HTC EVO 4G – $10 Extra for 4G Coverage Regardless
I just want to clear up a couple of Sprint’s 4G pricing data misconceptions that some people are struggling with. When you purchase the HTC EVO 4G, you will be charged an additional $10 per month for the 4G data coverage, regardless of whether or not you are located in a 4G enabled city.
Some people have been wondering about Sprint’s 4G coverage and data plan cost, and the question has been popping up frequently asking do you have to pay for 4G coverage even if you don’t live in a city that doesn’t yet have 4G?
The answer simply is yes, you will have to pay for the 4G coverage regardless – and the additional cost for that 4G coverage is $10.
Sprint’s 4G Coverage Area
Yesterday, Sprint announced that Kansas City has just come online with 4G data speed. Yet, for some reason, cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles have yet to come online with 4G speed.
It’s been perplexing to me why Sprint would bring on smaller metro areas like Kansas City before bringing on major metro areas such as San Francisco and Los Angeles….?
Anyway, just wanted to clarify the fact that Sprint is going to charge you $10 extra for the 4G coverage, whether you live in a 4G enabled city of not.

I spoke with a sprint rep who stated that the $10 charge for 4G will not apply to non-4G areas. The charge will be added once the users area has 4G.
The launch of 4G in Kansas City is because Sprint's headquarters are located their. And how can you have 4G if your center of business doesn't have it.
I beleive your remarks above are simply an attempt to take a jab at Sprint...this is america, man...if the market demands then 10 bucks is added...quit winning...
I heard somewhere (Don't quote me on this) That paying the extra 10 dollars also allows for true unlimited data usage, not the 5GB cap that they have now.

Sprint doesn't have a 5GB cap on cell phones.
Poor article, it is misleading and 5 minutes of internet research could have cleared everything up. It is a $10 Premium Data fee, not a fee for 4G and Sprint has it's HQ in Overland Park, KS which is located just southwest of KC. This article is just as bad as one done by PCMag
@ GUNNER _I've had simply everything $99 dollar plan for 2 years. I assure you the 5gb cap has been in place, as it is for all users with "older" data plans. This applies to most carriers if not all, so it's not a Sprint thing. Do a little reading online about the nightmare stories of horrific charges people have had to pay when they went over the 5gb. Having said that, I will gladly pay the $10 premium when I receive my EVO to have truly unlimited web access. I think most people would, and it's an unfair assessment to call the $10 fee a needless add-on or something to that effect.

I am pretty sure the 5GB cap you are talking about is for mobile broadband cards not for data use on your cell phone. When I picked up an Instinct back in 2008 I had to switch to the Everything Data 450 and I have gone over 5GB watching Sprint TV (Loved watching NFL Network when I couldn't be home to catch the games) without additional charges.
Now as far as the article, it is not accurate. You are not paying $10 for 4G like he states, it is a Premium Data fee. Like you I also have no issue paying it, as my plan will still be chaeper than the other large carriers.

Whatever they wanna call 'it'. Its still another FEE. I pay for crapload more minutes and data than I could even begin to use because Sprint has made using anything but 'unlimited' way too expensive.
Personally Im just waiting for the class action lawsuit over the Samsung(busted a*s pos) Moment. Broken from day ONE and they KNEW it. Sure hasnt stopped them from sellin the crap outta that piece of sh..
