I’ve been working on this concept of “social classifieds” ever since Facebook released their new commenting system.
Primarily, I see Facebook’s new commenting system as the perfect platform for running classifieds. This is because the postings (or comments) are ranked using the EdgeRank algorithm.
And more than anything, I wanted to help people sell items faster, more efficiently, and will less “security” issues than any other classified site currently in existence!
Basically, the comments (or postings) are actually ranked according to relevance and engagement within the Facebook graph.
The more active (likes, shares, responding comments, etc…) your posting is, the higher your posting will rank in the comment stream.
This is potentially a relevant platform for use with classified listings because the more active a posting is, the more exposure your items receive and faster they will sell – EdgeRank is sort of like a “rich get richer” algorithm.
How SMSEO Classifieds work:
Of course, you have to be logged in to Facebook regardless of whether you want to buy or sell items – the whole platform is built on Facebook.
Buyers / Shoppers: Simply click on your category of interest, and then browse through all of the listings. When you find something you are interested in, click on the person’s name, then click the “Message” in the upper right hand corner of the screen and send that person a message via Facebook.
That’s it – simple, clean, and easy to use!
Remember, SMSEO classifieds are powered by Facebook, so you have to be logged into Facebook in order to contact sellers, and also to list items for sale.
Sellers: For the seller, all you need to do is click on the category that most closely matches your item, and then type out a description of your item and post it.
Instantly, your posting will go out to all of your friends on Facebook and it will be seen by the thousands of visitors to the category here on SMSEO classifieds.
Then when someone sees your item for sale, they will simply send you a message via Facebook and you can take it from there.
Posting strategy: Remember that commenting systems present on each category are ranked using Facebook’s EdgeRank algorithm. This means you need to create a posting that people will like, want to share, want to comment on, etc…
The more engaging your posting, the higher EdgeRank score you listing will have and the higher it will rank.
No longer do you need to worry about traditional “most recently posted” ranking systems like Craigslists where there is no accountability or system in place helping the shoppers determine what’s good – and what’s garbage.
