I think Apple was much better with the physical technicalities, but Microsoft had a whole lot better business plan, and was good enough with the physical technicalities that they have had a much bigger influence. More's the pity.

Microsoft may have had the better business plan at the time, but I'm
thinking that was because Bill Gates was at the helm. With Steve Ballmar at
the head, Microsoft has virtually become the laughing stock of the tech
scene.
