Why Anti-aging Is Not a Myth Anymore

Whether it’s a mischievous boy who can fly and will never grow old, a telepathic vampire who falls in love with a young woman, or an elderly man who ages in reverse – there’s no denying that Americans are obsessed with finding the cure for old age.

Tales of a Fountain of Youth may seem like a story derived from ancient legends, but advanced medicine is proving that anti-aging isn’t just a myth in books and Hollywood movies. Scientific advancements have shown that aging is no longer inevitable.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), 15.6 million cosmetic procedures were performed in America in 2014. That’s a 3 percent increase since 2013. And while many people choose to go under the knife to reverse the signs of aging, many are opting for minimally-invasive procedures to achieve similar results. In fact, 13.9 million people underwent such a procedure in 2014, a 4 percent increase since 2013.

One such procedure is Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy (PRP).

PRP therapy is a revolutionary repair system that uses the body’s own healing powers to slow or even reverse the aging process. The therapy involves harvesting platelets from the patient’s own blood and injecting them into problem areas. The process uses minimal blood, which is then separated. The red blood cells are taken out and what is left is platelet-rich plasma, which contains high contents of growth-factor proteins.

Growth factor proteins can help to heal injured tissues or damaged skin. Because of its ability to stimulate repair and rejuvenate skin, PRP is not only beneficial in anti-aging, but is often used for regenerative repair, pain management in muscle and tendon injuries, and in damaged tissues for burn victims.

An article released by RBell Medical, LLC, tells the story of Delivery My Grub Executive VP Jeannie Heinz, who suffered severe burns to 30 percent of her body when a disgruntled former employee attempted to torch the company’s office. Heinz underwent a combination of therapies to minimize her tissue damage, including PRP.

“And it’s working,” said Heinz.

PRP is also used in cases of acute and chronic pain. PRP injections have been shown to reduce pain in patients who have suffered muscle, ligament or tendon injuries. Patients at Jersey Rehab Pain Management have reported considerable, if not total, pain relief following PRP injections.

This relatively new treatment is not only giving a biological boost to the healing process, but its reversing the clock for patients who prefer a minimally-invasive procedure to restore their youth.

The Coast Guard is searching for 2 missing people after a medical jet crash left two killed not far from the Florida  coast. The medical jet crash occurred shortly after the Learjet took off from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.  At the airport, the medical jet had deposited one of its patients and was in the process of making the flight back to Cozumel, Mexico.

An airport spokesperson stated there were four people in board at the time of the accident including two pilots, a nurse, and a doctor.

Maureen O’Hara, the Hollywood screen icon, turned 90 years old yesterday. Her family and friends held a special birthday party for her in her home and continuous stream of well wishes came from both callers and messages. She was surrounded by family and friends, including her daughter Bronwyn and nephew Andrew in Blair’s Cove, Durrus, where she was greeted by St Michael’s Bandon Pipe Band.

Dr. Frank Ryan, the famed Hollywood plastic surgeon, was killed in a car accident yesterday. The reports that are currently available say that Dr. Ryan was driving on the Pacific Coast Highway, lost control of his vehicle and drove off the cliffs. The car then came to a stop upside down, landing on the roof. Dr. Frank Ryan was pronounced dead at the scene having received significant head injuries from the accident.

Of the more famous plastic surgery cases that Dr. Frank Ryan performed, Heidi Montag’s back surgery is perhaps the most notable.

Hollywood comedians wasted no time whatsoever to take advantage of LeBron James’ The Decision. LeBron James went on ESPN last Saturday night with a 1 hour special program to announce his decision as to where he would call home next year in the NBA. By now, some people might be wondering if Chad Ochocinco is an NFL football wide receiver or a Hollywood celebrity. After his first reality TV show this season in Dancing With The Stars, Chad Ochocinco has apparently not had enough of the bright lights.

Tonight on VH1, his new reality TV show called “Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch” debuted with a 90 minute episode.

This new reality TV show has Chad trying to chose a date. The show started out with 85 women (ocho-cinco), and gets narrowed down from there.

Regardless of his ambitions for reality TV, I would think that someone in the Bengals organization is going to have some issues with all of the extra curricular activities of Chad Ochocinco.

It’s not easy being a Hollywood super star these days, especially with the internet facilitating the spreading of information. And Lindsay Lohan is just now starting to realize the downside to the internet as searches for her jail sentence are sky rocketing as we speak.

Apparently the judge is sick and tired of Lindsay Lohan not taking her DUI rehab seriously, and so the judge dropped a heavy sentence on Lohan.

90 days total in jail – 30 days each for 3 separate violiations.

So now people are searching the web frantically for the Lindsay Lohan court video.

(From NYTimes) – “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” sunk its fangs into multiplexes on Wednesday morning, selling a record-setting $30 million in tickets for 12:01 a.m. shows.

“Eclipse,” the third film in the phenomenally popular series, beat the industry’s previous midnight record-holder, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” which opened to $26.3 million in November. “Eclipse” also set an Imax record for midnight grosses, selling over $1 million and beating “Transformers 2,” according to Hollywood.com, which compiles ticketing data.

1. Jacob makes his entrance. Taylor Lautner, whom EW critic Owen Gleiberman described as “the young Matt Damon in the body of Marky Mark,” gets a classic turn-around shot. He’s wearing a shirt, and the ladies still went crazy. (To be fair, that T-shirt does fit him well.)

2. Jacob shows up shirtless at the Bella swap. Our first view of flesh. I’d argue this bit is more successful than the New Moon T-shirt removal after Bella’s motorcycle accident simply because this time, they did a better job of masking the fact that this Taylor Lautner Bicep Watch moment was presented solely for our benefit. Jacob wanted to annoy Edward with his hotness. I bought it.

3. Bella finally accepts Edward’s proposal. Were we cheering because we want them together…or because we wanted Edward to stop proposing?

4. Jacob uses a double entendre! In what could become the most talked about tent scenesince Brokeback Mountain, Jacob has to spend a night holding Bella to keep her from freezing — as Edward watches. “Let’s face it, I am hotter than you,” Jacob says. (This will likely be fans’ favorite Lautner line. I, however, am more partial to “I kissed Bella, and she broke her hand punching my face,” delivered dryly to Charlie.)

5. Bella asks Jacob to kiss her. It wasn’t as tortuous a turn-on as the slow lean bedroom kiss Bella shared with Edward in the first film, but this one definitely felt longer. And you wanted it to continue. Lautner is made to play action heroes who make time for a little romance. His first love scene will have the rewind numbers of Nipplegate.

6. Edward takes a bite out of someone. It feels wrong to say who, even with the spoiler alert issued above. So let’s just discuss how cool vampire deaths were in this movie. No blood. No dust. Just body parts breaking off like ice.

7. The credits roll. Honestly, this is the first Twilight film I would recommend to someone who hasn’t read the books.

“I’ve only acted like the characters the producers or directors wanted me to play. Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem. If I don’t love something anymore I stop doing it. I don’t love acting anymore so I’ve stopped doing it.”

Amanda Bynes continues in her Twitter profile,  “I know 24 is a young age to retire but you heard it here first I’ve #retired.”

The past 24 hours for John Travolta and wife Kelley Preston have been a roller coaster of events. As we wrote yesterday, John Travolta’s dogs were killed at a Bangor, Maine airport as the dogs were walking into the tarmac area to greet John.

And literally within 24 hours of the news about John Travolta’s dogs being killed, we are now getting news that John Travolta’s wife, Kelley Preston, is pregnant. The big discussion around Kelley Preston being pregnant is that she is 47 years old. So is Kelley Preston too old to have a baby? I say heck no! If Kelley Preston is healthy, vibrant, and understands the complications and takes precautions (which I’m she will), then I don’t see where it’s a big deal at all. And I’m sure Kelley Preston’s doctors feel the exact same way.

I think it’s a great thing that John Travolta and Kelley Preston are working on bringing new life and joy into their lives after losing their 16 year old son, Jett, to a seizure in 2009.

John Travolta’s Dogs Killed

And now back to John! On top of losing his son Jett in 2009 – as I just mentioned – John Travolta is now having to deal with the loss of his dogs. Apparently the dogs were being brought out to the tarmac to meet John Travolta, when a luggage truck on the tarmac hit and killed John Travolta’s dogs.

So when John Travolta was getting off the plane, expecting to greet his dogs and head out to their cottage in Maine, he was greeted with the unfortunate news about his dogs.

Like I said, I think it’s a great thing that John Travolta and Kelley Preston are working on bringing a new life, and new joy into their lives. Maybe they can get all of this behind them and start enjoying their family along with their daughter!

I might also add that it’s refreshing to see a Hollywood couple stick together like John Travolta and Kelley Preston have. I think they, as a family and as a couple, set a great example for the rest of Hollywood that seems to think it’s cool to get married and then within weeks or months, get a divorce!

John Travolta, still morning the loss of his son tragically in the Bahamas over a year ago, is now facing another tragic loss in his family. This time, John Travolta has lost his 2 dogs.

In a statement released to the Bangor Daily News, the city of Bangor said, “An airport service pickup truck was approaching the airplane to service the airplane and did not see the dogs. Unfortunately, the dogs were struck and killed. The airport is investigating the accident. Out of respect for the family’s privacy the city will make no further comment.”

The newspaper also reported that the family was headed to their home in Islesboro, Maine, and that it was not known whether the actor had piloted the plane.

This is now the 2nd tragic loss that John Travolta has experienced in less than 2 years.  In January 2009, the Travolta’s 16-year-old son, Jett, died after suffering a seizure while vacationing with family in the Bahamas. Travolta and Preston have one other child.

The airport where the John Travolta’s dogs were killed made the following statement:

“The airport takes safety very seriously,” Hupp said Monday afternoon. “Many flights come and go without incidents. Clearly, this is an unfortunate accident. Our deepest sympathies are with the family.”

Rima Fakih Miss Michigan 2010 – Miss USA Winner 2010-. Rima Fakih, Miss Michigan 2010, became the winner of Miss USA 2010. One thing is for sure, when I posted the Miley Cyrus lap dance video article earlier today, it apparently opened up a whole can of worms when it comes to people’s opinions over whether this is appropriate conduct by Miley Cyrus or not.

I took the angle of the fact that my daughter became a huge fan of Miley Cyrus when she was Hannah Montana. But now, I’m not so sure how I feel about my daughter still being a fan of Miley Cyrus – which in actuality, I believe she is really still a fan of Hannah Montana.

Miley is just following in the footsteps of Britney and so many others right back to Kurt Russell and Annette. Disney kids do grow up. I certainly wouldn’t hold her up as a positive example for my 17-year old, but she’s “Hollywood”. Frankly, its up to her parents to judge her behavior. The bottom line is that, this very sexualized behavior will have consequences that she may really regret many years from now.

Lena Horne Jazz Singer and Actress Dies at 92 – According to CNN, Lena Horne, Jazz singer and actress dies at 92.

She was one of the first African-Americans to sign a long-term movie contract with a major Hollywood studio when she joined MGM in 1942.

Horne’s expressive voice made her a singing star after Hollywood failed to give her roles that might have made her a big screen starlet.

Horne complained she was used as “window dressing” in white films, mostly limited to singing performances that could be easily edited out for play in southern theaters.

The light-complected Horne refused to go along with studio plans to promote her as a Latin American.

She later said she did not want to be “an imitation of a white woman.”

Her childhood was nomadic as she traveled with her actress mother, but much of her time growing up was spent in Brooklyn, New York, where she was born in 1917.

Horne began her career as a 16-year-old dancer at the Cotton Club and moved to Hollywood in the late 1930s. While she never became a major movie star, she is credited with breaking the ground for black actresses to get bigger roles in Hollywood.

Horne was remarkably candid about the underlying reason for her success.

At last count – I’ve found 40 diets that are currently promising to help us get into the tiniest bathing suits and skimpiest clothing.   They literally range form A (The Atkins Diet) to Z (The Zone Diet).

Here are just a few:

Atkins Diet,  Belly Fat Cure (Now, even fat is a disease),  Cabbage Soup Diet (Don’t see too many skinny Cabbage Patch dolls),  Eat More Weigh Less (Now, that sounds interesting),  Flexitarian Diet (Excuse me.  What is a Flexitarian?), Hallelujah Diet (Either for the Pentecostal folks, or all those Baptist Fellowships), Instinct Diet (I grew up with three brothers.  My instinct was “survival of the fittest” or do without.), Lemonade Diet (for all the little tarts), Martha’s Vineyard Diet Detox (a diet for the Kennedy’s – no doubt) …and on, and on they go… all the way to “The Zone Diet” and that is about where I “Zone” out.

Isn’t it amazing how, to promote most diets, they focus on the Barbie Doll and Ken figures, and then (as if it were an after thought) they say, “Oh! and it’s good for you, too!”  That’s because it’s all about “image” and “sensuality” and not so much about the healthiness of your life.  (Don’t let this come as a shock to you, but “sensuality” sells!)

Well, in reading my emails – which usually consists of miracle cures that will better my “sensuality” – give me 5 to 15 million USD if I help them get it out of their war torn country in which a relative of mine passed away (if I just give them certain pertinent information such as my bank account number) – or help some lonely house wife who just happens to live in my neighborhood (or Russia) – I found an email for a diet that, according to the email, “Is sweeping America.”

The Hollywood Cookie Diet (or in some areas) The Cookie Diet.

The website claims that over 4 million cookies have been eaten (probably by the “Cookie Monster”).  It purports to be “Featured in major health and lifestyle magazines”…. and, if you hurry, they will “ship it all to you for free.”

If you’ve tried other diet plans and they’ve failed to make you look like a Victoria Secret model – or – as if you just stepped out of GQ magazine, then you might want to check this one out.  Their website is:  http://hollywoodcookiedietprograms.com/index.asp?

It sounds a little far fetched to me, but if I found out that they offered Oatmeal Raisin Cookies, I might just place an order to have a bag of cookies around. (If they do, the ad might just soon say, “Over Eight Million Cookies Sold”..)

One of my daughters-in-law is expecting her first child sometime in December. (Notice that I said “sometime” in December).  As soon as we (both sets of grandparents) found out – one of the first things we wanted to know was, “Have you decided on names?”  I thought Alphonzo Swartz Jr. would have been a good name for a granddaughter, but reluctantly the expecting parents said, “No!” (Go figure!)

Well, my wife and I have three of our own (non of them named Alphonzo Swartz Jr.) … and they all have names that I don’t believe any of them are ashamed of or embarrassed to be called by.  But, where do we come up with the names we force our kids to live with (They didn’t even get a chance to fill out an application.)

In biblical times names were given that represent family and family characteristics…and were sometimes changed to reflect the personality of the individual.  Of course, the Lord changed some of the names for them.

Today, I don’t think a lot of thought goes into the choice of names for the children. Seems what’s important is that it sounds clever and “up with the times.”  What ever happened to “Bill” – “Jim” – “Mike” – “Sarah” – “Linda” – “Sue” (and I don’t mean “a boy named Sue”)?

Today’s names sound like some city in a foreign country, or a Hollywood star, or a sound that the cat makes when it coughs up a hairball.

Parents today have a library of books that suggest names, and they  can even go online to websites dedicated just to that task.  One of those websites is http://www.babynames.com/ which says that it is “Naming the world one baby at a time.”

By the way, I checked it out and nowhere could I find Alphonzo Swartz Jr.  on the lists, …nowhere.  (Go figure!)

I’m not one who subscribes to celebrity gossip, but every now and then I find a story that reinstates a sense of  “there’s hope for Hollywood” after all.  I found this story to be quite refreshing.

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott, in an effort to halt rumors that there is trouble in their marriage,  plan to renew their vows over the weekend.

The couple, seen on their show “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood” – have downplayed any talk of a split. Appearing on the “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Spelling said, “There is no divorce in our future, at all.”

McDermott and Spelling met while in Canada filming the TV movie “Mind Over Murder.” They have two children –  Liam, 3, and Stella, who turns 2 this summer.  One could only hope that they are not just doing it, “for the children” or “for the show”… but because they truly love each other.

The date the couple has chosen marks three years since they tied the knot on a private island in Fiji.  That event was attended only by the barefoot bride and groom.   Spelling says that they have invited close friends and family to an intimate gathering in the Los Angeles-area on Saturday.

Tori will release her third book in June.  The title is rumored to be, “Uncharted terriTORI.”

A fan leak of Super 8, the new JJ Abrams and Steven Speilberg collaboration, has hit the internet. Obviously.

The amateur screener looks excellent from a cell phone. I don’t understand how this is considered a leak though. The trailer is being shown before Iron Man 2. This shoddy cell phone captured preview, crisp as it is, would have been taken off YouTube by now if it was indeed a leak.

Steven Spielberg and JJ Abrams along with Hollywood are excellent advertisers and know how to hype a movie and hype it properly to the rest of the country.

I highly doubt this was not leaked on purpose. Happy movie going this summer everyone!

Over the past year we watched as both houses of the United States congress worked feverishly to “pass” a program that would make  “promises” of Healthcare Reform come to fruition.  Even with the majority of Americans rejecting  this particular package* of  Healthcare Reform the bill was passed and signed into law by the president.  *I’m not arguing that point. Most Americans agree that some reform is necessary,)

Personally,  I am totally against government intrusion into the private sector of business.  I do believe that some sort of reform needs to be initiated within healthcare, but not so much in medical care.  I would have preferred the industry police itself, but I am not naive enough to believe that that would ever happen…. that is, within the insurance industry of healthcare.  That would be the proverbial “shooting yourself in the foot” to them.

A Case In Point: Over the years  John (named changed to protect identity) has  needed a certain medication to sustain life.  Unfortunately, this medication is not cheap.  Since 1996 he has taken this type of medication either in tablet form or injection.  During that time he has been hospitalized approximately 16 times because of his body’s rejection of some of these medications.  On two occasions his family was informed that he would not make it out of the hospital (but the Good Lord knew better).  It has now come to the point of needing the medication to stay alive.

The current medication prescribed for John is to be given twice a day, meaning 60 doses a month.   His insurance company informed him that they will cover only 30 doses per month (15 days worth) at his current copay.  (The cost to John for the other 30 doses being over three thousand dollars a month – There is no generic and this is the only medication left for treatment.)  While in the hospital the doctor informed the insurance company that John must have the 60 total doses per month.  She emphasized that going without one single dose would mean further irreversible damage leading to death.  The insurance company still declined the extra doses.

To aggravate things more the insurance company faxed a letter to the doctor stating that at her request they would consider approving the extra doses.  The letter stated, “Before initiating a request for additional coverage, please note the following information:  Additional quantity can be obtained through additional member co-payment.  The plan is not denying access to additional quantity.” John informed his doctor that the additional copay was not a problem.  She informed the insurance company.

His doctor faxed the completed form back to the insurance company after answering all the questions and supplying the pertinent information.  The insurance company denied the request again.  Their reasoning: John was not suffering from cancer and he was not pregnant. “The information provided by your prescriber indicates that your use of this drug does not meet the requirements for additional coverage.”

Two other doctors besides the hospital doctor have informed the insurance company that, “if they did not allow John the other 30 prescribed doses (even with the additional copay), he (John) would be required to re-enter the hospital every month for the last 15 days of each month to be placed on IV therapy.”  Amazingly the insurance company did not balk about that.  Seems that they would rather cover approximately 25 thousand a month over 3 thousand a month!  Makes a lot of sense to this writer!

As of this writing, John has two days of medication left.  If his situation is not resolved, he is to call his specialist handling his treatment, and the specialist will then call the hospital to have him admitted for IV therapy.  We will keep you updated as to John’s case.

This is not a “rare” case.  This happens all to frequently.  The horror stories of dealing with insurance companies would make a superb Hollywood thriller.  Jason and Freddie would both seem like childhood bad dreams compared to the horrors of “The Insurance Company” (Roll eeerrrriiieee music!)

The type of reformation that the healthcare industry needs should require that doctors, not insurance companies, dictate what a patient needs.  I realize that insurance companies are in the business of making money…as we all are.  But most doctors are not in the business of treating their patients without a need for treatment.  I’m sure there are some unscrupulous doctors out there who are in it for the money… and there are some that one could consider as “drug pushers”… But, if there is going to be “True Healthcare Reform” then let “pruning” be a part of the package.

Leonardo DiCaprio Girlfriend, DiCaprio and Bar Refaeli Marriage?

Rumors are spreading on the web about Leonardo DeCaprio and his girlfriend Bar Rafaeli getting married. These rumors were spawned from a simple siting of the two at a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game.

However, when Bar Rafaeli has been questioned about the marriage rumors with Leonardo DeCaprio she has responded with absolutely not.

Bar recently denied the marriage rumors and her ring finger was bare at the game, so we’re not sure what the big deal is.

Bar told the press, “I’m 24 and there’s still time [for marriage]. I’m in no hurry. I’m happy with where I am.”

To be quite honest, I didn’t even know that Leonardo DiCaprio even had a girlfriend, let alone there were rumors about them getting married. I mean really… who has the time to worry about such things as Leonardo DiCaprio and girlfriend getting married rumors!

Rumors are that Brody Jenner and Avril Lavigne are dating and that their relationship is apparently moving to the next level as they have reportedly received matching tattoos.

Bobby Brown Died – Is Bobby Brown Really Dead?

Wow, so tonight is apparently reserved for some pretty outlandish rumors getting started on the web. First we had the rumor of Justin Bieber kissing a boy, now there are rumors popping up that Bobby Brown died.

C’mon people, someone out there reading this must know the real deal on Bobby Brown.

Is Bobby Brown really dead?

You would think that there would already be confirmed reports from somewhere, just like when Michael Jackson died. But as it is now, it’s just sporadic rumors on the web.

According to the LongIslandPress.com, a chunk of the rumors seem to be stemming from Twitter, where users are reporting he succumbed to lung cancer at the age of 41 (his actual age, so there’s an iota of plausibility there).

Bobby Brown has not really been in the news lately and his name has really flown below the radar the past couple of years. I guess that’s why nobody really knows right now if the “Bobby Brown died” rumors are true or just that… rumors.

Ron Burkle Donates $50,000 To Celebrity Apprentice

During last night’s Celebrity Apprentice, team project manager Holly Robinson Peete was working the phones trying to raise enough money to beat out the opposition.

With only seconds to spare in the competition, Ron Burkle decided to step in, step up, and make a massive donation in the amount of $50,000 to Holly Robinson Peete’s team.

The team was in fund raising mode to create a fitness class for 24 Hour Fitness, and the $50,000 donation allowed Peete’s team to raise over $200,000.

Ron Burkle is a self made billionaire who owns a firm called the Yucaipa group of Companies. Mr. Burkle is often the central focus of many gossip columns and political donation scandal discussions.

Regardless of the negative publicity that seems to follow Ron Burkle, there is no question about his business tenacity and ability to generate revenue.

So the $50,000 donation from Ron Burkle certainly was nothing for the billionaire to contribute, but it made all the difference in the world to the Celebrity Apprentice team that was trying to raise the money.
