TMZ is reporting that a rapper from Atlanta, Lil Marlo, was found shot to death. Everything took place late Saturday night on Interstate 285.
Atlanta police confirmed with FOX 5 that they were called to a single-vehicle accident on I-285 near the Benjamin E. Mays Drive overpass around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
Furthermore, when they got to the scene, officers found a 30-year-old driver dead inside the vehicle. TMZ is reporting that the driver was Rudolph Johnson, also known as Lil Marlo.
Officials say that Johnson was shot and was believed to be the target of the gunfire. However, they are still determining what’s going on.
They are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Anyhow, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed on Sunday that Mr. Johnson had been killed.
The shooting came amid a rash of gun violence in Atlanta in recent weeks. Following a turbulent period of protests against the police killings of Rayshard Brooks there and George Floyd in Minneapolis
Quality Control Music announced the death of Lil Marlo in a social media post. They are saying he will be remembered as a man of great talent who feared nothing.
In addition, rapper Lil Yachty, said on Instagram that he was just in the studio that day with him. He is on the same record label as Johnson.
Rudolph Simmons Johnson was born on May 1, 1990, and raised in Bowen Homes. It is one of Atlanta’s most notorious and crime-ridden housing projects, which was demolished in 2009 after a string of killings.
Lil Marlo turned to music relatively late in life, hoping to escape what he referred to as “the streets”. That is a world of guns and drug-dealing that had surrounded him as he was raised in some of Atlanta’s most neglected neighborhoods.
Johnson joined Quality Control Music in 2017 alongside rappers Migos, Lil Yachty, and his collaborator Lil Baby.
Moreover, Lil Marlo emerged in 2017 collaborating with rapper Lil Baby on “2 The Hard Way.” earlier this year. Therefore, the up-and-coming rapper released his project “1st & 3rd” featuring Future, Gucci Mane and Lil Baby.
Though not a presence on the Billboard charts, he represented a distinct strain of cult-favorite regional rapper and connector, especially in Atlanta
TMZ says that Lil Marlo is survived by a daughter and a son.
