iPad Ban in Isreal – 10 iPads Already Confiscated
If you are planning a trip to Tel Aviv, or anywhere in Israel for that matter, you better just go ahead and leave your iPad at home.
Isreal has placed a ban on all iPads coming into the country.
Already, 10 iPads have been confiscated from travelers entering Israel.
The CSMonitor is saying that the refusal of the ministry’s engineering staff to compromise on testing the device’s suitability and compliance with Israeli wireless networks is the culprit to the iPad ban in Israel.
Here’s a quote from the source,
“The iPad device sold exclusively today in the United States operates at broadcast power levels [over its WiFi modem] compatible with American standards,” according to statement published by the Monitor. “As the Israeli regulations in the area of WiFi are similar to European standards, which are different from American standards, which permit broadcasting at lower power, therefore the broadcast levels of the device prevent approving its use in Israel.”
Apple has reported that over 500,000 iPads have been sold so far in the United States and that a shortage of supply is now delaying the shipping of international iPads.
Sales in all other countries except the US have been put on hold, creating a potential spike in the price that international customers might have to pay in order to get an iPad.
This is obviously going to create a massive reselling of iPads on sites like Ebay by US based sellers trying to sell the iPad to International buyers at steep profits.
