At some point today (Wednesday, May 26th) we can expect the BP oil spill live feed (<< click here to watch) to be cut as BP prepares their next attempt at stopping the gushing petroleum from the ocean floor.
BP executives made the announcement that the live feed will be cut during the top kill procedure, according to a press release from Rep. Ed Markey (D., Mass.)
According to WSJ.com, the press released stated that “BP informed Rep. Markey’s office that the live feed would be terminated some time early Wednesday morning, and would continue to be offline until after the attempt at the so-called “top kill” is completed.”
The Top Kill Procedure
What BP engineers are going to attempt, starting on Wednesday, is a procedure called ‘Top Kill’.
This procedure basically is equivalent to choking the oil spill to death by force feeding it heavy drilling mud and cement in an effort to plug the gush.
BP CEO Tony Hayward pegged its chances of success in this case at 60 to 70 percent.
Kent Wells, a BP senior vice president, cautioned that engineers are speeding through a planning process that would normally take months. He warned that the top kill could be delayed or scuttled if Tuesday’s pressure readings are bad, according to HuffingtonPost.com.

Top Kill or not, I think BP is stalling until hurricane season and they'll try to weasel their way out of the cleanup. Lots of people have been executed for terrorism but here we are with the major crisis and they're using mud. What's going to happen after the stop, if and when they stop it. Just look at Valdez. There's still in the ground.

There is a rubber lock gasket, put it on a length of pipe w/ a bell. And a valve on the other end make the pipe heavy, slip the bell end on the cut pipe with the valve open. Put dolls around the pipe. Then shut valve slowly if it holds put a sleeve around the pipe past dolls and pour concrete as a kicker, then shut valve.

I can understand that they would want to kill the live feed while they are working on this

I understand the schematic diagrams and the animations that we see on TV. However, all
of these diagrams assume that the pipe is vertical (normally the rizer is), however, the pipe
we see in the live feeds is HORIZONTAL. (The oil escapes vertically and its pipe is
90 degrees to it.)
Does this mean they have to cut back to a piece of pipe which is vertical and if not, how do
they turn one of the pipes through 90 degrees so that it can mate with the other? Anybody out there know?
the riser originally goes straight up to deepwater horizon, but when it sunk it took the riser down with it. It bent at the top of the blow off valve and is lying on the seabed. you sound hot
I would like to know as long as it has taken them, when haven't they tried to slide progressively smaller diameter pipes into this gaping, gushing pipe to either slow it down or cap it off. I know it's easier said than done, but something needs to be done. With all the technology that we have in this world I am sure we have the means to cap this thing off temporarily until they can find a more suitable fix. Just a thought and my 2 cents .
they did, they're able to siphon off about 2000 barrels of oil from the 5000 per day thats leaking.

I think BP sucks, they should have had this mess fixed and cleaned up long ago. What makes me mad is all the people worrying about the value of their property, who cares. What abot the thousands of animals that are dying everyday because of this mess. BP needs to get their heads out of their butts and fix this, they know how they are just trying all the cheaper ways first.
do you have any idea how hard it is to shut a well in thats at the bottom of the ocean? not to mention the temperatures, and the pressures their dealing with? and trying to find a cheaper way? nothing about this is cheap. between the well deserved fines for environmental and safety violations, not to mention the millions if not billions of dollars they're dumping into cleaning this mess up.
