Verizon iPhone – Not A Question of “If”, Just “When”

Ok, so I believe that we can stop the discussions that circulate around the question of “will Verizon sell the iPhone?”

I think it is pretty well established that both Verizon and Apple are in agreement, and both companies are working on the necessary technology to bring the iPhone to Verizon.

Apple has already stated that they are working on the iPhone development updates needed so the iPhone can run efficiently on the Verizon network.

And Verizon has already stated that they are ready and willing to sell the iPhone, excited about the prospect, and also making the necessary updates to facilitate the iPhone.

When will Verizon sell the iPhone?

So now the only question that remains is when will Verizon sell the iPhone?

I’ve already made my prediction that the Verizon iPhone announcement will happen on June 22nd.

It is believed to be the case that Apple has reserved the Yerba Center in San Francisco for June 22nd. This is common practice for Apple when they have a major product announcement to make. And more specifically, wen they have an iPhone announcement to make.

But the question is when will Verizon finally bring the iPhone to the stores?

Some people believe that it won’t be until later in the year, perhaps in the Fall.

So what do you think?

Are you in agreement with me that there is no longer a question about “if” Verizon sells the iPhone, that it is now just a matter of “when”?

And if so, when do you predict we’ll see the iPhone in the Verizon stores?

"Apple has already stated that they are working on the iPhone development updates needed so the iPhone can run efficiently on the Verizon network."

I missed that one. Please provide a link!

The iPhone will one day work on Verizon, but that will be the day Apple unlocks the iPhone to all carriers. Apple will not switch from AT&T to Verizon or just give the iPhone to both of them. They will unlock it to other smaller carriers as well. Any carrier that has a compatible network will be included. It might be a while, but I believe it will happen eventually.

Apple has never stated that they were working on an IPhone that will run on Verizon's network. Furthermore, AT&T just announced that they are blocking all employee vacations for the month of June, probably because of the upcoming new IPhone announcement in June. We will be seeing a Verizon IPhone one day, but it ain't happening this year.

Huh. Who new America only had two phone companies: at&t and Verizon. Somebody should tell T-mobile, Sprint, U.S. Cellular, Cellular One, Virgin Mobile, etc. that they don't exist.

Apple might be designing an iPhone for a CDMA network, but that will be for Asian markets; its impractical to make a Verizon iPhone when they will be switching to a LTE network in a year. So my guess is that we will see a Verizon iPhone in 2011.

First of all Apple is not working with Verizon to obtain the Iphone. Second do you not think it would be in the best interest of AT&T to hand over a large sum of cash to prevent this even if it were true?

@Eliseo

Actually, the way that Verizon is upgrading to LTE is to add it on top of their current CDMA/EVDO network. So even if Apple was going to do an LTE iPhone for Verizon in 2011, it would still need to be CDMA/EVDO capable. The voice protocol specification for LTE isn't even completed yet so you will be doing CDMA voice on Verizon for a while even if you are lucky enough to live in an area with 4G data.

If Apple is going to release an iPhone for Verizon, they are going to have to produce a different iPhone that is not on the GSM standards.

Is this considered journalism? What happened to spell check these days..this site spits out junk and more junk every day.

hi tt222, I appreciate you using the phrase "journalism" with my blog – I consider that a compliment.

To be even remotely productive with yourself, could you provide the specific correction you see that I need to make to the article.

And despite the "junk" I put out each day, you must be visiting my site daily to know that junk is actually being spit out each day – so for that, as well, I thank you.

I seriously doubt that Apple is designing a CDMA iPhone for Verizon. It is far better for Apple to keep on doing what they are doing: waiting for the technology to improve.

A CDMA iPhone would get nothing but complaints because it can't multitask between the mobile phone and data. You have to ring off on a caller in order to look up a restaurant for the two of you to meet at.

Im pretty sure you have no idea what you are talking about. I have the Motorola Droid and I can multitask in the way that you are stating. So there is no reason the iPhone wouldn't be able to.
