That was a message communicated over Jetpac’s website upon acquisition by the global search giant. Jetpac is the responsible organization behind an app recommending destination on the basis of analyzing instagram photos, publicly shared.

The excitement was so conspicuous that Jetpac couldn’t wait to recall their apps from Apple’s App store and that is scheduled to be on September 15. They further affirmed their anticipation to more exciting projects that they intend to work alongside their Google colleagues.Employees of both firms will form a team in an attempt to form a detailed understanding to search results.

Google’s intention is still unknown over what to do with Jetpac’s scenic vista, popular bar and others’ finding technology. However, in agreement with Google’s priorities is a mesh-up technology that will be used in the start-up. Other than the reliance on curates, its technology is able to extract information from many photos that are available publicly. Several human activities are eliminated by these technologies. The search algorithms used by Google work at scales and speeds that are impossible for any human, with so broad an approach and web analysis.

Also customized to offer information on geographical basis are Jetpac’s 6,000 resultant city guides. This blends well with Google’s intent and zeal to become an electronic assistant at personal level. This is through Google+, Google Maps and Google Now services.
It is obvious that it is going to be an interesting future for both Jetpac and the global search giant. Since much of what Google intends to do with the app is still a speculation, a universally agreeable opinion is that they must be of the intention to up their game and especially with the consideration that the app will be off the shelves in a month. So, who has become more muscular between Jetpac and Google? A personal analysis dictates whatever your answer may be. All in all its an interesting acquisition.

Microsoft finally decided to take some of the billions of dollars in their coffers and pay a developer to build them an iPhone app.

That’s exactly what they did, and so they just launched the One Note iPhone app.

OneNote allows users to create and view notes and lists whenever you need them. Sync your notes with free Windows Live online storage and access them from virtually anywhere using your phone, PC, or almost any web browser (from iTunes).

Kudos to Microsoft for getting caught up with the times and releasing something for the iPhone.

Bad kudos on the reviews of this app.

The OneNote iPhone App currently has a rating of 2 out of 5 stars – not good.

What problems are being reported?

Let’s see:

Can’t Login: When I try to log in I get the message “Login Failed, error: 400”

Error 400 problem: A lot of people can’t log in including myself. I have verified my account but this still doesn’t help. Microsoft is a big company so just trying to get help is near impossible. Any smaller App developer has much betters lines of communication. Can’t rate this beyond 1 * until it’s fixed!

Failure to launch (v1.0): Dismal fail… For a BIG software company to release an App with an error is just blind… Error 400

Can’t Login (v1.0): WTF?

Error 400 (v1.0): Microsoft never fails to fail me! Can’t sign in

If you want more of the same, just open up the reviews on for OneNote on your iPhone in the app store — trust me, it gets ugly.

What’s up with Microsoft?

I really don’t get it – Microsoft is like the world’s largest software company with massive hoards of cash on hand.

Yet they cannot release something that doesn’t fail.

The Windows Phone 7 platform has only sold 1.5 million devices in 2 months.

The iPad has sold over 7 million devices in nearly the same time frame.

Microsoft has two main flagship products going for it – Windows OS and Office.

Neither of what are compatible to mobile devices in a way that people are getting excited about.

So what’s Microsoft going to do when it wakes up one day soon and realizes that the future of software is mobile?

I’m confused, and greatly disappointed in Microsoft who has always been my favorite software company.

Facebook Messages now on the iPhone

One thing I didn’t notice until this morning was that the new Facebook messaging platform is now available on the Facebook iPhone App.

Here’s what I saw as soon as I opened my Facebook iPhone app this morning:

Who would’ve thought that parking spaces could actually update their status via the cloud (the web)?

Apparently, this is becoming a reality and the status update that parking spots send out are either “taken” or “available”.

With parking spots possessing this new found freedom of communication, it only makes sense then that an iPhone app would be developed that can tell drivers where parking spots are available.

This is exactly what the Parker iPhone App does by Streetline.

While vacationing in Connecticut, a man watched his home get robbed on his iPhone. The iCam iPhone app allowed the man to watch the entire burglary take place.

Wow – could you imagine opening up your home security iPhone app to just to check things out, and then suddenly… to your unbelieving eyes… there’s actually a burglar breaking into your house – and you’re watching live right on your iPhone!

That’s exactly what happened to Vince Hunter, a home owner who was on vacation in Connecticut.

So out of nowhere, the $4.99 iCam iPhone App that he bought with his home security sent him a text message saying that his motion sensors are going off in his house.

And so he opened his iCam iPhone App and watched, in real time, as a burglar broke into his house through his windows.

“I check the footage, and see in real time guys in this area, and they’re kind of hunched over. They’d just broken the glass. I said holy cow, I gotta call 911,” said Hunter in an ABC News interview.

You might want to think twice before you jailbreak your iPhone. Even though jailbreaking your iPhone is now legal, Apple is making moves through patents to be able to actually kill your iPhone if it’s been jailbroken.

According to The Register, the application that Apple would like to use to kill jailbroken iPhones, and which was filed in February and published Thursday, specifically describes the identification of “hacking, jailbreaking, unlocking, or removal of a SIM card” so that measures can be taken to counter the user. Possible responses include surreptitiously activating the iPhone’s camera, geotagging the image and uploading it to a server and transmitting sensitive data to a server and then wiping it from the device.

So basically if you’re walking around with a jailbroken iPhone, Apple still perceives that as an Apple property and subject to Apple’s terms and conditions. And in the protection of all iPhone users, Apple will simply kill your jailbroken iPhone.

You’ve been warned!

TechCrunch talked with Facebook about the new Facebook Places functionality and was wondering why it’s not available to everyone yet. Basically, Facebook stated that the functionality is going to be rolled out slowly over the next day or two to make sure the Facebook servers can handle to new bandwidth load that will generated from mobile devices. This is why some people are seeing Facebook Places available just yet. Others may see the Places icon on your iPhone app, but “Check In” is not yet available because the feature hasn’t fully rolled out. So be patient, you’ll be able to check out Facebook Places, and start checking in your location and sharing with friends, soon enough.

Facebook Places is now live. This new “location based” service from Facebook allows you to “Check In” to places that you currently at, or places you’ve been.

Here’s how to get the new Facebook Places for your iPhone, iPad, or other mobile device:

For all mobile devices:

Simply point your mobile web browser to and you will see the “Facebook Share” functionality. Simply use the “Check In” function to start sharing your location.

For your iPhone, simply visit the App store > search for “Facebook” and install (or re-install) the Facebook app. This will give you to the latest Facebook iPhone App and you will see the new “Facebook Share” icon in the middle of your screen. Simply tap the “Share” icon to begin sharing your location.

For the iPad, I’m not 100% sure if there’s a Facebook Share app released yet. But iPad users can simply point their Safari browser to to begin sharing their location.

** NOTE **

Again, Facebook Places was just released last night and will slowly be rolled out to new users. Facebook needs to roll out the new application slowly due to server consumption issues. If you don’t see the “Share” functionality yet, don’t worry – it’s coming!

Some people are already saying that iPhone 5 will replace your wallet.

ComputerWorld has some information about a new hire at Apple who’s name is Benjamin Vigier. Vigier is a near field communications (NFC) expert, and has the expertise to figure out how your iPhone can actually replace your wallet, your house keys, your identity, basically everything that is central to your life.

So if this is true, are you ready to put all of your life’s eggs in one basket – that being your iPhone?

Don’t say “no” to quickly though because Apple (Steve Jobs) has a way of influencing the die hard Apple fans into buying pretty much anything they (he) releases!

Thoughts?

P.S. Oh yeah Computer World, the iPhone 5 can’t be called iWallet because that name is already taken.

What??? $1.99 to watch a video – and you (the PGA) are running ads on the iPhone app??? What’s up with that madness? So anyway, it should come as no surprise to anyone that the PGA Championship 2010 iPhone app on iTunes is getting a lot of downloads, but is getting hammered in the customer review section. So hey, PGA folk, if you are reading this then you might want to check out the iTunes customer review section – nobody appreciates having to pay for video, especially when you are already running ads on your app.

Want to deposit a check into your bank account without having to visit the bank?

There’s an app for that!

That’s right – you can now simply take a picture of the front and back of your endorsed check and deposit it directly into your account.

Oh yeah, you have to be a Chase customer using the Chase banking iPhone app.

But this is a pretty cool feature that I’m sure a lot of Chase customers are going to utilize and find VERY convenient.

Which means that other banks like Bank of America and Wachovia will probably follow suit shortly with their iPhone apps.

The app is called Quick Deposit and simply requires a picture of the front and back of an endorsed check that you snap with your iPhone built in camera, and then you can submit that image via your iPhone app. The amount is deposited directly into your account.

Chase then encourages you to destroy the physical check as soon as it clears.

You can use Quick Deposit with an iPhone 3G or higher, and the service is free for Chase customers enrolled in online banking.

Customers can make unlimited number of deposits from their iPhone with a daily deposit amount of $1000, not to exceed $3000 monthly per customer account.

“We know that people who use the iPhone want to use them for as many tasks as possible,” said spokesman Tom Kelly. Since the feature became available in mid-July “thousands and thousands” of existing Chase customers have downloaded the app, motivated in large part by the added deposit function, he said.

The other day I wanted to check out what was “hot” in the free iPhone app list in the App Store on my iPhone. Looking at the top 25 free apps I saw Finger Physics sitting in the number one position, and the iPhone App also looked cool, so I downloaded it.

That was about the end of my excitement for Finger Physics.

As soon as I opened Finger Physics, I felt like I was being marketed to at every tap of the iPhone. Not only was the marketing and presentation frustrating, but getting started an actually playing something was equally challenging.

Once the app loads, you are staring a screen filled with boxes that all look the same, and no real direction as to what will happen depending on which box you select.

Then, after clicking a box you are left staring at an egg, or a circle, that you need to guide into a certain location. After spending some time trying to figure the game out, I finally got it – I figured out how to get the egg in the basket.

So I give the Finger Physics iPhone App two thumbs down and I do not recommend you spend your time downloading, and then trying to figure out the app. Just move on…

You can download Finger Physics from iTunes here (opens iTunes).

In an effort to add a little of humor and fun to the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, someone decided to create an iPhone app that allows you to plug the gushing oil leak with your finger.

The iPhone App is called Plug the BP Oil Spill and is available in the iTunes App Store for free.

From your iPhone, simply tap the App Store app on your iPhone > search for “plug the bp oil spill” and then simply download it. It literally takes 5 seconds or less for this thing to download.

Then all you have to do is open the Plug the BP Oil Spill app, tap “Begin”, and then you’ll be able to plug the gushing oil with your finger.

Sounds like fun doesn’t it?

Click here to download Plug the BP Oil Spill iPhone App (opens iTunes)

Google just released a mobile version of YouTube (m.youtube.com) which basically makes the YouTube iPhone App obsolete.

Google did the same thing when Apple rejected the Google Voice iPhone App – Google, within a matter of a week or so, released a web based mobile version (m.google.com/voice).

So take this process one step further and Google is on track to set an entirely new precedence for mobile devices.

Google’s new mobile version of YouTube completely kills the YouTube iPhone App. The YouTube mobile version is faster, has a larger interface, has suggestive search, and is more efficient.

I know I’m not the only one who sees the writing on the wall here. Google will take this concept one step further and completely kill the iPhone App market.

After all, why get an App from Apple’s App store when you can access the mobile version from any mobile device.

And for the developers, why develop something that is exclusive to the iPhone – especially with the rising Android market of mobile devices?

Developers will most certainly follow Google’s lead here and bypass the arduous task of getting apps approved through Apple and start to develop mobile versions – accessible on any and all mobile devices.

Sorry Apple – this is a bed that you actually made for yourself.

Here’s the Youtube mobile version promo video:

Have you ever looked at your mobile phone – like your iPhone, Droid phone, HTC EVO, etc.. – and wondered, “how much money could actually be generated from this little ol’ phone?”

How about $2 billion dollars!

According to eBay’s Chief Executive John Donahoe, Ebay’s iPhone application has been downloaded over 10 million times, and the company expects $1.5 billion to $2 billion in transactions to be conducted using the mobile application this year.

Yeah, that’s both a lot of Ebay iPhone Apps being downloaded, and even more items being purchased through the iPhone.

So if you’ve ever wondered the validity of the iPhone (or any mobile phone) and it’s viability as a source of commerce, then I would say that you need to look no further than Ebay, and the Ebay iPhone App.

Donahoe said its iPhone app was responsible for $600 million in volume last year.

“The digital wallet is going to be a way that will facilitate e-commerce growth,” Donahoe said at the All Things Digital conference on Wednesday.

And from the looks of things, we’ll see the “digital wallet” (aka, the iPhone and all other mobile phones) take on a larger role in conducting commerce on the fly.

iPad News – 7000 iPad Apps in Apple’s App Store (And Growing)

Even though there is an iPad supply shortage at the moment that is directly affecting iPad sales, there is no shortage of iPad apps hitting Apple’s App Store. As of Thursday night, Apple’s App Store has exceed 7,000 iPad apps that are available for download. Some of the iPad apps are free, and some not so much. But there is no doubt that Apple’s App Store is on a very aggressive growth scale for iPad apps.

Apple has now exceeded adding 7,000 iPad apps in less than 7 weeks, averaging approximately 1,000 apps per week which were uploaded by developers and approved by Apple since the iPad’s launch on April 3rd, according to Pad Gadget.

iPhone App Growth vs iPad App Growth

Let’s compare the iPad app’s growth rate to the iPhone apps growth rate in the same time period. The iPhone app store was officially opened on July 11th, 2008 and within approximately 90 days (3 months), there were 3,000 apps available.

Comparing the iPhone app growth rate to the iPad app growth rate, it has only taken about half that time (approximately 1.5 months) for Apple’s app store to have the equivalent amount (3,000) of apps for the iPad. So basically, iPad apps are being created twice as fast as iPhone apps were in the same comparative time frame.

10,000 iPad Apps

Based on the current rate of iPad apps being accepted into Apple’s app store, the iPad should hit the 10,000 app level sometime next month (June 2010).

Now all the world needs is for Apple to fix their iPad supply problems so that everyone can start using all of these awesome iPad apps!

Today Twitter announced that there is a new, and now an official, Twitter iPhone App. I guess all the previous Twitter iPhone apps that have been released weren’t official? I mean just because Twitter releases an iPhone App, is it really an “official” Twitter iPhone app?

Anyway, I digress…

So if you are like one of the billions of average Twitter users out there, like me, then more than likely you won’t be too overly excited about the new “official” Twitter iPhone App.

I use Twitter more to research and extract data than I do tweeting about the $2.99 Chocolate Mocha I just had from Mc Donald’s.

iPhone App: The Twiddish

Imagine this: You’re out on a date with that special person. You take them to a fine restaurant. You order a meal that turns out to be a work of art and costs about the same as a Rembrandt original. Just before you begin to savor the flavor of what’s on the plate, your date pulls out their iPhone, snaps a picture of the meal, and then twitters her description of the meal.

Well, amongst the multitude of iPhone apps that are available today, there is now an application that allows you to report on your restaurant experience.

The new food twitting application is called “The Twiddish” which allows you to document and share your dining out experience. The Twiddish iPhone app is a social network dedicated to the collection of photographs of restaurant meals.

“The Twiddish iPhone app is an unconventional restaurant review that gets down to the bare essentials—a photo and 140 characters or less. The system gives new meaning to the adage, ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.'”

But, be careful. One day, while dining at a nice restaurant, my wife complained because her pork meal was not cooked completely. Within a few minutes the chef came out and, instead of apologizing, he began to berate our intelligence for daring to question his cooking credentials (after all, he did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express).

The point is, your chef may take it personal and think that you are criticizing his “cooking credentials” or… it might be considered rude and tasteless to be twittering while the other customers are trying to enjoy their meal. After all, there are some who hate having their meal disrupted while you are talking on your phone, especially those of us who are trying to eat and use the cell at the same time.

Homeless-Care iPhone Apps

Feel as if you need a “protege” as Carole Lombard did with William Powell in the 1936 movie, “My Man Godfrey”

Irene Bullock (Lombard’s character) took in Godfrey (William Powell’s character) to serve as the family butler. Godfrey, a millionaire, had laid aside the robes of riches to “get away from it all.” He took on the life style of the homeless, living in a dump and scrounging for necessities. That’s where Irene (In competition with her sister) met Godfrey and offered him the job as butler, and took him under her wings as her protege.

Well, with the help of the iPhone fad, you can now play the part of Irene Bullock. The iHobo App brings a new perspective on the homeless and living on the street. Housing a homeless man on your iPhone, this application gives you the option of taking care of him for three days.

In doing so, he may then survive unfortunate street conditions, attaining the food and shelter he needs. However, if he is ignored, he may make the wrong decisions which would result in unthinkable circumstances.

In the movie, “My Man Godfrey”- “set in the depths of the Depression, a party game brings dizzy socialite Irene Bullock to the city dump where she meets Godfrey, a derelict, and ends by hiring him as family butler. He finds the Bullocks to be the epitome of idle rich, and nutty as the proverbial fruitcake. Soon, the dramatizing Irene is in love with her ‘protege’…who feels strongly that a romance between servant and employer is out of place, regardless of that servant’s mysterious past…” Written by Rod Crawford <puffinus@u.washington.edu>

You might not fall in love with your homeless protege, but this iHobo App definitely gives you something to think about when it comes to the homeless and provides a different approach in how you could help.

The free app was created (pro bono) by Publicis London to raise awareness of Depaul UK, a charity devoted to youth homelessness in the UK.
