It’s no surprise that long-time soap opera “General Hospital” leads the pack with the most 2010 Daytime Emmy Nominations. Premiering in 1963, GH has broadcast almost 50 years of daytime drama on the ABC television network. When the “Guiding Light” canceled its show on CBS in September of last year, “General Hospital” became the second longest running American soap opera. According to Wikipedia, when “As the World Turns” airs its last show later in 2010, “General Hospital” will finally take that position of honor.
In addition to the Daytime Emmy Nominations for outstanding daytime programs, the Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Agnes Nixon, creator of “One Life to Live” (42 years) and “All My Children” (40 years). She is often called the “Queen” of the modern soap opera for her length of years with the two top Daytime Dramas.
The 37th Daytime Emmy’s will air live on CBS from Las Vegas on June 27, 2010.
