Law & Order is canceled by NBC.
Earlier, we reported there was a possibility Law & Order would be continued for another season. Word just came out that NBC has axed the long running police-lawyer series. The cancellation denies producer Dick Wolf his long-held dream of surpassing “Gunsmoke” as TV’s longest-running drama.
Even though it canceled the original “Law & Order,” NBC announced a new drama in the “Law & Order” series called “LOLA” (“Law & Order:Los Angeles”). It will also renew “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” for a 12th season.
Sagging ratings and what has been called “creative fatigue” forced the abrupt ending.
Jeff Gaspin, chairman of NBC Universal Television, said the legacy of “Law & Order” creator-producer Dick Wolf “will continue to make an impact like no other series before.”
