection. And they would come with a small glasses-mounted screen, which would site inches away from the eye.

The literal “retina display” equipped glasses are described to resemble Oakley’s Thumps. They would be released as a stand-alone Android device, though it is possible that Google could bake in a connection to your traditional handset via local Wi-Fi or 3G routing, as well.
