Staten Island pier hit by ferry again

Staten Island pier hit by ferry again

Authorities have said that some passengers of the Staten Island Ferry, which hit the Island pier, were injured and taken to area hospitals while others were being taken care of by first-responders at the scene.  Officials say that, so far, most of the injuries appear to be minor.

It is unsure how severe the accident was or how much damage was done to the ferry when it hit about 9:25 a.m. this morning (Saturday).

In 2003, the ferry Andrew J. Barberi – with about 1,500 people aboard – slammed into a pier on the Island during evening rush hour, killing 11 passengers and injuring dozens.

The ferry runs across New York harbor between Manhattan and Staten Island.
