The coronavirus pandemic has affected the intentional economy and disrupted our lives in the beginning of 2020. It shut down all traveling.

Start of traveling

Experts agreed that it would take around 18 to 24 months for the industry to begin returning to regular levels.

Meanwhile, travel industry will undergo some big changes: new security checks to screen travelers who are sick, vacation near home, large hospitality chains will rule.

Furthermore, airlines like Delta are considering issuing “immunity passports” to people who can prove they have already been infected.

Professor Ashish Jha notes that even if people recovered and have antibodies, it is possible they could be infected again.

Temperature checks at airport could also become the norm, but these might not catch cases where the person is asymptomatic.

Traveling will be a difficult experience. Airlines are starting to require passengers and crew to wear masks, and middle seats are left open.

Many airlines are still canceling international flights through the summer and into fall.

People of high risk will stay at home until there is a vaccine or treatment available.

Robert Reich said people will not feel safe traveling in crowded airplanes, until death rate decreases, or until there is a vaccine.

Staycationers and large chains

Josh Collins said traveling to tropical destinations might be over. However, people might look for local options, like camping or road trips.

Many bookings and trips are being cancelled. On the other hand, Jos is considering a new market- staycationers. He is thinking about marketing hotels luxurious places to spend the night after a hike in a nearby national park.

Outdoor trip might be particularly appealing after people have been cooped up in their homes for months.

This strategy has the best shot of success for many hoteliers. Traveling will resume in a slow, careful and highly phased manner.

It will kick off with local outings as the economy reopens.

Anyway, many smaller businesses will shut down, leaving behind larger chains that have more runway and can still attract people.

Collins said many of his clients have plans to bring visitors back in to their hotels and restaurants, but with social distancing. However, not every vendor will be able to sustain that kind of reduced capacity for long.

On the positive side it means more deals. Businesses will probably do more virtual meetings. That means airlines and hotels will cater to leisure travelers and may offer discounts.

As we all know, coronavirus risk disrupted life and all other social activities worldwide, including traveling and trip planning.

Therefore, those are disrupted since the start of the pandemic. So, none can tell how much will the disruption last because of Coronavirus risk.

Coronavirus risk responsible for plummeting price of flight tickets

All-around world prices for flight tickets are plummeting. That’s normal due to the risk and a huge drop in demand for flights.

Therefore, Coronavirus risk since the pandemic contributed in bad ways. Many airline companies are now offering cheap flights to a myriad of destinations.

Furthermore, some people, like a lawyer from Texas, Sery Kim saw the opportunity to engage in a flight arbitrage.

When Kim had seen that AAdvantage miles needed for May flight to Barbados dropped by 77%, she started her hunt for future flights.

Therefore, she purchased 6 round- trip tickets to Washington DC. And, for later in March for 99$ per ticket which usually costs 189$ up.

Additionally, she spent 93$ for a late-April-Miami flight instead of 330$. Also, she booked safari vacation round-trip for 900$ to Cape Town extremely cheaper.

Moreover, many people are using the newly relaxed airline change and cancellation policies caused by the coronavirus risk.

Nonetheless, Scott Keyes, Founder of Scott’s Cheap flights said that something like this has never happened before.

Not only that fares are ultra-low, but there is also the opportunity to cancel or change the trip, which is rare for modern air travel.

What will happen with the airline industry?

Substantially, offering cheaper tickets for future travels due to coronavirus risk is a good strategy for airlines to generate sales and keep the customer’s trust.

Therefore, many people are planning trips from August and onwards, when hopefully the coronavirus risk should become lower.

However, due to increased risk, airlines can get out of business in the worst-case scenario. Which is a treat for passengers also.

Therefore, governments are taking steps worldwide, to aid airlines financially.

Anyhow, despite the recent change in airline policies worldwide, passengers should be careful when engaging in flight arbitrage.

Furthermore, airline companies are reducing their services and the risk is cutting down the demand, so the policies might be different in practice.

Therefore, passengers are eligible for cash refunds for cancellation due to coronavirus risk, but the ones who cancel themselves might get a voucher.

Notably, the world is going to see the consequences in every sense and hopefully, they won’t be fatal for airlines or any other industry.

On Saturday 03.15.2020, Spain became the second country in Europe to impose sweeping restrictions on the public, telling everyone to stay indoors.

Taken measures

People could
leave their homes to buy food, go to work if they cannot work remotely, seek
health care, or to assist the elderly and others in need.

All schools,
restaurants, bars and non-essential stores should be closed.

The
authorities urged people to remain calm and maintain a one-meter distance in
supermarket lines.

Prime
Minister Pedro Sánchez described new measures as drastic and that Spain has the
capacity to overcome adversity. Therefore, some important rights must be
limited if the virus is to be beaten.

The
government would take steps to oversee and maintain the nationwide supply of
food, energy and other basic services during the 15-day lockdown, which is
scheduled to begin on Monday.

Even as the Spanish government has been stepping up its efforts to fight the coronavirus, its fractious politics and territorial tensions threatened to complicate its response.

On Saturday
the Madrid region was already feeling the effects of the restricted movement
since its 3.5 million residents started to follow the advice of the authorities
to stay at home.

Travel in Spain

The train
stations and main avenues were almost deserted. Long-distance trains and buses
across the country will have less frequent service. Only stores providing basic
services were allowed to stay open. Museums and other public venues also
closed.

Quim Torra, Catalonia’s leader, announced that its 7.5 million residents are in lockdown. Moreover, all restaurants, bars and stores were ordered to close. He asked the central government in Madrid to help suspend travel to and from the region by closing airports and train stations.

It was
necessary to “restrict entrances and departures” from Catalonia, but such a
demand could also fuel the debate over the territorial sharing of power in
Spain.

The northern
Basque region declared its own state of emergency taking full control over
health care.

Seville
canceled its Easter celebrations.

In the
region of Murcia 400,000 residents were put under lockdown. Visitors were
warned to stop heading for the seaside.

Some
tourists rebooked their flights in order to leave Spain earlier, in fear of the
airports closing.

Namely, Europeans
were not psychologically prepared for the coronavirus because they had not
faced such crisis in a while and don’t know how to react.
