Modern technological marvels have changed the world. They have changed the way we live, eat, communicate and what not. And the medical world is not untouched by these techs. The technologies that we once used to see in science fiction movies, the ones that seemed to be impossible, are starting to emerge in the real life too. We have already witnessed pills that take pictures to robots that help doctors in surgeries. While some technologies are lined to change the medical world, some are already making lives better. Some of these are affordable while some are far away from reach of a common man. However, here is a list of technological marvels that have defined contemporary medical success.

A BODY-PART PRINTER!

Yes, one can soon get his/her body parts printer via a printer says Jordan Miller, PhD, University of Pennsylvania.Manufacturing heart valves, muscle tissue, skin and other body parts will be a click away. And all this will be possible because of bio printing. It is a technique that has the ability to create human tissues. All we need to do is feed it with a special ink that is made from donor stem cells. Jordan says, “These printers use stem cells and special gels to build living, 3-D structures one layer at a time”. But producing whole body parts is not yet possible practically as this printer is capable of printing only thin sheets of tissue. The long term goal however is a set bit high. Aim is to be able to produce transplants for one in need without having to wait for donor or use immunosuppressant drugs.

PillCam

Many people suffer from bowel disorders or problems in the digestive tract. Though doctors with their experience try to treat the disorders or problems, it would have been very much helpful if they could have actually seen what exactly is going on inside our body. Well, Given Imaging Ltd gave the solution to it. Pillcam is a $500 camera that one can swallow just as any other pill. This pill transmits photos from inside you wirelessly to data recorders. Doctors can then examine the photos to know what is going on in there. After documenting the trip the pill is flushed out through the gastrointestinal tract. There are three different designs to choose from as per different body types. First generation of these pills were approved in 2001 and 2004 and more than 1.5 million of them have already served.

Electronic Aspirin

Almost everyone suffers from headaches or facial pain at least once in lifetime. However, causes of the same are different. Some get a head pain because reasons like debt settlement issues and if that is the case, top ten reviews of debt settlement reviews may help you! But other reasons of such head or facial pains include migraines, etc. Doctors relate severe pains with a bundle of facial nerves known as sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG). In such conditions, even aspirin won’t help the patients. Hence, Autonomic Technologies, Inc. developed something that you can call an electronic aspirin! This technology includes a small nerve stimulating device that is implanted in the upper gum side of the head. SPG bundle is thus connected to the leading tip of this implant and the patient is ready to tackle a headache. When the patient senses a headache, he or she has a remote controller that controls the implant. This controller sends signals to the implant which then blocks the pain causing neurotransmitters. This is definitely something to keep an eye on!

Needle-Free Diabetes Care

All the diabetic patients already suffer a lot. And the self-care they have to use to monitor their health is yet another pain for them. For glucose testing and to know the need of insulin shots, they have to draw blood. More over, they are also at risk of infection because of that constant poking. But not any more. There is an advanced technology being developed by Echo Therapeutics (Philadelphia, PA) which will eradicate the need of penetrating your skin for testing. Yes, blood can be analysed through the skin, all thanks to the transdermal biosensor that the company is working on. This sensor will take a reading per minute and sends the data to a monitor. When levels go up from normal, it triggers an alarm. This might be the future of diabetes care around the world!

Prosthetics with a sense of touch

In March 2013 Dennis Aabo Sorensen got to try something that he or anyone like him had never done before. He got his hands on a prosthetic hand that is developed by a group of European engineers and scientists. But this prosthetic was not like any other, he felt a sense of touch with this one. A blindfold test concluded that Dennis was able to differentiate between different items like an orange, a bottle and a baseball bat. However, this hand is yet to overcome some hurdles. A lot of processing power was needed to run this hand and it was powered by a laptop. Researchers are working on a processing computer that would fit inside this arm and power it. But this is what will help many people towards a better life.

3-D Printing

3-D printing has become popular these days. People are using it right from making custom made decorations to printing real food! So it obvious that medical world is not untouched by this technology. According to a survey, over 90% of all hearing devices today are 3D printed. 650,000 pairs of Invisilign teeth-straightening braces are being printed every day using the Align Technology. Because of advancement in this technology, very soon important elements of medical world like fully functioning prosthetics can also be printed. This will not only help doctors, but also may make expensive matters affordable to common public. We hope that this technology soon reaches to a point where it can be put to a widespread use in the medical world.

Predicting the most successful technology of 2014 is more art than science, but, in examining the trends, some interesting observations present themselves. One is the effort to make security both convenient and effective. The second is the rise of firms with as much interest in their social agendas as in their bottom lines.

However, the trend with the most potential long-term impact is the increasing number of women that either head or hold high senior positions in technology companies. It is part of a trend in which female entrepreneurs are increasingly desirable targets for venture capitalists. They still get a relatively small slice of the venture capital pie, but the size of the 2013 slice was 20 percent bigger than that of 2012.

These nine people will help shape the world of technology in 2014.

Francisco Aguilar and David Young

Two M.I.T. business school alumni may make rescue operations dramatically safer for first responders everywhere. Aguilar and Young founded Bounce Imaging Inc. while working on their M.B.A.s.

Their signature product, the Bounce Imaging Explorer, is a throwable camera that is the size of a baseball. Lenses and sensors point in six directions, making precision placement unnecessary. However it lands, responders can get pictures and data on potential hazards such as carbon monoxide and radiation levels.

The Bounce Imaging Explorer makes gathering data on active crime scenes, combat zones, and disasters such as fires or explosions far less risky to first responders than earlier options. It’s the kind of product that invites new and different applications, but its primary benefit will always lie in the number of lives it saves.

Drago Bojkov

Bojkov is an executive with LifeLogger, a company that specializes in “augmented memory.” LifeLogger users record their lives with the aid of a lightweight, wearable streaming video device. LifeLogger technology includes the ability to recognize words that appear on signs, aiding place memory. It is also able to tag place names to images and associate names with faces. Links to a cloud-sharing service let LifeLogger users access these recordings from almost anywhere.

LifeLogger technology has potential for educational and business applications as well. For example, teachers could log a museum visit for use by absent students; businesses could log their processes for training and audit purposes.

Rana el Kaliouby and Rosalind Picard

El Kaliouby and Picard are the founders of Affectiva, a company that literally brings a new face to the art of gauging consumer opinion.

Affectiva’s technology uses facial-recognition technology to assess non-verbal responses to a product. In particular, it measures the consumer’s emotional response. Participants in Affectiva surveys use a webcam to record their reactions to client products. Once the survey is over, participants can either share their responses or disconnect the webcam. Roughly half choose to share.

The company plans to introduce its Affdex survey software to the smartphone market with an app development kit for Apple’s iOS.

Leila Janah

Leila Janah sees her Samasource startup as her way of using technology to fight poverty worldwide.

In its first six years, Samasource built a 4,000-person workforce and contracts worth $5 million. It has brought living wages to impoverished workers in places like sub-Sahara Africa, southern Asia, and the Caribbean by providing opportunities in data augmentation, digital transcription, and machine learning.

These opportunities build skill sets, provide part-time income and jobs to American community college students, and double the incomes of poverty-strapped employees abroad.

Tej Kohli

Kohli made his fortune in technology with Grafix Softech, a payment processing firm with its headquarters in Costa Rica.

Since 2005, Kohli has used his Tej Kohli Foundation to raise the living standards of poor women and children. Much of the foundation’s work takes place in India, where long-standing social taboos limit women’s access to education. Kohli aims to improve poor children’s standard of living by providing their mothers with educational opportunities they otherwise might not have, in addition to improving their quality of food, water, and housing.

Another major Foundation project is fighting blindness in India by providing corneal transplants and vision care.

Michelle Rowley

Many technology professionals used books, websites, and friends to pick up skills on their own. Michelle Rowley was one of them, but she realized that making more structured training available more widely would bring the benefits of a technical career to those who had traditionally not sought one: women. As the executive director of Code Scouts, Rowley seeks to bring the diversity that has penetrated much of the working world to the male-dominated world of programming.

Code Scouts began in Portland, Oregon, but looks to expand. There has already been interest from groups in major cities such as Austin, London, New York, and San Francisco. In years to come, Code Scouts may well bring a woman’s touch to software development worldwide.

Caryn Seidman-Becker

Airport security lines are the bane of many travelers’ existence. Caryn Seidman-Becker’s rescue of biometrics company Clear may make airport security less burdensome. Members use a card that incorporates a biometric chip to confirm their identities at company-supplied kiosks.

Clear had a promising start, with 200,000 members, about 12 airports under contract, and $75 million in venture capital, but the theft of a laptop holding customer data, $33 million of debt, and a declining economy led to bankruptcy in 2009.

Seidman-Becker, however, took control of Clear after the Algood Holdings investment firm bought the company in 2010. From there she has battled to re-establish the brand and rebuild confidence with customers, airports, and the Transportation Security Agency. It’s working, between 2010 and 2013 membership grew from 200,000 to 250,000. Airport participation stands at nine.

If swiping a biometric card to get through airport security becomes widespread, travelers will have Caryn Seidman-Becker to thank.

Many of these leaders will not grab headlines. With the possible exceptions of LifeLogger and Clear membership, they don’t represent products with mass market appeal. But these leaders’ impact will leave its mark on a broader scale. Their legacy, whether through risk-reducing devices or economic opportunities, is better quality of life.

Storing supplies and learning new skills is almost always a useful thing, and can be an enjoyable family activity in your spare time. No one knows exactly how many preppers there are in America, as they tend to be very secretive, but it’s becoming more common and well-known since the advent of National Geographic’s Doomsday Preppers television series. When it comes to prepping, there’s being prepared and there’s crazy, over-the-top obsession. How can you tell when you’ve gone too far?

You Can Fit a Small Town in Your Bugout Home

Some preppers go so far as to buy a separate property far from civilization, to be used as a home base once society collapses, as can be learned about on MissileBases.com. The most intense of these preppers are buying entire decommissioned missile bases including underground homes and entire silos designed to become housing for hundreds of people.

Everything Looks Like a Prepper Item

When you see a Macy’s sale and all you can conjure up in your mind are ways that you can use those goods to prep your home, you know you’ve gone down the prepper rabbit hole. From kitchenware to jewelry, you could use anything in an emergency.

The MRE Sellers Call You

The government changes flavors and ingredients in their Meals Ready to Eat, or MREs, each year, according to MREInfo.com. The meals are good for years when stored correctly, and many of the favorite flavors are repeated year after year. Some folks are obsessed with getting the newest flavors every single year, just like collecting baseball cards. If your MRE dealer calls you to let you know new flavors are coming in, you might be a little too invested in the process.

You Know 9 Ways to Start a Fire

Learning new skills is half the work of being a prepper, and knowing how to start a fire without a match or lighter can be one of the most basic skills of all. All those 9 methods are going to be useless, though, unless you also know how to find items to burn and how to filter water to boil. It’s much better to learn the basics for many different skills than to become an expert at one. Stock books that instruct on more elaborate skills and save specialization for when you’ve hooked up with a larger permanent group.

You’ll Have the Ingredients for Your 90th Birthday Cake

Stocking up every time you find a sale on a storeable food item is a good idea, and a great way to begin the prepping process. However, buying enough of one food to last 25 years is another. The average commercially canned food is good for no more than 5 years, and even military MREs shouldn’t be eaten after 10 years at most, according to a study from Utah State University. It makes no sense to create a giant bunker filled with jars of peanut butter and cans of beans when you could use the space for something more sustainable, such as seeds and gardening tools. You’ll have to produce your own food eventually in a total collapse, and you’ll never need tons of food in a shorter emergency, so diversifying is a much smarter use of your time and money.

If John Coomer got hit in the eye from a foul ball at the Kansas City Royals game, the team would have likely paid for his surgeries and suffering. In this case, John was hit in the eye with a hot dog when a mascot threw a hot dog wrapped in foil.

The Missouri Supreme Court is weighing whether the “baseball rule” — a legal standard that protects teams from being sued over fan injuries caused by events on the field, court or rink — should also apply to injuries caused by mascots or the other personnel that teams employ to engage fans.

Coomer, 53, declined to discuss the case. His lawsuit seeks an award of “over $20,000” from the team, but the actual amount he is seeking is likely much greater.

The scary part about this lawsuit is that it directly affects baseball and other sports fans in a big way. How many times have you heard “getcha hotdog here!” and watched as the fans try to catch the hotdog? It’s such a fun way to interact when your at an event, but the sad part is that it will probably be eliminated after this lawsuit. Surely the man was injured, but it seems like it’s one of the first incidents… What do you think, will they get rid of dog tossing?

Nyjer Morgan is becoming quite a controversy in Major League Baseball.

His fights, brawls, home plate collisions, and other antics of temper are starting to catch up with him and people are starting to talk about how Nyjer Morgan simply needs to go.

The Nationals center / left fielder is starting to become not only a big controversy in MLB, but he’s become a big hit on the web.

People want to know what it is about this guy that everyone is talking about, and of course, people want to see some Nyjer Morgan videos.

Most recently, Morgan has cost his team runs by instigating home plate collisions.

Last Saturday, as he was running to home plate to score, Nyjer Morgan stepped out of the baseline to hit the catcher.

The problem was that the catcher wasn’t in the baseline, and while trying to hit the catcher, Morgan missed the plate completely.

When a teammate came out to turn him around to touch the plate, he was called out due to players interference.

So what would have been an easy score turned in to an out for the Nationals and cost his team a run.

Let’s see what so many people are talking about with this guy Nyjer Morgan

Here are some videos of Morgan that I was able to find. If you find some other good videos of Morgan, definitely share the links in the comments.

When you all let Jim Thome go last year, it seemed that only Ozzie himself knew the mistake that was being made. And last night, the pied piper came calling. Jim Thome stepped up to the plate in the 10th inning and ripped a home run over the right field wall. This gave the Minnesota Twins a 7-6 victory over the Chicago Whitesox, and also a 4 game lead in the AL Central Division.

Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella has just announced his retirement from Chicago on Tuesday. This will bring to end a 22 year career as a baseball managing great, with 18 years managing in the majors.

ESPN – The 66-year-old Piniella said he was looking forward to spending more time with his family.

“I’ve grown to love the city and the fans but at my age it will be time to enter a new phase in my life,” Piniella said in a statement released by the team.

Announcing his retirement now, Piniella added, gives the team time to find a replacement.

“I’m proud of our accomplishments during my time here and this will be a perfect way for me to end my career,” he said. “But let me make one thing perfectly clear: our work is far from over. I want to keep the momentum going more than anything else and win as many games as we can to get back in this pennant race.”

The Cubs said Piniella will retire as the 14th-winningest manager in major league history.

Today is the first day of the third quarter of 2010. We are in the middle of Major Leage baseball’s “dog days of summer”, but many Braves fans, including myself, are already thinking about who will replace Head Coach Bobby Cox when he retires at the end of the season. There are some great candidates to replace Cox, too, as reported in the The Bleacher Report, June 22, 2010. Personlly, I’d like to see Terry Pendleton get the nod. As a player and later as a batting coach, Pendleton has excelled in contributing to the game of baseball, and has been loyal to the Braves organization and Coach Bobby Cox.

Growing up, I remember watching the Braves in the ’70’s and ’80’s on TV station WTBS Atlanta. Fortunately as a kid, I was more interested in baseball cards and individual players than game stats and Braves wins. I remember, however, catching Braves fever at the Blue Moon Saloon Piano Bar in Augusta, GA, watching all seven games of the 1992 National League Championship Series between the Braves and the Pittsburg Pirates. Who could forget pinch-hitter Francisco Cabrera’s two outs, bases loaded, Pirates leading the Braves 2-1, bottom of the nineth game-winning single to left field, bringing in David Justice to tie the game and slow-footed Sid Bream’s slide into homeplate to beat Barry Bond’s throw to the plate for the winning run?

The silence was deafening as all in the bar quietly questioned Cox’s last-minute genius, and Lady Luck’s blessing of placing Cabrera in the batter’s box, the silence shattered only by the crack of a big bat and an eruption of cheers – and the rest is history.

In my humble opinion, there’s nothing like the sweet taste of victory to drive a man to continue the pursuit of excellence in his future endeavors. Herein lies the bond set between Cox and Pendleton.

Although Terry Pendleton may be the fan favorite to lead the Braves, there’s another great coach that just became available for the position. The Marlin’s just fired Fredi Gonzalez. Sports Editor Rob Rains of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, wrote an excellent article Inside Baseball: Pendleton’s managerial hopes drop a notch on June 24, 2010, comparing and contrasting Gonzalez vs. Pendleton, and makes an excellent case Pendleton may have slightly lost his edge as a shoe-in to manage the Atlanta Braves.

Right now on ESPN3.com you can watch the New York Yankees playing the Philadelphia Phillies live online. The game right now is in the bottom of the 8th inning and the Phillies are up 6 – 2. However, the Yankees just got a man on base.

The game is being played at the new New York Yankees stadium.

This is a rematch of last year’s World Series between the Yankees and Phillies and of course, since it’s the Yankees playing, the stands are relatively full.

Here’s a recap of the live blog by the NYDailyNews:

9:26: So let me get this straight… Burnett can’t get anyone out, but Logan/Gaudin have retired 14 of 15, with one intentional walk?

9:18: A-Rod walks to give the Yankees their first baserunner of the night. Moyer has not looked at first base once all game.

9:05: Here’s Chad Gaudin to try to keep the deficit at four runs.

8:55: Logan showing Yankees fans they may have been wrong about him. Nine batters, eight outs and one intentional walk.

8:50: Back from the radio booth and I just realized something: We’re five innings in and the Yankees haven’t had a runner on base yet. Two hits, two home runs.

8:25: Logan pitches out of a bases-loaded jam. The Yankees will have to start hitting Moyer soon if they want to get back in the game. For the record, the Yanks have not won a game this season when they’ve trailed by four or more runs.

8:19: Burnett fails to cover first, ending his night on a real sour note. Fans here just booed him off the mound.

8:09: Moyer looks great. Has retired nine of 10, his only mistake coming on Cano’s home run.

8:00: Two monster solo shots by Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth make it a 6-1 Phillies lead. Boone Logan warming up in the bullpen.

7:46: Robinson Cano drills an 81 mph “fastball” from Moyer into the right-field seats. It’s 4-1 Phillies.

7:39: That one’s gonna hurt. Shane Victorino hits a bases-clearing triple, giving the Phils a 4-0 lead.

7:35: Burnett gives up three hits and a walk, giving the Phillies a 1-0 lead and bases loaded with one out.

7:25: Quick first inning for Moyer. Honestly, could there be two more opposite pitchers than Moyer and Burnett?

7:17: Good first inning for Burnett, who hits Chase Utley and throws a wild pitch but escapes without any damage. Here comes 47-year-old Jamie Moyer. Usually, a sentence like that would be sarcastic, but the guy is actually 47!

7:08: And we’re underway. Game-time temperature 72 degrees.

We can’t say that drinking the new Stevia Sweetened FRS Energy Drink will help you win the Tour de France along with Lance Armstrong, drive like Raphael Matos at Indy, or be a baseball Rookie of the Year like Andrew McCutchen – but we can say that you’ll feel as if you could. – even if you don’t sleep at Holiday Inn Express.

FRS has introduced two new Stevia sweetened all natural drinks – Apricot Nectarine and Orange. Both are rich in B and C vitamins and contain the antioxidant quercetin. Quercetin is found in fruits and vegetables such as berries, red apples and grapes. It has been proven in clinical studies to deliver sustained energy, help promote better fitness and support the immune system.

Both drinks are free of artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives. They join the FRS lineup that includes Wild Berry, Citrus Pomegranate, Peach Mango, and Orange. The single serving cans can be purchased from GNC, Target, Rite Aid, and Vitamin Shoppe, sports stores, supermarket chains and online at Amazon.com.

Dallas Braden, pitcher of the Oakland Athletics, pitched a perfect game today against the tough Tampa Rays.

Braden, pitching on Mother’s Day in front of the grandmother who raised him after his own mother died, pitched the 19th perfect game in baseball history. The Oakland Athletics left-hander set down all 27 Tampa Bay Rays he faced in a 4-0 victory at Oakland Coliseum.

Though the holiday crowd numbered just 12,228, the emotion in the stadium, and one section in particular, was palpable as Braden began the ninth. He lives with his grandmother, Peggy Lindsey, in Stockton, Calif., about an hour east of Oakland. She raised him from high school on after Braden’s mother, Jodie Atwood, died during his senior year of high school. Atwood suffered from melanoma. Braden’s fans sit in Section 209 at the Coliseum; that’s the area code for Stockton. [source USAToday.com]

Dallas Braden, pitcher for the Oakland Athletics, just threw a perfect game – no hits for the entire 9 innings – in a 4-0 victory for the Oakland Athletics over the Tampa Bay Rays.

The video below shows the last 3 outs in the 9th inning of Dallas Braden finishing out his perfect game – something that, for a pitcher in the Major League Baseball, is unprecedented.

You could tell the Oakland Athletic fans were growing anxious and nervous as Dallas Braden was getting closer to throwing his perfect game. The last three outs – as you can see in the video below – were not easy outs by any means. All three of the outs came from hits, fly balls and hard grounders. However, each time, the defensive players from the Oakland Athletics were able to pull threw for Dallas Braden and complete the play and get the out – the exact outs Dallas Braden needed to throw his perfect game on May 9th.

Here’s Dallas Braden throwing his last 3 outs of his perfect game:

The fans, and the Oakland Athletics, go crazy

As soon as the last short stop for the Oakland Athletics threw the last batter out of the 9th inning, and closed out the perfect game for Dallas Braden, you could see the Oakland fans going crazy. The players from the Oakland Athletics rushed the mound where Dallas Braden was and started the typical dog pile in celebration for his amazing accomplishment.

So what did you think?

So what are your thoughts on Dallas Braden throwing a perfect game today, May 9th?

The incident that happened at the Phillies game where a 17 year old kid rushed onto the field to run around, and who was then tasered by security, brought up old memories of another such bandit that stormed the fields of major league baseball games.

Morganna The Kissing Bandit

Otherwise known ad Morganna Roberts, Morganna The Kissing Bandit built her claim to fame on storming the baseball field during major league baseball games and kissing unsuspecting players. This happened in baseball and in other sports as well, and occurred mostly throughout the 70’s and 80’s.

Later, during the 1980’s, Morganna The Kissing Bandit was called “Morganna the Wild One” when appearing as a dancer at various venues.

According to Wikipedia, Her claim to fame is her kissing chutzpah and her large breasts. Her measurements were often reported to be 60-23-39. Other uncredited reports assess her measurements at 44-23-37.

She distinguished herself from the dumb blonde stereotype with her wit as displayed during her appearances on Johnny Carson and David Letterman’s late-night talk shows. She frequently quipped that fellow busty sex symbol Dolly Parton was “flat-chested” compared to her.

Some people find interesting ways to achieve their 15 seconds of fame in this world. I suppose there are lots of different avenues to take to achieve your moment of fame. Some decide to launch their “fame” campaign when they are old, some while they are young – but more than likely all who cast themselves out into the world to achieve instant fame, typically do so at a cost.

In this case, we are taken to a Philadelphia Phillies baseball game where a 17 year old kid decides to launch himself onto the field, run around like a mad man, and…. well… let’s just say this kid probably wasn’t expecting outcome.

In the video below, you can see the Phillies fan running around the field, and the cop chasing him is frantically trying to get him with his taser gun.

Finally, the kid makes a wrong turn and gets zapped by the taser straight up!

Dr. Dre’s Under Pressure song will be his first release from the long-anticipated third Dr. Dre solo album “Detox” scheduled for a release sometime in 2010.

Dr. Dre attended the game opener in Fenway Park in Boston for the Boston Red Sox game and gave an interview to talk about his upcoming track and the new album.

Dr. Dre also sat with Lebron James in a private viewing box during the Red Sox game and was even taking some batting practice swings with the Red Sox wearing a jersey that said “808” on the back.
What an embarrassing moment for the San Francisco Giants!

During Wednesday nights game against Houston, one of the players from the San Francisco Giants took the field with a jersey that was misspelled.

When reserve Eugenio Velez took the field for a double switch in the seventh inning at Houston on Wednesday night, he apparently had no idea his road grays read : “San Francicso”, reported Yahoo Sports.

San Francicso is misspelled in case you didn’t notice that.

Obviously, the correct spelling would be San Francisco (s before the c).

What I’m wondering here is whether or not someone lost their job over this incident?

I am a professional health care educator, registered nurse, registered respiratory therapist, and accountant, and my brain wanders at peculiar times.

I would like for everyone to think about the human body as a miracle of form and function with this thought process:

I am playing catch with Grant and with each throw and catch the human body must calculate, process, and react to a multitude of stimuli.

When the ball is approaching at 40 miles per hour our brain must judge the speed the ball is traveling, judge the trajectory of the ball, set our skeletal muscles in motion and move our body in a satisfactory manner to be in the vicinity to raise the mitt, open the mitt, see the ball enter the mitt, and close the mitt. The human brain then has to process what to do with the ball we hopefully just caught.

What I find even more amazing is throwing the ball. The human body has to calculate the mass of the ball, the correct grip to place on the ball, the distance of the player to throw the ball to, and the force it will take to get the ball from one point to another accurately. To make things more difficult, usually the target the thrower is aiming at is not stationary. How does the baseball player hit his/her target consistently?

You may ask why I consider this simple act a miracle? It’s because the human body does this without cognitively thinking about it and within seconds or portions of seconds. Oh and I forgot to tell you, Grant is eight.

A Life Serving God

Grant Desme, a 23-year-old minor league outfielder in the Oakland A’s minor league system, is retiring from baseball to follow what he believes is God’s calling on his life, and that is to serve in the Catholic priesthood.

It’s not everyday you see this level of commitment to do what God has called you to do, or what God has put in heart and soul to pursue.

Passing up certain riches in Major League Baseball to pursue a life committed to God, and doing God’s will is certainly – in my honest opinion anyway – an unprecedented and admirable decision in this day and age in which we live.

According to Yahoo Sports, Desme said on a Friday afternoon conference call:

“I’m doing well in baseball. But I had to get down to the bottom of things, to what was good in my life, what I wanted to do with my life. Baseball is a good thing, but that felt selfish of me when I felt that God was calling me more. It took awhile to trust that and open up to it and aim full steam toward him … I love the game, but I’m going to aspire to higher things.”

We all know that the NFL has been toying around with the idea of putting sponsor logos on their jerseys.

In fact, it’s already happening with the Seattle Seahawks placing logos on their practice jerseys.

Here’s 3 reasons why the NFL should just go ahead and start putting sponsor logos on the actually game jerseys of every NFL team.

1) The NFL owners need more revenue to turn each game into an entertainment production. Sponsorship on jerseys would definitely help this cause. I’ve always believed that the reason the NFL does so much better than pro baseball and pro basketball is because from the pre-game, to the final second of play, it’s an entertainment production that’s got a lot of energy and it’s exciting to watch. The owners need to turn their stadiums into entertainment arenas for each game. This will increase ticket sales, and continue to grow the NFL empire!

2) We need to keep all of the best games on cable network TV and avoid rediculous blackouts. Bottom line – the best way to get more eyeballs watching a game is by ensuring that it hsows on cable TV. And with the threat of blackouts each season, additional sponsorships to the NFL teams could help with the cost of showing the games on TV.

3) It will cause lower performing teams with crappy records to improve their performance. If game day jerseys had sponsorship logos, and the sponsors where free to choose which team got their logo, then obviously the highest paying sponsors would be buying up placements on the best performing NFL teams. And in turn, the lowest performing NFL teams (think the Detroit Lions), would be hurting because no sponsors would want to touch them.

There you go – my 3 reasons why the NFL should invite sponsor logos to be placed on the gameday jersesy – not just the practice jerseys.
