There has been another oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico.

12 people were reported to have fallen into the water and only 1 injury is being reported.

The explosion site is west of the site of the BP oil rig explosion that was the start of the worst oil leak in the history of the US.

The blast that just happened was reported by a commercial helicopter company at approximately 9:30am CDT Thursday.

Seven helicopters, two planes, and four boats were all in route to the explosion site which is about 80 miles south of the Vermilion Bay in the center of the Louisiana coast.

Is Google controlling the search results subjective according to Government influence and dictation from the very highest office in the land – The White House?

The video below called The Obama Deception, although playing here in its entirety – nearly 2 hours long – the video was reportedly removed from Youtube on Friday. Not only was the video no longer found in the search results, or anywhere else on Youtube, but the search term the obama deception was also nowhere to be found, except perhaps on page 50 or greater in Google.

Here’s the full length video of The Obama Deception:

Here is what Prison Planet is reporting about the potential that Google is manipulating search results according to the United States government’s direction:

As we reported Friday, the term ‘Obama Deception’ had surged to number one on the Google trends rankings, above Lindsay Lohan, the BP Oil Spill or the death of George Steinbrenner. What’s more, the viewcount grew by nearly 100,000 in that same single day, demonstrating the accelerated attention the film has been receiving.

Then suddenly the version of the documentary that had 6.5 million views and was linked to from all over the Internet was deleted, presumably by someone at YouTube or Google who had overriding access to the user account.

Now, the term isn’t even in the top 500 trends – it doesn’t even register when searching.

As a response Alex Jones asked his readers and listeners to search the term ‘obama deception censored’. Extremely quickly that term also hit the top spot, with links to Prisonplanet and Infowars articles we had written covering the news.

However, that term now also no longer registers on Google trends.

Is Google in the government’s back pocket?

This raises a very interesting question and that is, is Google in the back pocket of the government? Google is far and beyond the #1 search engine globally. And the search data would obviously be highly influential in government research (CIA, FBI, terror threats, etc…).

But is it possible that Google will alter the search results if something is showing that could be potentially damaging to the Obama administration?

Google ultimately has control over their own search engine. And they could, I suppose, control whatever they wanted since they own the search property. However, if Google begins altering the search results then the quality and reputation of Google will start to decline and ultimately, in an extreme case, Google’s relevance would be irrelevant.

The testing so far of the new containment seal is encouraging, according to BP and government officials. Pressure in the well has been increasing steadily since BP stopped the gushing pipe on Thursday with a seal and cap containment system.

Pressure rising in the BP oil pipe is what the engineers are looking for. Increased pressure means there are no other leaks along the pipe and the seal containment system is working. However, the pressure within the oil pipe is starting to decrease from the levels it was recording early on since Thursday, which is expected according to BP.

Once BP has completed the testing of the pipe, which should be by tomorrow morning, “we will immediately return to containment, using the new, tighter sealing cap with both the [vessels] Helix Producer and the Q4000,” according to retired Adm. Thad Allen, the government’s response manager.

This means that for a short period of time, oil will once again be gushing into the Gulf of Mexico while BP readies the tubes to lock into the containment caps for transporting the oil up to the containment ships.

Looking forward, BP is says they are ahead of schedule with the two relief wells that are being drilled, and that will ultimately close down the damaged well once and for all.

Yesterday was the day that everyone affected by the BP oil spill has been praying for. BP was able to successfully shut off the 2 million gallons of oil per day that has been gushing from their broken pipe since April 20th.

At around 3:30pm, BP was able to start closing valves on the seal cap placed over the broken oil pipe. This procedure was a risky one because 1) it has never been performed at depths of 5000 feet and 2) with the valves closing, pressure could burst other parts along the pipe causing more oil spill to rupture.

As of now, BP is reporting good news so far with their procedure. BP and government engineers and scientists are monitoring the pressure within the pipe to ensure that the pipe, and the seal cap, are stable.

BP says that if all goes well, within a couple of days they will be able to start opening up the valves to allow oil to flow up to oil containment ships at the leak site.

Here’s the video of BP stopping the oil from gushing from the broken pipe:

Following the news that BP has successfully stopped their busted oil well from gushing oil into the Gulf, BP PLC shares have been surging on the NYSE.

At around 3:30pm, BP PLC (NYSE:BP) shares started to surge on the NYSE. This is obviously the time frame that word about the successful stoppage of the oil leak was hitting Wall Street.

Today already, BP PLC shares are up currently +2.74 (7.57%) at 38.92 at the time of this writing.

Now the only question is whether or not the oil pipe valve that BP has in place will hold back the oil pressure, or if another leak will be created somewhere along the pipe line.

Regardless, this is a great day in the battle of stopping the oil from gushing into the Gulf of Mexico. Oil has been spewing into the gulf since April 20th at a rate of around 2 million gallons per day.

Stay tuned for more BP oil spill updates.

BP officials have just announced that they have successfully stopped oil from gushing out of it’s blown out oil pipe that is 5000 feet down in the Gulf of Mexico. The spewing oil has finally been stopped after the well explosion on April 20th.

From the Washington Post – Kent Wells, BP’s senior vice president of exploration and production, told reporters that a new capping mechanism shut off the flow of crude from the Macondo well at 3:25 p.m. EDT. He made the announcement after engineers gradually shut off valves to test the pressure. The engineers are monitoring the pressure to see whether the new cap and the well bore hold.

If successful, this will mark the end of the BP oil spill disaster that has been gushing nearly 2 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico each day since April 20th.

Here’s a current live video feed of the BP oil spill – notice that no oil is seen gushing from the pipe:

In an effort to add a little of humor and fun to the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, someone decided to create an iPhone app that allows you to plug the gushing oil leak with your finger.

The iPhone App is called Plug the BP Oil Spill and is available in the iTunes App Store for free.

From your iPhone, simply tap the App Store app on your iPhone > search for “plug the bp oil spill” and then simply download it. It literally takes 5 seconds or less for this thing to download.

Then all you have to do is open the Plug the BP Oil Spill app, tap “Begin”, and then you’ll be able to plug the gushing oil with your finger.

Sounds like fun doesn’t it?

Click here to download Plug the BP Oil Spill iPhone App (opens iTunes)

After testing the Gulf waters over a week ago, the massive oil skimming vessel call A Whale Skimmer has been given one more week to test the effectiveness of it’s oil skimming capabilities.

Previous tests of the A Whale Skimmer were proven to be “inconclusive” after the ship was unable to take in and process the oil contaminated water effectively. The main reason being that the slots on the sides of the A Whale vessel are too thin to capture oil from the choppy waters in the Gulf of Mexico.

TMT, who owns the massive skimming ship, released a statement saying they are confident that “ongoing modifications will improve the skimmer’s performance.”

TMT has spent millions of dollars of their own money on the A Whale vessel and the testing procedures up to this point and will only receive an oil skimming contract if the vessel can prove to be effective.

I would say that with the A Whale Skimmer, it’s time to either perform as expected, or pack it up and head on back to Taiwan.

Here’s an ariel view video of the A Whale Skimmer testing the Gulf waters:

Yesterday marked a turning point in BP’s efforts to contain the gushing oil from busted oil pipe 5000 feet in the Gulf of Mexico. BP was able to place a new containment seal onto the broken pipe, allowing engineers to attempt to finally shut down the gushing oil.

BP shares rose 2.9% to 410.35 pence in London on Tuesday, buoyed by rising optimism about the company’s latest attempt to stanch the leak and relief that the finale of the Gulf oil disaster may be in sight. BP’s stock has risen some 35% since hitting a 14-year low June 29 – according to the Wall Street Journal.

The company has stressed the fact that these types of procedures have never before been conducted at such depths, and success is not certain.

However, by looking at the live BP oil feed, this is best the busted pipe has looked since they started showing live feeds. It looks like BP has made substantial progress in the containment of the gushing oil leak.

Since nearly 3 months ago, BP’s busted oil pipe has been spewing nearly 60,000 barrels of oil a day into the Gulf of Mexico.

Here’s a new report on the BP oil spill from Al Jazeera:

Apparently, a protest group who calls themselves Culture Beyond Oil thought that pouring black molasses around a 3000 year old statue would be a great way to make a statement.

Culture Beyond Oil stated that they were demonstrating against BP’s sponsorship of the museum amid the massive oil spill crisis in the Gulf of Mexico.

Activists told reporters they chose an object from Easter Island because it “represents the way in which civilizations once considered invincible can collapse in a short period of time.

This amazing new video shows BP underwater robots plugging the gushing oil well that is 5000 feet deep in the Gulf of Mexico. BP announced earlier today that the new seal cap could be in place by the end of today, but from this video footage, it looks like it is secure.

Now the BP engineers will be able to determine the exact pressure and flow of the oil pipe, and then make better decisions from there.

It has been estimated by scientists that approximately 50,000 barrels of oil are gushing from the BP oil pipe every day.

BP is reporting that the new seal cap could be in place over the gushing oil well as soon as today (Monday).

Once robots put this new seal cap in place, BP engineers will then be able to assess and calculate exactly how much oil is gushing from the well, pressure rates, etc…

After this assessment, BP will be able to decide if they can simply close the seal cap and shut off the gushing oil, or if they will need to continue to siphon the gushing oil to the surface.

The BP oil spill has been ongoing since April 20th when the BP oil rig exploded killing 11 crew members.

According to CNN, scientists estimate that 35,000 to 60,000 barrels of oil are spewing daily from BP’s breached well.

BP is reporting that the new containment seal procedure is going as planned. CNN reports that according to BP’s Senior Vice President Kent Wells.

“We’re pleased with how it’s going,” Wells said, but cautioned that the operation, which began Saturday with the removal of the old cap, is only in its second day.

The new containment seal caps that BP is now attempting to get in place, if successful, could completely halt the oil gushing from the broken pipe. The oil started gushing from the pipe on April 20th after an explosion occurred on the BP oil rig killing 11 people.

BP warns however that the containment seal is only a temporary fix, and that the long term fix will come when the relief wells are completed.

BP is reporting that one of the relief wells could possibly be in place by the end of this month (July).

Since Thursday of last week (July 1st, 2010), BP’s stock price is up nearly 30% on the NYSE. What are some of the factors that have driven up BP’s stock price over the past 5 trading days? It’s hard to tell exactly, but here are some thoughts on why BP’s stock price is up nearly 30% since last Thursday:

BP CEO Tony Hayward seeks new capital investment in BP

Oil spill seal cap is expected to be in place ahead of schedule

Relief oil wells are going as planned

So with the outlook being as favorable as it can for BP, apparently share holders are somewhat encouraged and thus driving up the prices on BP stocks.

The A Whale oil skimming vessel has gotten a lot of publicity over the past week or so since it has arrived in the Gulf of Mexico. During the past couple of test runs by the A Whale skimmer, the ship has not been able to capture oil effectively, which is causing some to think that the A Whale skimmer vessel is just not going to work out as planned.

One of the main causes for the A Whale oil skimmer not being able to skim and process oil from the gulf effectively is because the long, thin slots on the front are capturing the oil from the waters.

The A Whale vessel captures oil by skimming it from the water through thin slots on both sides of the front of the ship.

The problem is that the gulf waters are rough, and the water level is in constant flux, thus not allowing the skimmer ship to capture the oil through the fixed slots on the front.

The massive oil skimming vessel called A Whale has just completed a 2 day testing period where officials are monitoring the effectiveness of it’s oil skimming capabilities.

After 2 days of testing, the results so far have been “inclusive”.

Primarily due to rough seas and high waves, the A Whale skimmer has not been able to show conclusive evidence of its effectiveness in skimming and processing oil from the gulf waters.

The Coast Guard is working closely with the A Whale owner TMT from Taiwan and expects testing to continue.

The forecast is that over the next several days, the gulf waters will be more conducive to effective testing from the A Whale vessel and results will be more readily accessible.

The Coast Guard has also stated that they are ready to deploy any and all resources into the Gulf of Mexico to facilitate the cleanup of the massive gushing oil spill.

Over 3 million barrels of oil has spilled into the Gulf of Mexico so far and the only real relief in sight is coming in August when BP wells are expected to be complete.

In other BP oil spill news, Congress has just passed legislation lifting a cap on the amount of claims and damages that can be awarded to victims.

This legislation by Congress can open the door to a substantial financial blow to BP’s bottom line as lawyers are now going to seek to maximize the damage claims.

With legislation like this, can we expect to see BP actually be drawn to the brink of bankruptcy as a result of the BP oil spill?

The Taiwanese vessel known as the A Whale Skimmer has been deployed to the Gulf of Mexico and is currently docked at Boothville, Louisiana, about an hour south of New Orleans.

The A Whale Skimmer is said to be the world’s largest oil skimming vessel in the world and is capable of 250 times more oil skimming than the fishing boats that have been deployed into the gulf since day 1.

However, the A Whale Skimmer has to wait for the government to review the vessel, analyze the vessel, and ultimately approve the A Whale Skimmer to work in the gulf.

This is what drives me crazy about the government – there is so much beauracracy, so much red tape, so many politicians who are vying for position that at the end of the day, nothing gets done.

Here we have what is about to become the single largest natural disaster in US history and the government holding back progress on fixing the problem.

The BP oil pipe continues to gush hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil a day into the Gulf of Mexico, and we now have the world largest oil skimming vessel in the world at our disposal and what are we doing?

…waiting for politicians to talk about it.

The BP oil spill recovery efforts are about to get a huge helping hand. An oil skimmer ship called the A Whale has been deployed from a Taiwanese company. The A Whale ship was originally designed to be one of the world’s largest cargo vessels to transport crude oil and iron ore. However, since the BP oil spill disaster, TMT (the company that owns A Whale) has modified the ship to become what is now known as the world’s first large-scale oil skimmer.

The A Whale arrived in the Gulf on Wednesday and was anchored in Boothville, Louisiana, about an hour south of New Orleans.

Frank Maisano, a spokesman for ship owner TMT shipping, said it is still awaiting approval to join the effort. Allen said the vessel — estimated to be able to skim up to 21 million gallons a day — is awaiting testing. That capacity is at least 250 times the amount that the modified fishing boats currently conducting skimming operations have been able to contain, the company says according to CNN.

BP Oil Continues To Gush into Gufl

As the oil spill continues to gush into the Gulf of Mexico, there is now the first hurricane of the season – Hurricane Alex – to deal with. And the weather from the hurricane is now directly impacting the relief and recovery efforts of everyone involved, barred one.

The only relief effort in the gulf that is not hindered by the hurricane is the drilling of the relief well. BP’s relief well, which will supposedly allow the gushing pipe to be shut off completely, is not affected by the hurricane weather and is still on schedule to be completed by August.

BP oil executives have agreed to pay $20 billion to a government managed fund that will pay compensation to businesses affected by the oil spill

The New York Times is reporting that The White House and top executives of the energy giant BP have tentatively agreed that the oil company will pay about $20 billion over several years into an independently controlled fund to pay compensation to people and businesses harmed by the immense oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The fund would be overseen by Kenneth Feinberg, the prominent lawyer who ran the compensation fund for victims of the Sept. 11 terror attacks and is the government’s special master for executive pay under the TARP program. President Obama demanded the creation of such a fund in his national address about the oil spill Tuesday evening, and met with company execcutives at the White House on Wednesday.

Businesses affected by the BP gulf oil spill gave been affected across the entire Gulf of Mexico – from Louisiana and now into Florida. Businesses such as hotels, real estate, fisherman, and other Gulf dependent markets, have all been greatly affected by the continual gush of oil from the BP pipeline.

Hotels have been reporting that guests have been canceling reservations on a continual basis since the crisis began. And fisherman have actually been hired by BP to use their fishing nets to capture oil from the gulf waters instead of trying to catch fish – which is not even realistic at this point because of the crisis.

The estimates of the amount of oil that is gushing from the broken BP pipeline by experts in the matter continue to revise their estimates upward. The most likely flow rate of oil today is between 35,000 and 60,000 barrels per day. These estimates are climbing literally by the day – at least from each estimate that is released by the government. At the direction of the federal government, BP is deploying today a second containment option, called the Q4000, which could expand total leak containment capacity to 20,000-28,000 barrels per day.” Energy Secretary Steven Chu. “As we continue to collect additional data and refine these estimates, it is important to realize that the numbers can change. In particular, the upper number is less certain – which is exactly why we have been planning for the worst case scenario at every stage and why we are continuing to focus on responding to the upper end of the estimate, plus additional contingencies.” So how why in the world can’t experts from both BP and the federal government not be able to accurately estimate the amount of oil that is gushing from the BP oil pipe?

The rumors of BP suspending their stock dividend are growing as the oil continues to gush from the broken BP oil pipe, and President Barack Obama relates the crisis to that of 9/11.

As you can tell from the BP live oil feed video below, it appears that BP is capturing more of the gushing oil from the broken pipe. The amount of oil being collected from the gushing oil pipe is increasing as BP today announced that:

“The lower marine riser package (LMRP) containment cap, installed on June 3, continues to collect oil and gas flowing from the MC252 well and transport them to the Discoverer Enterprise drillship on the surface.

In the first 12 hours of June 13 (midnight to noon), approximately 7,720 barrels of oil were collected and 16.9 million cubic feet of natural gas were flared. On June 12, a total of approximately 15,000 barrels of oil were collected and 32.9 million cubic feet of natural gas were flared. The total volume of oil collected by the LMRP cap system since it began operation is approximately 127,000 barrels. A further approximately 22,000 barrels of oil previously had been collected through use of the Riser Insertion Tube Tool and stored in the Discoverer Enterprise.”

[source, BP.com]

President Barack Obama calls oil spill equivalent to 9/11 attacks.

President Barack Obama said in a White House interview by Politico that the BP oil spill is comparable to the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center as it relates to the impact that it is having on our nation.

The President said that, when looking at the fact that the BP oil spill crisis came out of nowhere, and was unexpected, and that the crisis will have a long term impact on our country – long after the crisis has passed – these events are comparable to the 9/11 attacks.

“I think he’s off-base,” said ex-FDNY Deputy Chief Jim Riches, whose son died at the World Trade Center. “These were terrorist attacks, these 9/11 murders, not something caused by people trying to make money” – according to the NYDailyNews.com.

Will BP Suspend their stock dividend

Finally, it is being discussed on CNBC this morning that BP is apt to suspend their stock dividend. The cost, and the global impact of the oil spill, is having a dramatic impact on BP’s bottom line. And obviously, this is literally billions of dollars that BP was not expecting to pay out.

The BP suspension of their dividend is not expected to happen today.

The Republican part is wasting no time whatsoever to start leveraging the massive oil spill that is ongoing in the Gulf of Mexico. A video was released today that is targeted at none other than President Barack Obama, and the video is designed to do one thing – and that is attack President Obama and put the blame of the oil spill, and the oil spill response, directly on his back.

The video shows President Barack Obama has being very detached from the Gulf oil spill crisis. The video shows various senators, and TV talk show hosts hammer Barack Obama on his entire disposition during this crisis.

The video is of an ad created by his political opponents, and begs to ask the question “is this the type of change you had in mind.”

The ad really puts a negative spin on the administration, showing a variety of news clips from the last 52 days. James Carville, a Democratic strategist even speaks out against the administration – and it’s his party!

Here’s the negative ad blaming Barack Obama for the BP oil spill crisis in the Gulf:

I’ve been using the PBS Ustream live video feed to show the BP oil pipe leak, but I was just checking out the actual live feed provided by BP and it looks a whole lot nicer.

The BP live feed of the oil leak site 5000 feet deep in the ocean is actually showing a picture of progress, in my opinion. If you check out the feed, you’ll actually see that a large amount of equipment is now in place.

Although the oil is still gushing from the busted pipeline, the amount of equipment closing in on the leak certainly gives the impression that the oil leak will be stopped soon.

BP’s efforts in collecting oil

BP just announced today that for the first 12 hours on June 9th (midnight to noon), approximately 7,290 barrels of oil were collected and 15.7 million cubic feet of natural gas were flared.

BP goes on to report that on June 8th, a total of approximately 15,000 barrels of oil were collected and 29.4 million cubic feet of natural gas were flared.

Additional vessels will be arriving on site to assist in the collection and processing of oil.

BP has just announced that the company has already spent $1.25 billion in the containment efforts and environmental cleanup operations, and it is widely expected that this number will more than triple by the time it’s all over.

BP continues to take every measure possible in stopping the gushing oil leak from their pipe in the Gulf of Mexico. However, their efforts both on land in environmental cleanup and in the ocean trying to cap the leak is costing BP literally billions of dollars.

The current cost to BP for this gushing pipe in the Gulf is $1.25 billion dollars.

That’s an expensive oil leak, to say the least.

Not to mention the cost in lives from the oil rig explosion – something that simply cannot be measured monetarily.

At some point, the BP oil pipe disaster has to take a toll on the BP stock price, credit worthiness, and all the other factors that go into valuation as a company and their publicly traded shares. And certainly BP shareholders have to start getting nervous about the current status of the disaster.

Below you can see the BP oil spill live video feed continue to just ravage the Gulf of Mexico with a non stop barrage of oil gushing into the gulf.

Here we are, about 2 months into this crisis, and despite the efforts of BP up to this point, the busted oil pipeline continues to gush oil into the Gulf of Mexico. The untold level of damage to the environment, animal life, and the economy of the gulf coast region is something that cannot be tolerated for much longer.

I’m starting to form the belief that the federal government should come in and take some drastic measures on stopping this pipeline. I’ve heard it mentioned that even a nuclear explosion could work at decimating the pipeline and stopping the leak. I realize that might sound like a ridiculous idea, but look at this video and you tell me how much more of this oil gushing into the gulf can be tolerated.

BP’s efforts have been slow to produce any measurable results. I realize that the recent containment cap has succeeded in funneling oil to a processing ship. But it has also succeeded at increasing the gushing oil by 20% – that’ 20% on top of the estimated 25,000 barrels of oil per day that is already gushing into the gulf.

I don’t know – but it seems that this disaster can not be tolerated for too much longer before something drastic has to be done to stop that pipeline from spewing oil into the gulf.

Here’s the BP oil spill live feed video:

The volume and velocity of the oil gushing from the BP oil pipe in the Gulf of Mexico is something that both government officials and BP executives are underestimating. In fact, and something that people may have forgot, but when the BP oil rig blew up and the oil pipe broke, the initial estimates were that the oil pipe was gushing only 1000 barrels of oil a day. Today, the estimates by BP and government officials place the volume of gushing oil upwards of 25,000 barrels a day.

With that level of volume and velocity of oil spewing from the busted well, Adm. Thad W. Allen, the Coast Guard commander in charge of the government relief efforts, sees the clean up effort of the Gulf of Mexico stretching well into fall of 2010.

BP officials have even underestimated the intensity of the oil gushing from the well even as early as today as they attempt to control the containment seal valves. It has become an intricate balance of engineering and timing to prevent another failed attempt at controlling the gushing oil.

It’s hard to imagine 25,000 barrels of oil a day rushing into the Gulf of Mexico. All of that oil just continuing to fill the Gulf is very discouraging. At this point all of the effort and focus from both BP and the government needs to be on stopping that pipe from gushing oil – period. Not only is the cleanup of the gulf unprecedented, but all of the industries along the coast are going to be impacted much beyond just the fall of 2010.

There are reports coming in stating that since BP successfully completed the cut of their busted oil pipe, 20% more oil is gushing from the leak into the Gulf of Mexico.

see the live BP oil leak video below

BP stated before they started what is now their 3rd attempt at stopping the oil leak, that the process would cause an increase in oil gushing from the pipe prior to the seal containment taking full effect.

This has proven to be true, and reports are now stating that 20% more oil is gushing from the leaked pipe.

However, there is good news about BP’s oil leak containment efforts. Oil has reached the containment ship and is actually receiving oil from the leaking pipe. The process of cutting the pipe, placing a containment seal over top of the area, and then funneling the gushing oil seems to be working.

But BP has been clear from the beginning – this process is going to take time to increase the amount of oil that will be funneled up to the cargo ships on the surface.

Here’s a live video feed of BP’s leaking oil pipe in the Gulf of Mexico:

We have been bombarded with nearly 2 months of negative, disastrous news regarding BP’s oil rig explosion and the subsequent spill of gushing oil coming from their oil pipeline 5000 feet below the ocean’s surface.

News of untold wildlife damage, and environmental disaster has been the constant up to this point.

Simultaneously, as the bad news about the environment, white sandy beaches, and billions on economic damage continues to pour in, the question continues to loom – how in the world do we stop this gushing oil from spewing into the Gulf of Mexico?

Some Good News From BP’s Oil Spill Containment Efforts

According to BP’s chief executive Tony Hayward, who spoke with the BBC today (Sunday), he believes the containment cap and seal are likely to capture “the majority, probably vast majority” of the oil gushing from the well.

The containment cap, which is designed to seal the point of gushing oil from the broken pipe and then funnel that oil up to a containment ship, is purposely designed to work in stages. Meaning, this is not an overnight fix for the oil spill, but according to Hayward, it will work at achieving everyone’s objective of preventing the oil from continuing to pollute the Gulf of Mexico.

According to The AP, the gradual increase in the amount being captured is deliberate, in an effort to prevent water from getting inside and forming a frozen slush that foiled a previous containment attempt.
