Hurrican Alex Update – Hurricane Alex Set To Hit Mexico
(From FoxNews.com) – Well, our first hurricane of the Atlantic season has arrived. Alex is the first June hurricane since 1995 which is pretty impressive. We don’t see them very often this time of year so soon. The storm is a little over 200 miles southeast of Brownsville Texas. Winds are at 80 mph, and still strengthening. It’s moving WNW, but observations from the NHC are saying that this storm is in no hurry to make landfall! The forecast track has it pushing onshore tonight or tomorrow morning in Northeast Mexico. We’ll see rain and thunderstorms all along the Gulf from Texas up through Louisiana with heavier showers moving in later this afternoon. Up to a foot of rain could fall across parts of south Texas with isolated totals of 20 inches possible in the mountains. 2-4 inches of rain is possible up into Louisiana. We could also see isolated tornadoes through the day and night as the outer bands move across land. 3-5 foot storm surge is possible along the south Texas coast, with a water rise of 1-2 feet as far west as New Orleans.
Here’s a pretty cool view of the 3-D tropical satellite. This hurricane is huge, and takes up at least half the Gulf. Tropical storm force winds extend 200 miles from the center of the storm.
