Why A Blog Is More Valuable Than Twitter & Facebook

There is so much hype around Twitter and Facebook!

And rightly so.  These sites are generating massive numbers in monthly traffic growth, and Facebook alone is, in my opinion, going to overtake both Google and Yahoo in unique visitors per month.

However you cannot forget that a blog, especially for a business, is a “must” even before Twitter and Facebook.

Wow – did I just say that blogging for a business is more valuable than Twitter and Facebook?

Absolutely!

And here’s why…

1)  Although Google is crawling and indexing Facebook and Twitter, the search results are sparse at best.  Meaning, for any given search query, there just isn’t a lot of data from Twitter and Facebook.  And especially considering that Google’s algorithm prefers a lot of content per page, Twitter, with only 140 characters, is a platform that will always struggle in Google SERPs.

2)  A blog provides both community and top search results, and it provides them fast!  With a blog, visitors can comment and even take the discussion into social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

But most importantly, with a blog you can achieve top search results in Google quickly.  By producing content that is keyword optimized, and producing a lot of it, your business can quickly dominate the entire market in Google for your specific keyword phrases.

And there is no question that the highest quality traffic comes from Google search, since this traffic was originally searching for what you offer to begin with.

So as a business, I don’t want to discourage you from building a Facebook and Twitter profile.  I want to encourage you to first build a blog and start producing content targeted to your business, products, and services.

This process will begin to bring in traffic from Google search results, and it will be high quality traffic from people who are actively searching for what you offer.

Then, as your traffic builds on your blog, start promoting your other social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

Or, directly update your Facebook and Twitter profiles each time you produce a new blog posting.  You should be writing in your blog at least once a day, and if you’re updated Twitter and Facebook, then you are more than likely already optimizing social media.
