UPDATE: Here’s how to enable email notifications for your Facebook Fan page as of April 2013. The article below is now obsolete :)
The Facebook forums are full of people who are begging to receive email notifications when someone adds a comment on their Facebook Fan Page. And it’s unbelievable to me that Facebook hasn’t added this feature. But oh well… since Facebook doesn’t do it – and we all need – we are left to figuring out a way to make it happen on our own!
So here’s how to get email notifications of comments added to your Facebook Fan Page:
All you need to do is “like” each of your Facebook Fan Page udpates. This will add a small “thumbs up” image to each of your updates. And when other people visit your Facebook Fan Page, they will actually see that you (your personal Facebook profile) liked that update.
Now, since you’ve hit “like”, when anyone adds a comment to your updates on your Facebook Fan Page, you will receive an email notification of that comment!
Just make sure that in your Notifications Settings, you’ve clicked both options under Link.
You do this by first going to your account settings (hold your mouse over “Settings” in the top right of your screen while in Facebook) > click “Account Settings” > click “Notifications” > scroll down to “Links” > put a check mark in both boxes under “Links” > scroll to the bottom and hit save.
The downside to this – the fans of your Facebook Fan Page are smart and will notice a trend, more than likely, of you “like’ing” all of your updates. This may be a turn off to them, and could cause you to lose credibility. I’m not saying it will happen, it’s just something to keep in mind before you go and start “like’ing” all of your updates.
Reply / Comment Back via Email Reply
Facebook has a new feature that now allows you to comment back to people’s comments by simply replying to the email notification you received.
You may have noticed this in some of the most recent notification emails you’ve received from Facebook:
New Feature: Reply to this email to comment on this link.
That means, all you need to do to reply to someone who commented on your Facebook Fan Page (or any comment for that matter), is just reply right in your email, just like you’d reply to any other email – and that reply will post on your Facebook Fan Page right underneath the comment you are replying to!
Again, it’s unfortunately that Facebook hasn’t implemented this feature for Facebook Fan Pages. It’s very important that we get a notification when someone has commented on our Fan Pages – that’s how we can actually engage in a conversation and be timely in communicating with customers and prospects.
So I hope this article helps! It’s the best, and only solution – until Facebook adds this feature into the Facebook Fan Page platform itself.

When I comment on a fan page as an administrator, my personal profile does not show up. It's as if the fan page is commenting. Is there a way to change that and will that cause me the same issues if I "like" a post?
Hi – thanks for commenting! If you are the admin on your Facebook Fan Page, whenever you post something, it will always show as the fan page posting – there is no way to get your update to show as your personal Facebook profile other than removing yourself as an admin.
However, when you remove yourself as an admin, you immediately remove the broadcast capabilities to all of your fans on your page.
Once you "like" a post, you'll receive an email notification whenever someone comments below your "like" (or thumbs up) – it doesn't matter if you are an admin on a page or not.
Thanks so much for comment!
I followed the instructions in your article, but it's not working for me. I am the admin, and I have "liked" my post both as the admin, AND through my personal profile. I have it set up for both text messaging AND email, and I'm not being notified either through my admin email address or my personal profile email. Yes, I have the Notifications turned on for both of the Links check boxes.
I have known how to get notifications on my fan page for quite some time. However, I noticed I am no longer recieving the notification that someone else has clicked "like" on a post or pic on my fan page when I use to get a notification. I have checked every setting I can think of… my setting to recieving notification when someone likes my post/pic is checked. I am only getting notifications if someone comments now when I use to get notifications of comments and likes after I clicked the like option on each post and pic. Can you recommend anything to fix this?
Hi Tiffany – let me know if my previous comment makes sense / helps.
Oh… I am not recieving the notificaiton that someone clicked "liked" on my fan page post or pic when I am actually signed in to FB on my laptop… thought this might help. BTW, your other advice is very useful!
Hi Tiffany – I think that you have to be the one who "likes" something in order for you to receive a notification. So whoever "like'ed" the comment will be the one who actually receives the notification.
Thanks so much for commenting!
Hi
I've created a YouTube video talking about this, and also list the 2 action points we should all take in order to get Facebook to get their act together on this.

The bigger issue with updates for me is knowing when someone has posted a new message to my pages' walls. I keep missing messages for the non-profit I administer a page for. Is there any work around covering this yet?
This is my issue too KB Ward. I want notifications for comments on my wall, not comments on my posts.
Hi, I have already click " LIKE " on my all post and photos, but the problem is I can not receive a notification when someone who doesn't friend with me comment on it.
I Just receive notifications if he/she was my friend.
Can you solve this problem?
thank you
Surprising that a SEO expert makes this recommendation. It is kind of spammy.
This option no longer works. :(
Try MonitorMyPage at . It automatically monitors your Facebook fan pages or Facebook business pages and looks for changes…new wall posts, comments, links, photos, etc. Then, MonitorMyPage emails the changes to you.
Here’s a free app that sends email notifications.
I’m the co-founder of WeTeachFacebook, and I was in the same boat as everyone else who has left a comment on Robert’s article. I was hoping that Facebook would give me the ability to receive a notification when a fan commented on my page, but I couldn’t wait any longer.
I thought Facebook would add this function at some point, but after waiting for four months (and after trying four different apps)….I decided it would be worth investing the time and money into creating the “Fan Page Monitor”:
The Fan Page Monitor is not free, but knowing when a fan makes a new comment on my page (without having to check it every fifteen minutes) is worth it.
**We offer a free 7 day trial, so you can see for yourself, it is worth the monthly subscription fee for you get reliable notifications sent to your inbox when a fan makes a comment on your page.
Hey KB, that was the same issue I was having. The ‘like’ workaround doesn’t work for new posts, and those are very important. Not replying to a fan on our page seems rude to that fan, but checking our page over and over was costing us too much time.
I tried several of the fan page notification systems available, but I was not happy with the frequency and reliability of anything I tried.
I felt like receiving notifications was something I had to have for my business (whether Facebook decided to allow them or not), so I decided to create my own notification system – The Fan Page Monitor.
It’s been very helpful for my fan page, and I now offer it to other fan page admins for a nominal fee. You can find out more, and even sign up for a free seven day trial at
