The creator of Android, Andy Rubin, has designed and developed a new phone, called the “Essential Phone”, which costs about $699, and has some of the most unique and tantalizing features. The Essential Phone has edge-to-edge display, a uniquely designed front facing camera, and a highly thin bezel design.

Essential phone is based on the idea of minimalism. The phone doesn’t even have a logo on it.

Essential processor is Qualcomm 835, with 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage.

Essential Android phone is made up of titanium and ceramic.

Essential phone will come with a slew of accessories which you’ll have to buy apart from the phone. The company wants to make an ecosystem around the new phone. Essential will come with a magnetic connector and wireless data transfer feature. The company will also ship a 360-degree camera that could get be put on the top of the phone. This camera would cost an extra 50 bucks.

You can also buy a charging dock for Essential.

Essential does not have any headphone jack, which means Andy Rubin at least agrees with Apple when it comes to headphone jacks.

Andy Rubin will soon reveal the Essential Android phone to the world. There is no confirmed release data of Essential phone yet, but experts think that it’d be in July.

Huawei and LG have released Android watches in the mega event Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. While both the companies have come up with extraordinary devices, Huawei’s Android Watch seems to have stolen the show. LG’s Urbane Android Wear is rolled out in two versions. The first one is the most basic version of Android Wear which has the same features as given in the Google’s Android Wear. The advanced version of LG’s Android Watch has a 4G chip and high-end features. You can make calls and send messages from it without even linking it to your smartphone.

Huawei Android Watch Features

Huawei’s Android watch is made out of Sapphire Glass. The best thing about this app is its perfect design and watch-link features. Android watches before this were awkward in shapes. People wanted something they could wear like a normal watch, having features of a smart watch. Huawei’s Android watch has 1.4-inch 400 x 400 OLED display. It is supporting 286 pixels per inch, a smart bezels ration and size.

LG Urbane Android Wear Features

On the other hand, LG’s Urbane watch has a feature which no other watch has ever supportive: LTE. LG Urbane watch is powered by LG’s own OS. The company says that it was not comfortable with Google’s OS for wearable devices as the company wants to craft the user experience completely according to the users’ needs. Google OS posed a lot of limitations.

LG watch is preloaded with health features like tracking during hiking, running, swimming and workouts. Its LTE feature will allow you to receive calls, make calls, send messages, talk in a walkie-talkie- style on the go, and much more. LG Urbane has also NFC feature using which you can pay through your watch on the shops.

AT&T already has one of the world’s strongest, and fastest, 4G networks with their HSPA+ network. And their lineup of 4G smartphones is impressive as well with the HTC Inspire 4G, Motorola Atrix 4G, Samsung Infuse 4G, and the USBConnect Force 4G. But as it stands now, when HSPA+ is not available, the speeds fall back to whatever is available, typically the 3G connection.

But with AT&T bringing on the LTE network for 4G coverage, this will make them the first mobile phone company to provide both the LTE and HSPA+ network coverage. The combination of the LTE and HSPA+ 4G network will give 4G users a smoother, more consistent experience and allowing users a wider range of 4G coverage with their mobile devices.

The announcement was made yesterday by AT&T senior vice president of mobility and consumer markets Pete Ritcher. And it was announced that the initial launch will cover 5 cities.

5 Cities To Get AT&T LTE 4G Coverage:

Atlanta

Chicago

Dallas

Houston

San Antonio

According to Richter, “We are the only carrier with LTE and HSPA+… and when you don’t have LTE you will fall back to faster speeds than our competitors.”

Verizon is aggressively expanding their 4G LTE coverage across the United States. Obviously, Verizon (nor AT&T for that matter) are going to sit back and let Sprint dominate the 4G mobile internet market. Having faster internet connectivity means more data will be consumed via mobile devices faster. The more data being consumed, the more money mobile phone carriers can make. Especially since mobile phone carriers are going away from the unlimited data models – the days of all you can eat data are becoming a thing of the past.

So with the economies of scale leaning toward limited data, and data packages based on how much data you consume, expanding a faster mobile internet makes sense for Verizon and all other mobile phone carriers.

Below is a list of new cities and airports that Verizon just brought online with 4G LTE. You can see a complete list of Verizon 4G LTE cities here (and I’ve updated it with these new listings already)

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Today, Verizon Wireless unveiled an additional 59 markets that will benefit from the world’s first large-scale 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network by the end of this year. These newly named areas, added to the 39 initial markets launched in December 2010 and 49 markets announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, mean that consumers and businesses in at least 147 U.S. cities will have access to the fastest, most advanced 4G mobile network in America.

David Small, chief technical officer for Verizon Wireless, said, “Aggressively expanding this powerful network beyond major metro areas reflects the reality that the 4G LTE ecosystem is growing quickly. Our commitment to reach deep into medium-sized cities and smaller communities by the end of 2011 means the power of 4G LTE can be harnessed and provide advanced services to law enforcement, healthcare workers, educators, and other professionals, as well as to individual consumers, sooner than many thought possible. So whether you spend time in New York and San Francisco, or Harrisburg, Penn., Saginaw/Bay City, Mich., Huntsville, Ala. and Las Cruces, New Mexico, you can connect to the most advanced 4G network in the country.”

AT&T announced today that it will buy T-Mobile from Deutche Telekom for $39 billion in both cash and stock. This is one of the biggest mergers in the United States since the beginning of the financial crisis. Not will this deal dramatically boost AT&T’s 4G expansion efforts, but it will add an additional 46.5 million customers to the telecom giant. On top of the custom base and the 4G, T-Mobile was one of the leading telecoms to carry Android smartphones, which will now help contribute directly to AT&T’s bottom line.

Verizon announced the iPhone today at a press conference in New York City, and Verizon’s stock price has been falling ever since.

Sure, back in 2007 the iPhone was a revolutionary product and smartphone concept.

Just like the iPad is a today – the iPad has basically created a new paradigm in personal computing.

But the iPhone is… well… old technology in my opinion – and Verizon’s stock price (NYSE:VZ) might just confirm that theory.

Verizon shares have been dropping since they opened this morning (see chart below), and investors were well aware of the press conference today to announce the iPhone.

Now that the press conference is over, Verizon shares are down over 2% on the NYSE.

Why is that?

I believe investors see the iPhone as old technology.

That might sound harsh to some people, I know, but look at the reality of the smartphone marketplace.

We now have 4G speed – 3G is so… yesterday, right?

And we have LTE technology.

And not to mention all of the 4G speed Android smartphones.

C’mon man… you have to admit that the iPhone has been making it’s money on technology that is now 3 years old.

So I’m really thinking that the iPhone is no longer as impressive to investors as it was three years ago – in fact, Verizon’s stock price confirms that.

Technology moves fast, and even Apple isn’t exempt from having to keep up with the latest technology.

Here’s Verizon’s stock price movement with the impact of today’s iPhone announcement:

The number of people accessing the web through mobile devices is exploding, and not just here in the United States. Countries like China, Japan, and India an seeing explosive growth in mobile web consumption. Here […]

In my opinion, and the opinion of top CEO’s like Google’s Eric Schmidt, the future of the web is mobile. The number of people accessing the web through mobile devices is exploding, and not just here in the United States. Countries like China, Japan, and India an seeing explosive growth in mobile web consumption.

Here are 3 tell tale signs that the mobile web is in fact the web of the future:

1) iPad and tablet growth

I don’t really know about the sales forecast for tablets other than the iPad, like Android tablets. But I do know the outlook for the iPad.

Back in April, the iPad was announced. And on that day an entirely new paradigm in mobile computing.

Colin McGranahan, retail analyst at Bernstein Research has said “by any account, the iPad is a runaway success of unprecedented proportion.” He expects future sales of the iPad to be in the range of 4.5 million per quarter, which is unprecedented for any one particular consumer electronic item.

2) Verizon’s new 4G LTE Network

This might be hard for you to believe, but Verizon has just released their 4G LTE network to 38 cities across the United States.

And when I say “just launched”, I mean it was like yesterday at a news conference where the Verizon 4G network was announced.

Although the Sprint 4G network has expanding rapidly throughout the US, the markets that Sprint has been targeting have been smaller, secondary markets.

Of course, with the exception now of the Sprint 4G in New York City.

The point here is that 4G is a relatively new phenomenon in the world of mobile broadband data access.

4G will redefine the way people access the internet through their mobile device, thus allowing for more robust applications to be made available.

And the more you become reliant upon your mobile devices, the less you’ll find yourself using your laptop and regular computers.

3) Opera mobile browser has 150 million users

Opera just celebrated celebrated 150 million users this week.

It was only back in April that the Opera mobile browser hit 100 million users – so that’s 50 million users in about 8 months.

Now consider the fact that Opera mobile web browser – Opera 4.0 – was first released in 2000. Now that’s over 10 years ago.

So in more than 10 years, it took Opera’s mobile web browser to grow to 100 million users. And then less than one year to grow 50 million new users.

Again, Opera is a tell tale sign that the age of the mobile web is upon us.

What do you think?

What are your thoughts about the future of the mobile web?

The world of 4G mobile internet speed is about to expand.

Verizon Wireless will be holding a press conference tomorrow, December 1st, to announce their 4G LTE mobile broadband network. The Verizon 4G network is expected to launch, on day 1, in 38 cities throughout the U (see the list of 38 cities below).

According to Mashable, LTE is important for a number of reasons, but most of all, because it has the potential to become the first true global standard in wireless. By contrast, Sprint has embraced WiMAX as its 4G standard, which is mainly prevalent in parts of Asia. Regardless, both technologies are exceptionally fast compared to today’s mobile broadband standards — and let’s face it, that’s really the most important factor.

Several sites online will be covering the Verizon 4G LTE news conference, including Mashable.

Here’s the list of 38 cities that are scheduled to get Verizon’s 4G LTE network:

Last night during the Giants vs. Eagles game, I saw for the first time (I think it was the first time anyway…) Verizon’s commercial for their upcoming 4G LTE network (you can see it below). Of course, Verizon is promoting it as lightning fast with a huge budget behind their marketing efforts. But the truth is, Verizon’s 4G LTE network is substantially slower than what’s currently available. T-Mobile’s 4G network can reach download speeds of 21 Mbps and will double to 42 Mbps next year. Verizon 4G LTE network, according to Verizon themselves, will only do 5 Mbps to 12 Mbps. I mean heck, even AT&T’s 4G network is expected to be clocking at least 21 Mbps.

I’ve written before about Sprint’s 4G network coming to New York City. And we even covered the news when Sprint 4G was being tested in New York City back in August. Well today, the rumors and small snippets of news comes to an end. Sprint has made their official announcement that their 4G network has finally arrived in New York City.

New York City is a huge market for Sprint’s 4G network to cover due to the population, data devices, and wide spread reach that people in New York have regarding telling other people about Sprint’s 4G network.

The question now is, when will Verizon start flexing their 4G network muscles – and AT&T as well – and start taking a chunk out of Sprint’s aggressive expansion of their 4G network throughout the Unites States.

Sprint 4G Now In 61 markets throughout the United States

Here’s the announcement made by Sprint via their community platform back on November 1st:

Starting today, November 1, 2010 – Sprint 4G – the next generation in wireless service – is available to customers in New York City, Hartford, New Haven, New Brunswick, Trenton and Tampa. With Sprint 4G, wireless customers can experience mobile downloads, video chat capabilities and turbo-charged Web browsing.

Video Series

For a behind-the-scene look into how Sprint got all five boroughs of New York City and parts of New Jersey and Long Island ready for its 4G network, please visit our three-part video series, “Wiring up 4G in NYC.”

The latest installment takes a look at How Sprint plans on making 4G work in some of NYC’s most crowded and popular spots, including crowded stadiums. How coverage and capacity supports high-usage applications like video chat, video streaming and or sending pictures out from the stadium.

A press conference is scheduled today at an Embassy Suites in W. Va. where Senator Jay Rockefeller, Governor Joe Manchin, and Verizon’s senior vice president and CTO Tony Melone are all scheduled to be in attendance.

One of the hottest topics in the mobile internet and smartphone data arena is Sprint’s 4G coverage areas. Say what you will about Sprint, but they have up to this point been the leader in providing 4G coverage in cities throughout the United States.

I was just checking out the Sprint / Clear 4G coverage map and noticed that Texas currently has more 4G coverage metro areas than other state in the US. Texas has 12 cities that are currently covered under Sprint’s 4G cloud. The next closest is Washington state which has 9 cities with Sprint’s 4G coverage cloud.

Here’s the 12 cities in Texas that have Sprint 4G coverage:

Corpus Christi, Texas

San Antonio, Texas

Houston, Texas

Austin, Texas

Killeen, Texas

Waco, Texas

Midland/Odessa, Texas

Abilene, Texas

Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas

Lubbock, Texas

Witchita Falls, Texas

Amarillo, Texas

The Sprint / Clear 4G map does not show any cities scheduled to receive 4G coverage in the coming year (2011).

And here’s the 9 cities in Washington state that are showing Sprint / Clear 4G coverage:

Bellingham, Washington

Everett, Washington

Kitsap, Washington

Seattle, Washington

Tacoma, Washington

Yakima, Washington

Richland, Washington

Tri-Cities, Washington

Pasco, Washington

What cities are wanting to see Sprint / Clear 4G coverage in?

I sent out a call to anyone and everyone who has a 4G enabled phone to test their 4G download speed and post the results. Actually, it was originally a call out to people with, what was then, the new HTC EVO 4G. But I guess people with just any 4G phone have been responding.

Jay posted results where he claims that his 4G phone clocked a 10.45Mbps down and 0.95Mbps up in Fort Worth, Texas – that is without a doubt the fastest 4G speed I’ve seen so far.

So how about you?

Do you have a 4G enabled smartphone? If so, point your mobile web browser to speedtest.net > get the app > then test your download and upload speed on your 4G smartphone.

Then come back here and post your results – or post them at our SMSEO Facebook Page.

I now feel bad (sort of…) about the article I wrote previously about how Sprint’s 4G coverage map sucked. The truth is, it does…

Well thanks to Clear, the company behind the towers and technology of Sprint’s 4G coverage, there is a much more comprehensive map for us to follow.

Check out the Clear / Sprint 4G coverage map here.

What I like best about the map is that it shows future coverage areas. Cities like New York City, Tampa, and Miami are all slated to get 4G coverage soon, according to the map.

And we know that Sprint 4G in New York City is already being tested.

So what do you think about Clear’s 4G map compared to Sprint’s?

Even though I’ve been of the opinion that Verizon and AT&T could easily catch up to Sprint’s 4G coverage area, I’m starting to think that Sprint is doing a great job of positioning themselves for the 4G battle that lays ahead. 55 markets, to include New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, puts Sprint in a pretty good position in the 4G coverage market.

So what do you think about Sprint’s 4G coverage and expansion?

Now that we have the iPhone 4 antenna drama seemingly behind us, it’s time to start focusing on the next iteration of Apple’s iPhone – the iPhone 5. Tentative release dates for the iPhone 5 is July 2011, and this release could be coming directly from Verizon. What’s great about the next version of the iPhone is that it may no longer be restricted to the AT&T. Verizon is already testing their CDMA network for both the iPhone. The next version of the iPhone will more than likely be called iPhone 5. Unless, of course, we get an iPhone 4G and an iPhone 4GS first. The most popular feature that people would be looking for on the iPhone 5 would be a 4G wireless connection. Although Sprint has been aggressively pursuing the 4G market, I don’t think it will take long for Verizon to trump Sprint in their expansion efforts, which would then allow a 4G enabled iPhone to dominate the mobile phone market.

Thoughts?

This is odd because the only 4 cities in California that officially have Sprint’s 4G network are Merced, Visalia, Modesto, and Stockton (see here). And of course, the Sprint 4G coverage in San Francisco that has been coming online over the past month or so. But 4G in San Jose? That’s quite a long ways from San Francisco for 4G coverage to be picked up. What do you think, is Sprint expanding into San Jose covertly?
