Next-generation users are seeking exceptional online user experiences, and tapping online instruction manuals and user guides are the norm for young entrepreneurs. Because of the exposure to technology in the classroom and the resulting development of more technical mindsets, it is no surprise these young consumers can practically figure out how to use products and devices on their own. But in an era where technology is continually advancing, the need for technical information is still on the forefront for new users. Check these trends for instruction manuals that will attract the next generation of users:

Self-Sufficiency in Technical Information

As the way people consume information evolves, so does the level and style of communication. Users no longer want a hard copy of words on paper. They are seeking self-sufficiency in everything they do, and online user guides and technical manuals are the mainstay for getting the information they are looking for. Young consumers may attempt to figure things out first, but at the point they need to search for a solution, they expect to find it quickly and easily.

Visual Experiences For The Answers

Next-generation audiences are seeking visual experiences for their answers. They can often look at a diagram or drawing and see what they need to do instead of reading through pages of text to find an answer. Whether they are searching for part assembly instructions, software configurations, or operations manuals, a visual is generally easier for them to comprehend. By searching online documentation young minds can expect a visual experience for the solutions to their problems.

Mobile, Easy, and Error Free Research

The ability to search and peruse online documentation, user guides, and technical manuals on any device at any time is crucial to younger generations. Their research experience must be mobile, easy to reach, and error free. They are using mobile devices for every task, and successful user guides will be responsive and viewable on any platform. There is no margin for error in holding the interest of these Generation Y and Millennial (usually born after the 1980s) generations.

The future of instruction manuals and user guides is more powerful than ever, but next generation users will drive the high demand for data that is easy to find and navigate.

With the decision from the founder of the company Michael Dell along with private equity firm Silver Lake Partners to buyout the company shares not being received too well by many. Also after their stunt to make Dell a private company, being criticized by many, the Institutional Shareholders Services (ISS), a proxy firm which particularly advises public company shareholders on proxy voting and corporate governance has changed the course of events. They have expressed publicly that the decision of Micheal Dell to buyout the shares for a total of $24.4 billion is in interest for the partners employees and the shareholders of Dell.

With opposition coming publicly on the Dell buyout from the share holders that account to 18 percent of Dell’s proxy, and other strong oppositions from large shareholders like Yacktman Asset Management and the activist investor Carl Icahn, Michael Dell’s plan has gone into dark clouds. But, with the surprising endorsement and public expression of opinion of ISS has taken aback Carl Icahn and other leading shareholders by surprise and shock. The public share holder’s opinion is of utmost importance in this buyout, so this approval and positive feedback from ISS can sway the votes and support of the shareholders towards the decision of Michael Dell favoring the Dell buyout.

According to what the IIS has mentioned, this buyout will be favorable to the shareholders against this slow moving market and put them in safer stands with this buyout. With such words coming out from a proxy firm specialized in shareholder’s interests, it will be interesting to see how the opposition reacts to this and makes their moves to ensure that the support of shareholders stays with them. Even with the support of IIS, the Dell buyout is not getting into the pockets of the founder Michael Dell so easily, that is for sure. The advancement of this buyout deal will be interesting to have an eye on.

Dell shares (NASDAQ:DELL) are down nearly 8% in pre market trading this morning to second-quarter sales rising less than 1 percent to $15.7 billion, as reported yesterday. Analysts estimates put Dell’s revenue at $15.8.

Because of the missed forecast, and because Dell’s outlook shows slowing consumer spending, Reuters is reporting that Dell has revised it’s fiscal 2012 guidance and expects revenue to growth between 1%-5% from the previous range of 5%-9%. For the third quarter of 2012, it expects to see revenue roughly flat relative to the second quarter of 2011.

According to The Economic Times, Dell said growth in its enterprise solutions and services business, as well as the performance of India and China, drove the company’s profitability in the second quarter.

“We continue to see great momentum in the high growth areas of our business, which is a direct reflection of the discipline and strong execution our global Dell team is applying to help solve real-world challenges for our customers,” Dell Chairman and CEO Michael Dell said.

There are 2 websites right now that have reported the Dell Streak’s release date of being August 13th. The problem, however, is that the two sites (here and here) do not mention references to their sources from which they got the release date.

So can anyone confirm, or deny, the Dell Streak release date of August 13th?

The Dell Streak will be available on AT&T and would cost $299.99 with a new two-year AT&T contract. Without contract, the tablet would cost $549.99 and it would be unlocked.

Dell’s first tablet device called the Dell Streak as announced publicly last February.

However, last week Dell made the mistake by updating their website with the new Dell Streak along with some previously unknown information.

The Dell Streak is a data phone and tablet device hybrid. It will have a 5 inch display touch screen, will be running exclusively on AT&T’s 3G network – as opposed to previous rumors of running on T-Mobile’s network – and has a retail price of $549.

However, just like AT&T did – and continues to do – with Apple’s iPhone, they will do likewise with the Dell Streak.

The subsidized price of the Dell Streak will be $299 if you sign a new service agreement with AT&T.

I’ve been building this site for about 3 straight days and now it’s time for me to start writing.

I’m so excited about covering the tablet market, and I truly believe with all my heart that tablets will change everything we know about computing.

Look at the iPad – it is already just as successful as Apple’s iMac computers, what was their cornerstone product prior to the iPhone. And don’t forget, the iPad was only released a few months ago (April 3rd).

And look at Google’s Android OS.

This thing is spreading like wildfire and literally allowing the mobile / data phone as we know it to be merged with the tablet, making things like tablet mobile phones (look at the Dell Streak for example).

I maintain another at where I write about technology and other current event topics.

But I felt a need to create a new blog that targets exclusively the tablet market and the news, trends, and future that these devices hold.

So I’m looking forward to jumping right in and start covering the tablet market – hope you enjoy the ride!

1) Dell Streak will get Android 2.2 (Froyo) OS later this year (2010)

2) The Streak will be released initially with Android 1.6 with an over the air update to 2.2

3) The Dell Streak, according to Dell, is “the most successful pre-sale Dell hasever offered.”

4) The price tag for the Dell Streak is $500

5) The Dell Streak will run exclusively on AT&T’s 3G data network (sorry T-Mobile)

And let’s see…

Oh yeah, one other point to make.

AT&T already has an exclusive 3G data client. You may have heard of them… Apple’s iPad!

Seems that AT&T’s 3G network has a pretty good reputation and future ahead of itself.

Ready for a 5 inch touch screen mobile phone!

The widely discussed Dell Streak is going to be available for purchase tomorrow on the Dell website.

Signups for pre-orders have stopped, but you can move right on up to purchasing the Dell Streak tomorrow.

The Dell Streak is a combination between a tablet (think the iPad), and an Android OS powered phone (think HTC EVO 4G). This phone is massive with a 5 inch touch display screen and like I mentioned, powered by the Android mobile OS.

Here’s what the Dell website was showing earlier today:

Our Dell Streak pre-sale sign-up opportunity is no longer available. Please visit www.dell.com/streak tomorrow to purchase your Dell Streak.

However, if you visit the Dell site now that message is no longer there.

Is it possible they were just testing their message?

Or can we really expect to see the Dell Streak available tomorrow?

The Dell Streak will be serviced by AT&T.[source BGR]

As much as I love to talk about the Android powered phones, and all the fascinating ways that Android 2.1, and soon to be Android 2.2, are being implemented, there is absolutely no debate over which mobile device is dominating the market.

The Apple iPhone is absolutely killing all other competitors from a profit and revenue standpoint.

The chart below from BusinessInsider.com shows how Apple’s iPhone is dominating the market place in regards to profits and revenues. Since the first generation iPhone launched on June 29th, 2007, all of the other mobile phone and data handset revenues have been in a decline – that is, until around 2009 when Google Android stepped onto the scene.

It didn’t take Google long to realize the explosive profits that the iPhone was generating was the reflection of an untapped mobile phone market – actually, an untapped mobile phone revolution.

Here’s the iPhone revenue chart since 2007:

Well it seems like the guys at AndroidSpin has got their hands on a leaked image for T-Mobile’s handset line up for the remainder of the year. Now it is possible that this could be fake, but since the Motorola Charm was just announced and it’s listed in the line up it just might not be. According to the image a Dell netbook should be coming out between July & August. And the HTC Vanguard, which is due out in September, their is not a lot of information about the handset. There’s also an update going out to the Mytouch 3G,CLIQ & CLIQXT in August.

The new MacBook Pro

Just when you thought you could actually catch your breath for a minute and recover from all of the Apple news, Steve Jobs just keeps the Apple machine running in overdrive.

Today (Tuesday, April 13th), Apple announced the release of their new MacBook Pro netbook computer.

This version of the MacBook Pro is faster than ever and has powerful, high def graphics to boot!

MacBook Pro Speed

The focus of Apple’s release of the new MacBook Pro is clearly centered around speed.

The 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro netbooks come standard with Intel’s Core i5 and i7 processors (respectively).

Previously, all of the MacBook Pro netbooks utilized Intel’s Core 2 Duo processor.

The 15-inch and 17-inch models will also use Apple’s graphics switching technology, which allows the computer to automatically toggle between the Nvidia GeForce GT 330M and Intel’s HD Graphics processors.

CNET provides a great breakdown on pricing:

CNThe 13-inch MacBook Pro comes with 4GB memory and Nvidia’s GeForce 320M graphics processor. There are two configurations, one with a 2.4GHz processor and 250GB hard drive for $1,199, and the other with a 2.66GHz processor and a 320GB hard drive for $1,499.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro is available in three models: a 2.4GHz Intel Core i5 with the Nvidia GeForce GT 330M and 320GB hard drive for $1,799; a 2.53GHz Intel Core i5 with the Nvidia GeForce GT 330M and 500GB hard drive for $1,999; and one with a 2.66GHz Intel Core i7, Nvidia GeForce GT 330M, and 500GB hard drive at $2,199.

The new 17-inch MacBook Pro features a 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5, Nvidia GeForce GT 330M, and 500GB hard drive for $2,299.

Time to get a MacBook Pro

So what do you think about Apple’s new MacBook Pro netbook?

There is no doubt that the elegant, more sophisticated computers on the market are coming directly from Apple.

One of the main points of friction for most people is, however, the pricing of the MacBook pros.

Microsoft seems to have captured more of the masses in regards to their products and pricing. Compare a $600 Dell laptop with a MacBook Pro starting at 3 times that amount.

When it comes to Twitter, it’s not easy being popular! Having more followers on Twitter means more opportunity to network, communicate, promote, and connect to others that can either help you, or that you can help.

Twitter is also a great way to market and promote your products and services. Don’t believe me, just ask Dell Computers who has generated over $7 million dollars selling used laptops and computers via Twitter.

But getting more followers is no easy task! Especially because, just like someone can easily follow you, they can just as easily and quickly “un” follow you as well.

Let me quickly show you 3 great ways to get more followers on Twitter!

1) Follow those who follow you!

Up until this month, I never followed any body on Twitter that I didn’t specifically seek out to follow. I thought, if I could just follow those that I want to follow, then my profile will be much more efficient.

And it was! The content streaming through my profile was very specific, highly targeted, and very informative. After all, I was only following those that I wanted to follow, even though other people were following me.

But this month I decided to try something different. I decided I was going to start following anyone who followed me just because I thought it might be a nice thing to do. Within one week of me following those who followed me, I doubled the number of followers on Twitter. Within a few weeks, I increased the number my number of followers from 600 to well over 1000!

So without question, following those who follow you is probably one of the best things you can do to increase the number of followers you have on Twitter.

2) Write Helpful, Informative Tweets

The second best way to increase the number of followers you have on Twitter is to produce helpful and informative tweets. Just like any successful blogger will tell you – the best way to increase traffic and authority is to produce content that helps others!

When you create content on Twitter that is helpful and informative, people will “retweet” your updates. This retweeting has amazing traffic and exposure implications because each time someone retweets your update, it exposes you to all of their followers who can then, with one click, follow you! With just a few people even retweeting your content, you can easily expose your content, and your Twitter profile, to thousands of people.

3) Retweet Other People’s Updates

Just like the retweeting of your content can dramatically increase traffic and exposure to your Twitter profile, you’ll help other people likewise by retweeting their content.

People will always remember those who help them out, or who find their information valuable. And when you retweet other people’s content, it’s like giving them a “thumbs up” on the web to all of your followers.

This is more a strategy of Twitter politics, but it certainly works when it comes to increasing the number of followers to your Twitter profile.

And the more you retweet other people’s content, the more of an impression you’re making to your followers, which ultimately increased your brand and reputation on Twitter – which in turn, dramatically increases the number of followers you get on Twitter!

… see how this works?

Hardly a couple of weeks have gone by since Google’s Chrome OS was rolled out in all its glory, when Dell jumps into the fray with an easy way to load the beta operating system on its nifty Mini 10v netbook. Dell gurus have slightly modified Google’s Chrome OS to work specifically on the company’s tiny, yet versatile Mini 10v.

All you need to do is download the ChromiumOS image file, load it on an 8GB USB thumb drive, and then you’re off and installing it onto this little laptop with no hacking required. Of course, the Chrome OS isn’t going to be completely stable, since it’s not due to be completely finished until year from now, but this would be a magnificent way to get a feel for this upcoming juggernaut from Google… read more

So you thought Dell with just all about selling PC’s – well, think again!

Dell blogger Lionel Menchaca announced on Friday that, “Today, I get to put the all the rumors to rest—Dell confirmed that we’re entering the smartphone business. These initial Mini 3 smartphones will roll out first in China and Brazil through partnerships with two of the world’s largest mobile operators: China Mobile and Claro.”

The Future of Mobile Phones

I see this move by Dell, traditionally a PC manufacturer, as a sign that the future of computing is wrapped up on mobile devices.

And even moreso, the new Dell 3 mini will be run on the Android 2.0 operating system.

Menchaca goes on to say “The other thing can confirm is that the Mini 3 smartphones run Google’s Android platform. I’m pumped like a lot of others out there about where Android is heading. With Android, we’re designing these initial Mini 3 phones to provide power, flexibility and customization to both our customers and to carriers around the world.”

It’s what every business wants really. No matter what business, product, or service you sell, the most important thing you can do is generate new customers.

However, in today’s economy, with incomes and unemployment at all time lows, your business needs a strong brand in order to make customers comfortable enough to do business with you.

So how do you grow your business in today’s tough economy?

Whether you’re a small business in a small town, or an international firm, your brand is your reputation. And what people are saying about you, and how customers perceive you – whether it’s right, wrong, or otherwise – will most certainly determine your bottom line.

Using The Web To Build Your Brand

According to a new survey from Lightspeed Research, “The top characteristic US consumers want from brands they like is to improve their knowledge—and the least desirable one is for a brand to “only be visible in store.”

What this means is, customers in the US want an open line of communication with their favorite brands. They (the US customer) wants a two way conversation taking place, or at least the opportunity for conversation to take, with their favorite brands.

And I would go as far as to say that the US consumer would be willing to change brands – buy from a different company than they normal would – if a competing brand had an open door of communication, and their previous brand did not.

How do you create a two way conversation with your customer?

There are 3 easy ways for any organization to leverage the web, and open the doors of communication with their customers and prospects.

1) Start a blog

Having a business blog is, in my opinion, the best starting place for any business to build their online presence, and open the door to that two way conversation customers desire.

A blog for your business is also the best way to educate your customers and prospects about your products and services. Generating high quality blog posts by using photos, videos, and “how to” articles, will show your customer base that your truly in leader in your market place.

Plus, having a business blog, and writing strategically for the web, will dramatically increase your presence and exposure in Google search results. This will allow you to quickly connect to high quality customers that are actively searching for what you offer.

Read more about effective blogging for online exposure in our SEO Tips For WordPress Blogging.

2) Facebook Fan Page

A Facebook Fan Page is a critical component to leveraging the power of the web for building your brand.

Your Facebook Fan Page can be about your entire business, or any of your specialty products and services.

First, a Facebook Fan Page allows people to become “fans” of your page and meets the criteria of “permission based marketing”.

Permission based marketing is a huge opportunity for you because fans of your page are basically saying that “I want to hear from you!”

It’s not very often that your business has an opportunity to communicate, on a continual basis, with a growing audience of people that actually want to hear from you.

A Facebook Fan Page achieves that!

And with your Facebook Fan Page, the two way conversation is wide open. You’ll know instantly when someone makes a comment on your page, and you’re able to respond to those comments in real time.

Plus, your conversations are viewable by all of the other fans of your Facebook Fan Page. This allows your reputation (your brand) to build indirectly with a growing audience of prospects!

3) Twitter

Creating a Twitter profile is the third way that your business can build your brand and reputation by leverage the web.

Twitter is not a social network!

So unlike a Facebook Fan Page where you are able to easily communicate back and forth with people, Twitter is not built for that.

Twitter allows you, however, to build an audience of followers who want to receive broadcast messages from you.

This again meets the criteria of “permission based marketing” because your followers on Twitter have voluntarily followed you.

But on Twitter, your followers are typically just wanting to receive your information, not necessarily get into long discussions.

This helps you build your brand and reputation because the people following you on Twitter are able to be kept informed, and educated about your business.

Dell is a perfect example of how Twitter can be used by business.

Dell has a bargain outlet on Twitter where they promote second hand, recycled, or otherwise bottom inventory type computers and products.

Using Twitter as a broadcast messaging service has allowed Dell to gain over 1.3 million followers on Twitter, and do over $2 million in sales via Twitter.

Check out Dell’s outlet on Twitter > @DellOutlet

Graphs & A Slide Show

Here are a couple of graphs to illustrate how the US consumer thinks regarding brand and reputation:

The Take A Way

In today’s world, customers are able to get information faster than ever before via the web. And with the economy tight, people are online looking for the absolute best deals they can find.

One of the most important ways that US consumers find great deals is by referencing their favorite brands on the Internet.

And when the US consumer is online, they want to be able to communicate directly with their brands. If they can’t do that, then the brand could possibly lose that customer.

Today, it’s possible for business of any size, and from any location, to build a strong brand via the web with tools like blogging, Facebook Fan Pages, and Twitter.

China is the world’s most populated country with 1.3 BILLION (that’s b, b, BILLION) people, and certainly every business understands the windfall profits associated with infiltrating China.

But is it possible that somehow Google has paid off the government to ban, or otherwise legislate, Apple from its borders?

Maybe, maybe not, but it just doesn’t make sense to me how the iPhone, the world’s most popular mobile device, is not selling legitimately in China, the world’s most populated country, yet the Dell Mini 3i running on Google’s Android OS is thriving with open arms!

hmmm…..

China Mobile is the world’s biggest phone carrier – that’s right, the world’s biggest – and it current distributes the Dell Mini-3i phone in China.

Now I don’t do too well with Chinese, but it that’s your cup of tea you can read the tech.163.com (which has an impressive PR8) news release here.

The Mini 3i features a 3.5-inch touchscreen with 360×640 resolution (iPhone: 3.5-inch screen with 320×480 resolution, Palm Pre: 3.1-inch screen with 320×480 resolution), a 3.2MP camera, Bluetooth, a 950mAh battery, a mini USB port and a microSD card slot. There is no physical keyboard and no Wifi.

Even though there is no wifi, the phone supports 2G on the Open Mobile System, China’s mobile’s proprietary infrastructure, which apparently is a quasi version of our 3G infrasructure.

Here’s the pics – enjoy:
